Xciting 500 / BLOWN ENGINE
« on: July 15, 2015, 01:03:20 AM »
:'((Just blew the engine on my 2008 500Ri.  I have been riding at 115 to 120 Kph on average and the odd 130 to pass on the autoroute for about a month and a half, every day roughly 2 hours a day..  Since it was close to redline I figured I'd check the oil level.  It was fine last I looked.  2 days later WITHOUT ANY WARNING my bike started to slow down going up a hill.  The heat level was normal, the engine oil light wasn't on but it lost power.  I managed to start it up and do another 2 K before it died on me completely.   The CAA dragged me over 100 kliks to my dealership who tells me that my engine is blown, finished.  it's got 19,000 k on it and could cost me over $2000 to fix or more if I get a replacement engine.  KYMCO is working hand in hand with my dealer but my garantie is over since 2012.(bought a 2008 new model in 2010).  Has anyone else had problems with their engine dieing on them?

Let me know.

Xciting 500 / HELP! Bike won't start, need advice
« on: June 06, 2014, 11:51:49 AM »
Has anyone out there had a similar problem.  When starting the X500 I get a "poof" where it sounds like it's going to ignite and then it just turns over not wanting to start.  I tried this for 20 minutes with the same result and couldn't get it started.  I had it picked up and brought to the garage (also had a grinding sound when at low speed) and it's been there a week and they can't find the problem.  The first day it got there they turned the key and it started right up so they couldn't find any problem because it was transitory but working fine then.  The day I was supposed to go pick it up they tried it again and it started.  Tried it one more time and it hasn't started since.  He seems to be stumped.  Any ideas what it could be?  Has someone had this problem before.  Please Help.  Thanks

Xciting 500 / lithium vs standard batteries
« on: April 14, 2014, 09:46:59 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm thinking of changing batteries to a lithium battery and wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with this type.  I know it's lighter and supposed to be stronger (and much smaller) and wondered if it was worth the effort of changing.  Let me know.  Thanks

Xciting 500 / Cold weather start
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:40:33 PM »
I could use a useful suggestion on how to start the bike in cold weather.  If it's anywhere under 4 degrees  (39 fahrenheit) I have a hell of a time to get it started.  The battery cranks it but if I don't get it after 5 or 6 tries fageddaboutit.  I drive until about 2(35f) because our summer is so short so I'd appreciate your input to extend my driving season.  Thanks

Xciting 500 / Horn Relay
« on: May 07, 2013, 01:19:52 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm back with more questions.  Has anyone had problems with the horn relay on their bike?  Mine is X500RI 2008.  I had 2 horns installed so I can be heard if I'm not seen and all of a sudden they died on me.  I'm pretty sure it's the relay.  Anyone know where I can get the part number?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks. :)

It's a 2008 Xciting 500Ri and as far as the myth, I asked Kymco directly and Sabrina was nice enough to confirm that there is an agreement between the motorcycle companies to calibrate the speedos 10 to 20K faster than you are really doing.  I made an appointment for next Monday to ride a dynamometer and as they give me the correct speeds I'll put a small tape arrow on my speedo. so I can be accurate. I would however like to hear more about the dedicated GPS.  That sounds pretty interesting to me.  Please give me more info when you have a minute.
Thanks for your info and opinions.

General Discussion / Inacurate Speedomoter/anyone got a fix it idea?
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:53:03 AM »
It's my 2nd year now and I've gotten all the bells and whistles I wanted to customize it to my satisfaction and I'm really enjoying the bike.  Now on to more practical matters.  Kymco says there's an agreement between companies to put the speedomoter 10-20K an hour faster than is the reality.  I don't need someone else to help me control my speed. I'm 56 and had 1 ticket in 40 years.  I went out with the Mrs. in her car and with the aid of signals figured out that starting around 80kph(Canada-kilometers) I'm faster about 10K.  Up to 120 KPH it seems to be about 10kph different.  Now I know we drive fast in Quebec but sometimes I have to hit 140kph just to keep up with the faster traffic. I figure they must be doing about 70 miles per hour (120kph) give or take a few.  Has anyone out there figured out a way to fix this problem?  Please let me know.
Thanks

Xciting 500 / Re: Scratches in windshield. What to do?

Thanks everyone.  I tried some of your suggetsions (sandpaper made it worse) and I couldn't find some of the products locally.  I took a last shot with something called PlastX that I found at Canadian Tire (there was this young kid who seemed to know everything) and before buying a new shield I spent $10.00 and gave it a try.  It worked beautifully. removed the original scratches and the hazing from the sandpaper.  Got lucky.

Xciting 500 / Re: Engine warm up
« on: July 12, 2012, 11:48:50 AM »
Hi Mike,
Welcome back to the forum and although I haven't read the comments aimed in your direction keep in mind the strength of character it takes to aim barbs anonymously at someone when there are no consequences possible.  You won't be able to change such people so forgive them (or ignore them) move on and hope that they see the light of reason some day.
I'm like you I joined up to get info from my new X family and most of them have been able to help me with advice that I usually wind up using. But, if you can't find the info on line or at your dealer try writing to Kymco (Canada in my case) at  inforequest@kymco.ca and a woman named Sabina gets back to you.  If she doesn't know the answer she asks the engineers, technicians etc. and gives me the info I need.
As far as letting it warm up, my dealer says 30 seconds to a minute is all I need.  I assume he knows more than me so that's what I've been doing.  Hope this helps
HO HO! :
PS Maybe if we stuck to scooters on this forum we'd get along better.  There are lots of political and personal forums out there for all matters NON SCOOTER.  Ride safely....

Just heard from GIVI and they say the screen is a poly...There's some sort of coating inside and according to the rep it can't be fixed.  Of course this was the rep that said there was no model windshield of GIVI that would fit my bike.  I guess I'll try the sandpaper and see what happens on a small area.  Thanks everyone.
( :(Still open to other suggestions)

It's the GIVI D293ST.  Don't know if it's acrylic or PC.  I'm trying to find out on the i-net but haven't succeeded yet.  Still waiting for a response from GIVI.  Thanks for the tips.  By the way, GIVI Quebec said to use Slip Streamer 048-600(their code number) but only on acrylic.
