People s200 / Bad Petrol, Carb cleaning.
« on: September 09, 2014, 06:22:57 AM »
Hi all scoots;

Have an issue that I'm trying to sort out.

I "mothballed" my People S 200 about a year ago and cannot get it going now.  Little history really quick....It was a daily driver for years, but switched over to an auto for safety reasons.

Anyway, I put in new gas and it will start but as soon as you give a little throttle, it will cut out.  The battery, oil level, lights, tranny fluid are all good.
The tank was NOT completely empty, so I'm thinking to drain it out and put brand new petrol in.  Others have stated to do that along with a carb cleaning.

Has anyone done that carb cleaning or can anyone suggest the issue that is causing the scoot from running? TIA, Steve

Hi Steve;

Thanks for the reply.  Should one clean all interior brake parts with cleaner, like the lining, shoes, and cam?

Looks like from the service manual for the S200, I'll have to remove some of the frame cover to access bolts for the muffler assembly.  Is that what you did?  Thanks.

I'm sure most of us have had that annoying rear drum brake squeal upon stopping.  But I'd like to find a solution, if one even does exist.  My S200 only has 1200 miles on it, so I'm pretty sure nothing is worn or out or sorts like the shoes or lining.

Does anyone have a fix for this, I don't mind servicing the entire back of the bike if I have to.  TIA.

People s200 / Tool for Rear Shock Adjustment

Hi all;

Need to adjust the rear shocks and the manual states making the changes via a tool.  Anyone know what this "tool" is or if there ad hoc piece that can be used to adjust the rear coil shocks?

TIA

Steve;

I ride my S200 to work and use a multitude layers of security.

1.) Lock the handlebars.
2.) Use a disc lock.
3.) Self installed an alarm from Gorilla, about ~$85 on Amazon.
4.) Wrap the back wheel with a heavy duty cable and lock to a pole in the parking lot.

Maybe a bit on overkill, but at least would-be thieves will give it a look an say forget it.

Rob,

Excellent, I've just reached 1000 miles on mine.  Do you have any tidbits or major issues at certain mileages you care to share?  I run my scoot about 20 miles daily to and from work, 5 days a week.  Not to mention the 60 miles or so on the weekends.

When did you perform any "suggested" warranty changes?

I bought a used S200 and was able to get a document from Kymco USA stating me as a new owner and which dealer was my preferred service dealer.  Their fax number is 864-327-4745.  Also called the number posted on here to get a rep to email the file so I could fax it back to them.

General Discussion / Re: links to service manuals...

I got my agility manual from Scribld website, (think thats how you spell it), sign up for free andyou can download it. Dont have link, just search on the Scribld site, I got it maybe 3 month ago.

Yep that Scribd site is good for getting the service manuals.  Here is the link (Kymco People S 50 125 200) to get service repair guides for the People S 50/125/200.  You can use your facebook account or register with Scribd to log in and grab the manual.  It's about ~43 MB.

Renge;

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I've seen posts where they say don't go by the manual.  This makes sense, as the manual states to R/R with 200ml of gear oil and then make sure to check that the level is at or near the brim or the fill bolt...WRONG. :-[
OUCH that's a difference of close to 12 OUNCES.

People s200 / Transmission Level
« on: June 04, 2011, 04:06:38 AM »
Hi all;

Just wondering about what "should" be the correct level of gear oil.

I checked the fill bolt and saw it was below the BRIM, so I added a bit of 80w-90 gear oil.
Have read that it is NOT good to overfill as one can blow a main seal.  So I opened the fill bolt to let the gear oil
drain.
However it drains MORE if scooter is parked on the center stand, AND leaning back on the rear tire.

SO...my question is:

Should I let it drain to BRIM when parked on CENTER stand toward the FRONT tire OR let it drain when parked leaning
on the BACK tire?

Hi All;

Got a couple of quick ??'s.

-Can the "standard" two (2) year Kymco warranty be transferred to a new owner.  Bought a used S200, and there should be about 4 months left, IF it can in fact be transferred.

-Has anyone prior pulled the plug to check for emissions and gap?  Have a quick "how-to"?

Thanks in advance, Steve
