I actually have no idea how much fuel was in the bike (or what it was).  When I fit the battery I'm hoping that the petrol gauge will work.

What was the driver for the question?

Thanks for the advice. I definitely want to sell it and want to sell it "running" to get the best price that I can.   The bike was running fine when I last left it other than an old battery.   Let's hope it starts!

Downtown 300 / Getting Downtown 300 going after 4 years!
« on: April 14, 2020, 03:55:23 PM »
So, my bike has been sitting in my parking space for over 4 years without moving (I've been using a car).

I want to get the bike going and then sell it, maybe after a few weeks of spinning around on it.

There are a few things I know I need to fix
- replacement battery (I have a Yuasa ready to go)
- replace windscreen as it fell over and cracked
- replace the wing mirror  holder as this broke when the bike fell over
- general wash and clean!

Any thoughts on what else I should do?  I'm optimistically hoping that the bike will start straight off with the new battery but also very aware that this may not happen.

All thoughts welcome!

Thanks. I managed to open the seat by taking the rear off. Stones the problem for the moment and I will get it properly fixed at the upcoming service.

Bike is low mileage but lives outside in the wet UK without a cover. Will be interesting to see what the issue was. I couldn't get things to work better using the seat cable adjusters.

taken the back plate off above the tail lights and try to open it that way you can see both latches .my was jammed or warped or something because when i finally got a screw driver in there i twisted the latch  and it popped open i even adjusted the cable and it still does it.so either the seat is warped .or the latch it's self is out of position when i have time ill take it all apart and run me a emergency wire to open it

I have the back plate off  but can't figure out how to free the latches? Is it easy to describe how you did this?

Downtown 300 / Seat stuck locked

Haven't used the bike in ages and found that the seat is locked in place and I can't get it to open. I don't want to twist the key too much in case it bends. Any ideas on how to get this open?

I'm 6" 1' and found the seat relatively uncomfortable when I first got the bike. Either the seat has "given" a bit or I have just got used to the riding position but after about 500 miles I find it far more comfortable. Having said that, I wouldn't mind being able to sit a little further back if the seat could be adjusted without losing any of the under seat storage.

Fitted the new windshield a lot smaller than anticipated but gives the scoot a sportier look. The wind hits you on the chest now not around your head. It is definitely a summer shield and I will be re-fitting the standard one for winter. I will post a pic as soon as I can.

Would love to see a photo. I hate the standard screen as I am 6'1" but think the Givi one looks massive.

I keep meaning to try taking the standard screen off and seeing how that looks and feels but haven't tackled that yet. Not sure it would look good!

Frank, how much are you paying for the alarm and fitting if you don't mind me asking?

I can get my Shoei Raid II into the front or back places for helmets so I presume I could also fit two of them under the seat.

I'm pretty happy with the underseat storage; I had a helmet, shoes riding jacket adn jeans under the seat when I went to the park yesterday which meant that I didn't have to carry anything around with me. Perfect!

I think it was the seat - at least I hope it was. I'm going to make sure the seat is shut all time and see how it goes.

The local scooter shop charged the battery for me and charged 25 quid including getting to it an putting everything back in place.

Not a bad price and a lot less than my old Honda dealer would have charged me for anything.
