Bought a 2004 ZX 50 3 weeks ago to replace my other ZX 50 which had broken crankshaft.  The one
I bought ran fine until a week ago. It would barely idle and no power at take off sputter and die. Tried to adjust carb no help.  To make a long story short I replaced the carb with the one from my parts ZX-50 bike. Like a dummy a didn't make a diagram of where hoses went.  I have small hose 3inches back of carb attached to carb. I don't know where it goes. I have the fuel line connected, throttle assembly and oil line connected.  Bike runs fine.    Also previous owner plugged a inlet tube in manifold just in front of carb. I'm sure a hose went here but I can't find one on bike I bought.  Also where does long hose attach to carburetor that is connect to bracket on CVT cover by back wheel. Looks like a drain or overflow tube. The photos in repair manual don't shoiw great detail.

Need info for de-restricting a 2012 Agility 50. We own Kymco 2003 ZX-50 that I de-restricted using smooth boss on variator shaft & CDI wiring mod.. Crankshaft broke on that one so we are looking for a new one. I've read info on Agilty board and it seems like the CDI per the discussions is not restricted, but I've seen other information on the Internet where you use hacksaw on CDI. Man I'm confused about that! When I de-restrcited ZX-50 I had to cut some wires and jumper them on CDI. Any info would be greatly appreciated as well as What folks think of Agility 50. Also wondering if de-restricting voids warranty.

Here is my problem. Wife's ZX-50 has broken crankshaft.  I can take engine out, but i believe replacing crankshaft is above my skill level.  Looking at Kymco manual it looks like I have to press it out with some special crankshaft tool. I have alread bought several special tools (Flywheel puller, Air impact wrench) to get it down to the point where I could diagnose the problem.  I have contacted Kymco Delears who would repair it, but its almost not worth it for the price they charge Labor/Parts.  So I'm looking for ZX-50 engine rebuild.  Very hard to find online anybody thats in US.   I heard talk and looked at pictures of DIO engines and they look almost exactly like hers.  I would love a drop in replacement, no modifications.  We paid $800 3.5 years ago for the bike and she just loves the big frame, tires, handling etc. of the ZX-50 compared to my Honda scooter Elite 80 which has small tires, no handling, but faster.  She call's my Elite a Bitch Bike!  There's gobs of Honda Elites on Craigslist, but man not many Kymco's and when I find one its get snatched immediately.

zx50 / Has anyone removed engine from 2003 ZX-50
« on: December 05, 2011, 05:23:43 PM »
Has anyone removed the engine from a ZX 50? Found out crankshaft is broken, so I need to remove engine.
I pulled the flywheel and Variator/belt etc.. to find out crankshaft is bad so hoepfully I think I can do it.  I also bought a flywheel puller and impact wrench so I have some money into it already.
Just wondering how bad it is to remove engine and get crankshaft out and replace.

Little history: Crankshaft will turn when rotated manually about 1/4 turn on variator side of engine before crank starts turning on Flywheel side. Makes awful noise when started and barley runs so evidently crank is broken on variator side of crank allowing engine to still run. When it was all together it would barely turn back wheel when on center stand.

zx50 / Flywheel puller for ZX 50

Does anyone know where I can get the bolt/type flywheel puller for the ZX 50 Flywheel?

My 2003 Zx 50 Super Fever with 10,000 miles has major drive train problems.  The engine runs, but the bike will not move and it makes grinding/loose parts noise in the lower end around crankshaft.  I thought it might be the CVT/Clutch/rear reduction gears. Removed variator looks fine, belt is fine, Clutch and rear reduction gears look fine. Even replaced clutch with new one no help. Saturday I ran the engine with just the variator on the spline and the engine is making grinding loose part noise in lower end around crankshaft as far as I can tell. I'm beginning to think that to fix this problem I will have to pull engine and look at crankshaft  and associated parts. I beginning to thing that this repair is above my mechanical ability. Wonder if I should scrap the bike or how difficult of a repair is this. I really like the bike and I'm sure to have this repair done at Kymco shop would be more than the bike is worth. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated by anyone has done this repair or pulled the engine.

zx50 / Re: 2003 ZX 50 CVT Problem I think Won't go Engine runs

Yes the wheel and spline shaft  due turn when clutch is off.  Grinding noise does seem to be coming from rear wheel area when apply throttle. When given throttle rear wheel turns very very slowy. Just before this problem began I heard like loose part noise in rear wheel area when idling, Right after that bike slowed down and that was it!

Ordered new clutch and replaced. No help! There is a whiring and grinding noise in rear wheel area of bike. Took clutch off and rear spline moves fine when spinning by hand. No gear noise at at all when spinning wheel by hand.  I think I'm going to run engine with belt not hooked up to see if its the engine or rear wheel making grinding noise.. I am afraid to run bike with clutch/variator cover off because of starter and kick start gears might get locked up on flywheel when engine is running. Any troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated

zx50 / 2003 ZX 50 CVT Problem I think Won't go Engine runs

I have Kymco 2003 ZX 50. I derestricted it 3 years ago (CDI and new boss). It lost speed and just quit moving while my wife was driving it.  Engine continued to run.  Its hard starting now.  Have to use kick start while on center stand. Rear wheel is not turning when using throttle. Makes whiring noise. Took off CVT cover. Belt looks good. Did not take off variator to look at it, but visually everything looks good with variator. Thinking its a clutch problem.  Can I run engine with belt off to isolate problem in CVT to Variator or clutch?
