Say, I've got a Biondi windscreen on my GT300i that I want to replace with the Puig.  I've decided that for highway driving (which I'm doing a lot more of these days) I'd like a larger screen that I have to look through (rather than over, as I do the Biondi).   Wanna swap?  My Biondi is in good shape (been used for two years) and has just some very minor scratches -- which you won't even notice since you'll be looking over the windscreen.

People GT 300i / Re: GT300i Maintenance schedule questions

Thanks to all the fine souls who responded to my post about this.   I think what I'm going to do for now is change the tranny and engine oil, clean the air filter (unless it looks unsalvageable) and maybe replace the spark plug with an iridium tipped one.  I'm going to not worry about the brake and coolant fluids for now.   I can't convince myself that those should be going bad yet (I replace the coolant at about 60,000K on my cars and I've NEVER replaced the brake fluid).  As someone posted, you'd go broke having all this scheduled maintenance done at a shop.

People GT 300i / GT300i Maintenance schedule questions
« on: March 27, 2014, 06:27:56 AM »
I've got about  6000 miles on my GT300i now and getting ready to do some regular maintenance before it becomes warm enough to ride up here in Minnesota.  My questions have to do with the maintenance schedule I've found in the service manual.   I'm fine with changing the oil, and filter and tranny oil, but am balking at some of the other items they are recommending replacing:  namely the spark plug, air cleaner, brake fluid and coolant.   Is all that really necessary every 6000 miles?   Can anyone with significant miles on their 300 give me an opinion as to whether they've found that any or all these items really need replacement that often?

Thanks for any input.

I've almost got 6000 miles on my GT300i and am looking at the needed maintenance.   I noticed in the service manual that they recommend replacing the spark plug at this point.  First of all, is that really necessary -- seems like a spark plug should last longer than that (at least the ones in my car don't need to be changed until 100K miles).   But if it does really need to be changed, does anyone have a suggestion as what to replace it with (especially if that replacement would last longer than the original)?

Thanks for any advice.

People GT 300i / Re: top box rattle fix

I had this annoying problem of the top box rattle when I first got my 300gti last spring.  I immediately bought a roll of closed cell 1/8" foam tape (about $2.00) and cut off enough to go around the entire box and just just stuffed it into the lower channel.   It took all of 3 minutes to do, has stayed in place over a year and not only stopped the rattle but seems to make the box leak-proof as well.

Bought my gold one in May 2012 from Scooterville in Minneapolis.  Have about 1400mi on it now.   It's been great.   Added a Biondi windshield and a batman sticker, and that's about it.

Thanks for the info.

Another question, is there a way to bypass the side stand safety switch?

Why in the world would you want to do this?   That feature has saved me a couple of times from riding off with the kickstand down and a possible spill.

I'm not saying NOT to do what manufacturer suggests...
....
Also did not follow the "recommended" tire pressure, and the "recommended" battery size, the "recommended" headlight bulb...

Ok, now I'm curious.  How did you deviate from the "recommended" tire pressure, and why?

The maintenance schedule is in the owner's manual which you can download at http://www.kymcousa.com/owners/index.html

Basically regular maintenance is required at 1000km, then 5000km and then every 5000km after that.

The brakes on the People GT 300i are NOT ABS.

Once you've installed it and ridden it for a while, see if you find a noticeable improvement in gas mileage.   For mainly highway riding, installing the Biondi on my People GTi 300 improved it from 67 mpg to a little over 80 mpg.   I'm curious to see if others experience this type of improvement.

People GT 300i / Re: People 300 GTi seat comfort?
« on: July 23, 2012, 06:56:19 AM »
I heard some where about People 300 GTi it is the best bike for long drive and it gives good mileage. It have a good features like big wheels, fuel efficiency, disk break. I think its seat is comfort and its good for long drive and it have no slop so that i think it comfort for seating long time during long drive.

I have to say I really like the People 300 GTi for long rides.   I recently did about 240 miles in a day (about 4-1/2 hours in the seat) and experienced no discomfort at all in the seat.   However, the 300 does seem to fit me really well (I'm 5'11 , 190 lbs with a 32-inch inseam) -- so depending on your body size you may feel differently.   One thing I will say is you'll probably want a better windscreen than the little dinky one it comes with.   I found that adding the Biondi windscreen (which is still fairly short) added immensely to my riding pleasure at 65+ mph speeds.   It also seems to have significantly increased my gas mileage (80+ MPG) and made the scooter seem even more planted on the highway.

To get back on topic (again), I have a couple of more "wants":

  • How about a rear camera system (that would display on the console)?   Then you could eliminate the wide view mirrors and all the air drag they cause.
  • How about a "flip-up" windshield that would be minimal in the down position (so you could easily see through it for city driving) but then you could flip it up (or something) to make it full size to give maximum protection while cruising at high speeds?

People GT 300i / MPG: Another reason to get a windscreen?
« on: July 21, 2012, 03:45:00 AM »
Interesting observation on the effect of getting the Biondi windscreen for my GTi 300:   I gassed up just before I rode up to Minneapolis (from Rochester) and after the windscreen was installed gassed up again in Minneapolis and rode back down to Rochester.   The trip each way was 110 miles.      The wind all day was 8-10 mph from the SE, so I actually had a tailwind riding up and had to fight a headwind riding back down.   My MPG on the way up (before the windscreen was installed) was 67.   My MPG on the way down (after the windscreen was installed) was a little over 80.   I had heard that getting a windscreen can increase MPG, but that is quite a significant improvement!   My average speed (I was taking mostly back roads through small towns) was around 60 mph.   Now, I also had my oil changed when I got the windscreen installed, but even so, I'm quite pleased with the MPG improvement the windscreen seems to have caused, and I hope it continues.

P.S.  I also noticed the scoot seemed a little more glued to the road with the windscreen.   I suppose the effect of the wind "pressing down" slightly on the windscreen (and the scoot) could account for that.

How tall are you?  I am trying to understand exactly how tall it sits above existing cowling.  Thanks

I am 5'11.  The top of the Biondi windscreen sits exactly 7-1/2 inches above the existing black 'cowling' (if that's what its called) that's comes standard with the GTi 300.  As far as my height is concerned, it could be a couple inches taller and I'd still be able to see over it comfortably.

I just got the Bondi windscreen installed on my GTi 300 at Scooterville in Minneapolis.   I rode up to Minneapolis from Rochester (about 100 miles) to get it installed.   I must say the return trip (with the windscreen) was a much more pleasant experience than the ride up.   The Bondi windscreen is a minimal screen, meaning you see over it and what it mainly does is deflect the wind from hitting your torso.   You still get wind noise on your head (unless you crouch down right behind it).   Since I do most of my riding around town, I prefer to see over the windscreen; however if I were doing more highway cruising, I probably would consider a larger screen that you would have to see through, but would eliminate most of the wind noise around the head.   Too bad someone doesn't make a windscreen that you can size adjust on the fly.   Then you could make it full size for highway cruising, and smaller for around town.   However, for my main usage, the Bondi seems to work well and looks great as well.
