Are you the original owner? If so perhaps a lemon law in your state may apply in your situation.

Xciting 500 / Re: Shad Backrest - anyone seen one?
« on: August 28, 2011, 03:51:22 PM »
Yes, yes, and yes. Like I said it is almost identical to the Shad. It is an older version of the TB80 and is solid. I had it on my 500 for a while then the wife decided that she wanted a top box so I removed it. If you are interested in buying a used one then PM me.

I have a Givi model TB80 which is almost identical to the Shad. Almost looks like Shad copied it. I'm not using it but what would you like to know?

Xciting 500 / Re: Givi 450 case installation- need some help please

The normal procedure to install the Givi rack is to remove the seat and seat box first. You have better access to the top bolts but it is still a PITA. When I did mine I think I could only move the bolt one flat at a time. It was fun to get the bolts started back in too. Perhaps removing the lower bolts may help.

Pick up my new 2009 500 from the dealer next week.  He told me the brakes were not linked.  Is he wrong?  Can't wait to get on and ride!
Your dealer is correct. They are not linked on my 2009. Left is rear only and right is both fronts.

My speedo started jumping up and down a while back. Adjusting the speed sensor gap fixed it.

The manual for mine states the max weight capacity at 150 kg (330 lbs). That being said my wife and I are right at that limit and the scoot has no problem going down the road with us on board.

« on: April 02, 2010, 04:17:04 PM »
Thanks for all the nice comments. I am 65 years old and haven't riden since 1958 and 1959. Back then I rode a SEARS moped and an old scooter/cycle that I dodn't even remember the name of. But the SEARS moped was $400 a lot for kid back then with a just a paper route. I love the 500 and will post pictures as requested. I have a general question though. Has anyone found a reliable way to attach a GPS to the 500. I have looked at a few sites but the method to attach doesn't appear to all that good. Thanks in advance
An alternative to a hard mount is this Givi GPS Bag. Works for me.

Sounds just like me. I went 36 years without riding. Funny when I took the motorcycle safety course most of the students were middle aged or old farts. And speaking of that course you should consider taking it as it gets rid of those old nasty habits that we learned when we were young and foolish.

K&N KN-147. Nice hex nut on the end for easy removal.

Xciting 500 / Re: Side Stand safety switch
« on: February 14, 2010, 03:56:23 PM »
The side stand switch has three wires going to it. One is a common ground which looks like it is green. A second wire (Y/G) goes to the ignition module and it looks like a ground is applied to the module when the stand is in the up condition. A third wire (Y/B) goes to the instrument cluster side stand LED. The ground is removed from the ignition module and applied to the third wire to light the LED in the stand down position. So it looks like you need to apply the ground to the ignition module to simulate a 'stand up' condition. At least that's the way it looks from the wiring diagram. I would double check the switch operation just to make sure.

I use a KN-147 oil filter on mine. Fits perfect and that hex nut on the end is very handy. I believe this is the recommended oil filter for the 500's.
