I had similar issues on the carb - left it as stock and only adjusted the idle screw and it ran *much* better.

If you still are thinking of working with the stock carb, you can access the idle screw from the top if you very carefully remove the small brass indented plug located here:

Mine came out easily (no drilling required - just pressed slightly on one side of the plug, the other side popped up then i used some needle-nose pliers to pull it out.

There is a bit of difference in how it looks from the top.  Aside from a slight height difference for the driver section, the "nose" of the seat in front of the driver appears more rounded on the domestic version.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any before/after pics.  I'll take pics of it installed when I get the bike again (it's back in storage for a bit).   Otherwise, here's a couple pics that look to be typical of what the difference is:

Export:

As far as buying it here, I'm not sure - but the regional manager for the Western US ("Chris") offered to help find out a while back.  I'd suggest talking with your dealer and give him the Kymco part number I'd mentioned.  If they can't help you, go to the regional manager and/or direct to KymcoUSA.

moparkid - I hear you on the costs of having an upholstery shop mod the seat.  When I was checking around, I was quoted $350+.

What year is your DT 300? Does it have the light under the seat? Is the new seat more comfortable than the old one or just taller? Thanks...Russ

It's a 2011, and it does have a light under the seat (the light is in the tray section at the bottom - the new seat only includes the top hinged portion).  In terms of seat comfort, it's definitely more comfortable for me, but I think it's related only to the seating position.  The seat stiffness feels about the same on both.

@De-Dee - Yeah, I would have thought that we'd be getting the export version too.  I even asked the Kymco regional manager at one of the shows they'd sponsored in the area a while ago who said he would expect it to be export version as well.  He did offer to check further, but since I knew I'd be going to Taiwan shortly afterwards anyway, I decided to just wait where I could check the seat differences out in person before buying.

Downtown 300 / Seat options for Downtown 300i
« on: July 05, 2013, 02:27:40 AM »
Recently, I was lucky enough to find an affordable used DT300 - I bought it, and overall was pleased, but unfortuneately the seat felt way too low.  I expected that from some of the reviews, and set aside some extra cash for customization.

However, while investigating options, I stumbled upon this article (http://forum.jorsindo.com/thread-2152161-1-1.html ), which essentially points out that there are two seat options for the Downtown 300i (called Nikita in Taiwan).  In the first picture, it shows a picture of the underside of the two seats for comparison and identification, with the "Domestic" version on the left, and "Export" version on the right.

After inquiring in Taiwan, it turned out the driver seat height on the Export version was estimated to be a couple inches higher than the Domestic version.  A bonus is that it also accomodates stowage of 2 full-face helmets under the seat.  The cost was only around US$100 at the store (no shipping), so I bought it and brought it back.

Not sure why in the US we (at least sometimes) get the Domestic version, but the difference with the Export version is like night and day, and I find it to be perfect now.  For anyone who is thinking of changing their seat out to get the Export version, the part number on it is Kymco# G77200-LEA7-305-T01 .

Has anyone happened to find any more info. on passenger foot peg options for the Downtown?

The only thing I could find are these by Kymco Accessories in Taiwan, but aren't available here in the US:

Have you just linked my post to itself, mate?  :D

Where??  How??  What the??  Apparently I still haven't quite grasped how to copy/paste :-[
You'd probably already found the schematics, but here's the link I was trying to paste just in case:
http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=7446.msg81966#msg81966

Anyway,  not sure how it could go from 6-ohms resistance across the coils (yellow-yellow) to 0.8-ohms while the scoot isn't powered on.  Doesn't make sense to me either, especially if all 3 coil wire sets changed similarly.  If not already done so, you may want to disconnect the regulator during measurement of the coil resistance (the manual doesn't note that you should), and from that you may be able to at least isolate which part (regulator vs. coil) is responsible for the change in resistance.

Apart from perhaps checking for dirty connectors/grounding points, not sure where else to look...

Cheers,

Welcome, and check out this post:

Link corrected in post #4 below

It should have a link to the schematics for your bike (non-US version).  I'd specifically start looking at the voltage regulator as possibly being bad.  Check the voltages on the battery at idle and higher RPMs (service manual indicates it should be between 14~15V @ 5000RPM with Headlight High-beams turned on).

« on: April 25, 2013, 05:22:37 AM »
If you didn't get the clear plastic seat cover when you bought it, go back to the dealer and ask him to give you one.  Seems that some dealers think that cover is only for protection during shipping, and so remove and discard it during "dealer prep" assembly.

That one is certainly strong enough for at least a couple of years of use if you only need it to keep the seat dry while you're not riding it.

Don't worry about the bulbs.  I'd had over 30k miles on my older scoot, and never had a headlight burn out.

A much more common problem that you'd be likely to have is a flat, so make sure to take a small tire repair kit along (i.e. http://www.amazon.com/BikeMaster-Tire-Tube-Repair-YP-881TR/dp/B001KNYOPI/ref=sr_1_35 ).   Or you could consider getting a road side service insurance like Allstate RV RoadHelp (that policy includes motorcycles, and includes *unlimited* towing as well).

Wow, looks sharp Blackbeard!!

Some day after I finally spring for a GT300i, I was thinking to do something similar (but probably in red).  In searching for Streetglo-like decals, did you happen to come by any that were red in the day, and white at night?  I don't think Streetglo had that combo.

Thanks,

You're trying to sell stuff that's not rightfully yours??  The rightful owner could report it stolen a month later, and then both yourself and the buyer would have legal troubles.

As others in this thread (http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?action=post;topic=8777.0;last_msg=95296), report it as abandon with willingness to dispose of yourself, wait, and file at the DMV before trying to sell it or part it out.

Got the cheaper TMS one from here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IUKTKY/ref=ox_ya_os_product

It's worked well since I'd bought it last fall, and the most time it's gone without running/charging so far has been 3 weeks (from which the scooter started right up on return).

You may want to take a look at the larger capacity YTZ10S (or TTZ10S) which has very slight dimension differences.  I got one from a seller on Amazon. It fit fine, and was much cheaper than the orignal YTX7A-BS as well.

Super 8 150 / Re: Super 8 150 light cutting off when acelelrating

Sentinex, if you've got a US bike, the lights may be wired a bit different.  The headlights here draw power around 5.8A from a dedicated 7A Headlight fuse (that is fed into the Light Control Box).  The headlight Hi/Lo switch just passes only control signal into the Light Control Box (probably around 0.1A?), and it draws power from a different 7A "Accessory Fuse" that is shared with other things like brake/tail lights, turn signals, instrument panel, CDI, etc..

What this means is that if you simply jumper the Blue-to-Blue and White-to-White wires at the connector, you'll risk overloading the 7A Accessory fuse.  The set of blue/white wires that come from the hi/lo beam switch actually go into a circuit in the Light Control Box, along with a sense of the engine RPM, triggers a relay.  The relay then allows power from the dedicated 7A Headlight Fuse to flow through and out to the other set of blue/white wires that are connected to the headlights.  I've attached a rough schematic.

If you're bike is under warranty, I'd suggest just send a link of the video to Kymco USA.   They may be able to send you out a new Light Control Box since it's pretty clear from your video that its likely faulty.
