Urbestfriend, I found the original part number from the parts finder - http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/OemParts#/Kymco_USA/Xciting_500/Wire_Harness/2K03110005/2K03110109

The part you would have wanted is item 31340 -

31340   31340-LBA2-E0A      SENSOR FR WHEEL SPEED **(4) C.2006.03.24   $66.78

The original (also detailed if you click on the little triangle on the page) shows the item this supersedes - 31340-LBA2-E00

Confirmed by my local dealer - Jet Ski Orlando, that it was a new item.

Visually the potting is different, and the plastic housing is marked with a 'P'.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for this message.  Urbestfriend has had more than numerous Speedometer
Issues as documented.  I have not double-checked the P/N you've listed,  but I will say I
ordered the sensor from Kymco 123 last fall.  After more than several weeks I found that
the sensor was on back-order,  so I cancelled it.  If your source is good,  then the delay
may have been because of restocking this replacement.  Mine hasn't worked at all for several
weeks lately.  Last week it kicked in for a short period after I had it in the garage with the front
wheel turned to the right.  It leads me to believe that it is a broken wire that periodically makes
contact.   Can you give us a confirmation where you found this out.

Xciting 500 / Wobbly Speedo Needle Syndrome
« on: May 04, 2012, 11:26:26 AM »
Hi
Last week I was afflicted with a nasty case of wobbly speedo. I used the search feature on this site to find that a whole bunch of others had also been suffering from this tragic disease.
Anyway, having a fair amount of dealings with speed sensors on other applications, I noticed this was a common failure for most speed/position sensors.
Kymco have been nice enough to re-engineer the replacement as they presumably had so many fail.

The new part number for said item is: 31340-LBA2-E0A

I hope this helps someone out, the speed sensor is always going to be the most likely failure mode between the wheel and display.
It's not a cheap fix $66 (ish) plus shipping & taxes, but a lot cheaper than the speedo cluster.
Unfortunately the old one is pretty much un-serviceable, the wires are 'potted' into the sensor, so gently scraping and chisseling may get to the pins to enable re-soldering a new cable, but unlikely.

Have you got  link or price for the bag and maybe the plate? Looks like a nice set up, and i'm doing a long trip next month, so would like something like that so I don't have to wear a very stuffed backpack for the entire journey!

Forgot to ask? What did the K66 cost? Tire only, not with shipping and such. :-* Nice looking tire, I'll try one when my new Mich Gold Standard wears out. :-*

I paid $129.63 (Free shipping thrown in). Do some searching on modernbuddy.com and modernvespa.com to find out how good these are.
I only bought the rear, but will get a front when there is less life on the current one.

Have you thought about Heidenau's? http://www.moto-amore.com/heidenau/new/productsnew_b.html
I have sworn (amongst many other loyal Heidenau fans), these are the best out there, I put them on my buddy, double the life, and great grip. Available in 'S' speed rating without worry. PROPERGerman manufacturer, not just a German name, I just (on Friday) put a new K66 on the rear of my x500, so to early for any reviews, but they are awesome, and made for wet conditions.......

Xciting 500 / Re: How do you remove rear wheel?
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:32:42 AM »
Thanks for the info guys. I finally got round to stripping it down today, ready for new tire coming in tomorrow.

All very easy with a selection of metric tools (8, 12, 14mm) I think were the main ones. For future reference for anyone doing it, you need a 27mm socket to remove the wheel nut.

Thanks

Any advice on how to get the rear off for new tire time?

It looks like quite a lot may need to come off, any easy tips greatly appreciated!

Xciting 500 / Re: Variator update
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:24:13 PM »
I bought that exact impact wrench at harbor freight last year. I will use it to put everything back together. Question, I bought a used variator that has about 3,800 miles on it. Should I grease the boss since it has already been broken in? And with what grease? Hi temp wheel bearing grease? :-*

Steady on! NEVER do nuts / bolts back up with an impact wrench, there is a good chance that you could snap the bolt, and you don't want that in a crank, an expensive fix!
Use a torque wrench, or just snug it up with a 'bit for luck' if you haven't got access to torque wrench!

Thanks for the info guys!

Do you need to remove the fairing to change out the indicator relay? (there is just one isn't there to cover both sides)?

I am going to order the parts up, and the only thing i'm semi worried about, is getting to the relay to change it out for the superbrightleds one for LED's.

I am going to add (for the record - in case anyone else wants a full shopping list):
Bulbs: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FBAU15S-x18-T.htm

Relay / Flasher: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Ftail-brake-turn.html%23flasher The "LF1-S-FLAT: Universal Motorcycle Flasher" type.

Magic Blinkers: http://www.customled.com/products/magic_blinker/magic_blinker.htm

Rear Brake light modulator: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=CAR&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2Flsc-100a.htm

Help with relay question greatly appreciated, thanks!

Just a quick question to Hoolander or Justwanttoride,

Did you need to use the load equalizers suggested in their diagram:

http://www.customled.com/products/load_equalizer/load_equalizer.htm

to ensure the LED's flashed at the correct rate?

I'm planning to do the full upgrade with super Bright LED's, and hope to get everything right before cutting things up!

Thanks!

For Sale / Wanted - Xciting Parts
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:29:38 PM »
Hi

I have just bought a 2009 Xciting 500R used, which I would like to replace a couple of the stock items.
I am looking to buy the standard front seat back pad with it's frame - in the black / dark grey that comes standard on the white bike.
Also, the rear passenger grab rail, color not important, but white preferred, the previous owner turned the original one into swiss cheese, drilling it for a rack!

Thanks for looking!
