Agility 50 / Re: Basic service

Hi, I'm new to this Forum, I know nothing about scooters and I have a rather basic question:

I have a Kymco Agility 50cc that I bought new 9 years ago and drive during summers on a remote island in Croatia.  So far 7120km.  I have not done any maintenance at all, I just take out the battery and empty the carburator when storing it for the winter.  I've had to buy a few new batteries. But now it is not running well: it is weak in the upphills and the ride is "jerky".  Unfortunately I often have to ride it with a passenger.  My question is: if I take it to the "big city" what maintenance should I ask for that could address the problems I described?  Many thanks!

I assume you have at least done oil changes?

What I would at least recommend to check: Airfilter. Transmission oil. Variator belt and weights bits, if carburated engine check that carburator sits tightly and there are no air leaks between carb and intake manifold and check valve clearances.

General Discussion / Re: anxiety after 30 days not riding

After every winter yes I'm pretty nervous when riding first time. Very stiff, hypervigilant and scooter feels to behave oddly. Need to consciously relax myself and get to rhytm.

Agility 50 / Re: Used Agility 50. Will start and then die within 3 seconds

It might help the starter if you try kickstarting couple of times. Might just be little stiff and starter does not engage properly. Starter gears migh be worn down too.

Agility 50 / Re: Will not stay running longer than 5-10 seconds…

I'll start by saying I'm relatively green on the mechanical side of things. Outside of growing up with a master mechanic as a father who ran his own oil business, I don't have much experience with engines and the like. I can change my own oil, change a tire, replace a fuel pump, and derestricted my Agility 50.

I haven't started or run the scooter for over a year  :-[ but left a nearly empty tank in it last summer. It's been sitting in my climate-controlled garage otherwise. I replenished the fuel and tried to give it a go. The battery seemed to be operating, as my gauges and blinkers worked. As I tried the electric start button, it would try to start up, but never fully start. I charged the battery up for a bit and tried again, thinking maybe it was low. It eventually turned over, and I attempted to give it a little gas to get it running, but it would not stay running. After charging the battery for 7 hours, I tried again with no luck. I took the battery in to be tested at BatteriesPlus, who indicated the battery is at about 70%. So again, I returned and tried to start it up, this time it started up right away and as I gave it some gas, it seemed it was going to stay running. But alas, it died within 5-10 seconds. A few notes:

  • I've checked the two fuses near the battery, and those seem to be fine
  • I've also attempted to start it up with a jumper pack attached, which doesn't seem to help or change much
  • I've pushed it while starting it and gave it some gas, which seems to help it want to turn over, but doesn't make it stay running
  • When I attempt to start it with the kick start, it does the same thing. It did start up once, but immediately died.

Wondering if maybe the carburetor needs to be cleaned? Or it has some old fuel in the line that needs to be cleaned out? Or I'm completely off and this bad boy needs to head to the shop. Any information or guidance is extremely appreciated!  ;D

Does it get fuel? Is vacuum line from intake to fuel petcock intact? You can check that by detaching fuel line from carburator, and vacuum line from intake manifold. Suck the vacuum line, there should not be air leak, and fuel should start flowing from the fuel line. Is carburator attached tightly to manifold. It should be.

Agility 50 / Re: Agility 50 big problems

My first post here, Finnish Kymco owner too.

Your problem is that valve clearance is way too small. It should be 0,08 NOT 0,03. Probably as engine warms up your valves will not shut fully, and engine dies.
