General Discussion / Re: Super 8 150
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:05:53 PM »
I have considered this bike for an up grade from my super 9 to the 150.  I am a little concerned about the price.  Most of the major manufactures are badging chinese made bikes to compete with the cheaper bikes.  Is this bike made in china?  I have done some reasearch and this bike seems to suffer some of the same problems as the cheap bikes.  leaking oil, short belt life, questionable reliability.  The specs i have found only rate the engine at 8 hp.  Not really much of an increase over the super 9. I guess i will just wait and see how many of these show up on the used market. and no the super 9 is not for sale.

Super 9 / What tire do you run?
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:17:52 AM »
I picked up a new Avon Viper Stryke 130/70-12.  The tire is much heavier than the stock Cheng Shin. I purchased it from www.americanmototire.com  It was $38.47 on my doorstep.  I ordered it on Friday got it on Tuesday.  All their prices include shipping which were alot less than my local dealers.  one guy wanted $50 for a Duro tire.  It is rated for 584 lbs and speed rated at 94 mph.  I have been shopping around for a few weeks.  I get conflicting opinions about the major brands.  I just want a tire that has decent wet weather traction and will last more than 2000 miles.  My stock tire has lasted about 6000 miles.  I still has decent tread but is full of patches and plugs and still leaks.  I  generally do not ride in the rain.  Who has bought a tire and busted their but on it.  Not interested in what people have heard.  I want first hand experience.  i figured i would give this one a try.  Made in Thailand

Super 9 / Oil pump cable broken.
« on: October 13, 2008, 01:40:17 PM »
I bought my super 9 used with 6000km.  I have put about 2000km in the last 2 months.  I was removing the mud flap and decided to give the engine a once over functions check.  I noticed the oil pump lever was not moving when I advanced the throttle.  After taking the rest of the body panels off I found the cable was broken about six inches from the pump.
I had no problems with the operation of the scooter.  No overheating or piston seizure.  Does the pump have a fail-safe? Does it go to wide open if the cable breaks?  Currently I have the pump at wide open with the 6" of cable locked into the bracket.
With every other oil injection system I have worked with if the cable broke you bought a new piston. I just cant understand how i have not been stranded on the side of the road.  Anyone else have this problem or know of a permanent solution.  If I replace the cable it will more than likely break again.
