Air filter? I just can not remember at which mileage it shall be replaced.

Has anyone tried a Bando race coil for better electronic performance?

Not a Bando, but BGM - anyway, looks the same and I guess it is just different branding in Europe.

Engine starts better now - what I immediately see. I expect most effect being at high RPMs, but my carb/transmission is not adjusted yet at all (waiting for exhaust gas analyzer to properly adjust it), so I can hardly get it to 10,000 RPM, while last season it was 12,000+ no pbs.

P.S. Now installed: 52mm (90cc) bore kit, big-valve head (also manually modified), enforced crankshaft, high-profile camshaft, adjustable clutch, lightened clutch bell, modified torque driver, custom vario (increased diameter), new drive belt, 20mm carb.

Agility 50 / Re: 17mm Pulley Nut
« on: February 07, 2009, 06:35:05 AM »
Impact wrench is a wrong thing for this nut. It will work and you will get things done, but you will definitely apply excessive force and vibration to all the engine - crank and camshafts, chain, piston and rings - and all this while having lack of lubrication because of the oil pump is not running.

I suggest you to make a simple holder with three or more teeth that you can fix on the bolts that normally hold transmission cover (use minimum of 2 bolts). If you have angle ginger, then here is a hint: 115 mm cutting discs perfectly match diameter of non-moving variator gear that you held with screwdriver.

Agility 50 / Re: Too Long to Warm Up
« on: February 07, 2009, 06:26:10 AM »
Well... in my case after 30 sec I can not even go slight uphill of 5%...

I plan to make a simple test - to warm up a carb with electric air heater to, say, +15. I believe that we have complications with a) rubber membrane that controls vacuum inside carb - it is becoming too hard, and b) casoline is evaporating quite slow from cold carb. So I think that the scooter does not run well until carb is getting warmer, and this is slow because of we have termal insulator between cylinder head and carb entry pipe.

I have Kymco KY-D406 CDI unit, and the feeling is the same. With this unit I was able to speed engine up to 11,200 RPM. Would be interesting to find what is the difference between D406 and D412.

Agility 50 / Re: Too Long to Warm Up

Well, in my case it is not necessary to drive to get accelerator reacting. If I warm up for 10 minutes at -5 Celsius, it definitely goes well. Few days ago I had a fun ride on a pure ice with summer tires, it took approx. 15 minutes to make 1,5 km with a lot of fun, but I have to admit that engine was performing and reacting quite well.

I believe that for colder weather you shall re-adjust the carb, which is anyway rather simple procedure and especially on Agility 50 does to require any disassembly - you just need long enough screw driver (OK, I use 40 cm flat one), and another one (cross) to adjust the idle RPM. I still believe that you can live with the same jet both summer and winter.

phin63,

Do you know the part number?

I have original Kymco unrestricted CDI unit, which performs quite well, and I am wondering if there is something better.

People at Philippines mentioned a kind of "programmable CDI from Kymco", but I've never been able to find its part number.

BTW, CDI replacement is a sub-minute procedure and definitely makes sense if you don't mind speed restrictions in your country.

Anyone have a comment on why (in this colder weather) it take about 5 minutes warm-up
to get any power.

It is OK, I have the same on all GY6 50cc engines here for temperatures below +4..+5 Celsius, tested down to -20 Celsius.

You anyway have to warm it up for minimum 5 minutes before you ride at neg. temperatures.

I've already mentioned to my dealer that they have to check if they can sell me one for next season. BTW, it is not so easy here, but this is definitely a piece I will add to my collection.

Super 8 / Re: Under seat storage..?

I was wondering if there was enough space to fit 1 full faced helmet under the seat?

My helmet DOES NOT FIT. And this is a biggest disadvantage of Super 8. Under-seat storage is a bit too small.

Anyway, it did not stopping me from daily use of Super 8.

I hear (have not seen this in person) that you can get close to 55 mph

I target 100 km/h for next season, and I think that it is realistic.

I ordered racing coil from BGM, but did not install it yet. Will see the results during the next season. On the other hand, I still think that the primary target for tuning (right after the engine iteslf) is transmission, because of I got 80 km/h at 11500 rpm. Top RPM I've ever seen is 12100, but it was on a slight downhill. It is nice to know that engine can perform at such rpm, but it is a... bit too high.

I assume that the Super 8 is much like the People S 50 and the Agility 50.

Mostly, yes. I do not know of other restrictors in S8 besides main jet, pink wire on CDI and drive boss.

I assume your Agility does a solid 50mph/80kph?

Yes, it does.

Replaced parts are:
50mm cylinder set from NCY, incl. new head with bigger valves;
Sport cam shaft from BGM;
Tuned CDI from Kymco (they have special one for Agility 50);
Vario from BGM
Direct exhaust pipe (unknown chinese vendor, very nice looking, well performant, but nearly does not silence the exhaust)
Bigger main jet in carb;
Adjusted vario weights.

These modifications where relatively inexpensive (I did not calculated exactly, but it is around $500 for parts). Pricing is different now, and there are new performance parts available, so for next season I will go for much bigger modification and rebuild.

I've made some measurements while tuning my Agility 50 (see attached chart).

Lowest chart is a derestricted stock version. Middle one is a chart with 85cc (50mm) kit from NCY installed. Topmost is the same as middle + BGM SuperTune vario installed.

Anyway, next season I go higher cylinder kit (52mm) and completely rebuild transmission, but the cost of such modifications already far ahead the price of new scooter itself.
