Bet & Win 250 / Re: bet and win 250 dashboard backlight
« on: April 26, 2018, 04:38:34 AM »
Hey Rudolf / MrBios, thanks for all that good info you posted about this fix. I ordered a few of those EL inverters from ebay, really cheap at about $2 each, and they work perfectly! A few years ago I had originally ripped out the centre foil on the dash (there are 3 foils on the B&W dash) and installed 2 brite LED's 'cos I had no idea what the problem was and needed to see the speedo at night. Anyhow, I thought it would be cool to see the remaining parts of the dash lit up again, so I removed the existing inverter from the circuit board and ran the wires thru the main wire cork stopper. Installed the new inverter out the back of the casing and that dash is now super sweet! Cheers

*SOLVED* After swapping carbs I had the same issue so decided to check out the inline fuel filter. Well what do ya know - that filter was so clogged up I could hardly blow thru it! The filter was an after market conical type bought at the local parts shop. Swapped over the genuine filter from my donor bike and all good now.

Researching this prob I found a bunch of good info on this forum, so thanks to you all for that. I hope my experience helps someone else. Next big job is to swap over the engine/tranny from my donor bike - it only has a few thousand miles on it while my existing scoot has near on 70k miles. Will leave it for Spring time (Oct here in New Zealand).

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Hey Dan, just saw this post, it will be great to get info on the exact parts replaced.
I'm in new Zealand, but it seems many owners have similar probs. Enjoy your vacation, Nigel

Hi Carrie
Do you have an update on this problem? I am having the exact same issue with my Kymco Bet & Win 250. And it's getting worse. I can actually feel that the bike starts losing power and then it just starts to bog down. It will idle fine or ride perfectly at a lower speed and then I can get up to full power again and the symptoms may or may not happen again. I removed the carb this weekend, sprayed carb cleaner everywhere, left overnight and sprayed out with compressed air. The diaphragm looks ok and there is no sludge buildup in the float chamber. Vacuum lines look good. Put back together and bam! 10minutes down the highway and the bike starts to bog down again.

Please let me know if you have resolved your problem - maybe it can help solve mine.

I have a carb from a donor bike which I am going to swap in in the meantime.

Cheers
Nigel

General Discussion / Re: Beware: Kymco Parts Monster

I've always had reliable service from stadiumyamaha. Last time I contacted them was Nov 2013, but it looks like they took down their Kymco page. Try emailing them on parts@stadiumyamaha.com. All the best.

Hi All
Just a heads up to beware when purchasing from Kymco Parts Monster http://www.kymcopartsmonster.com/
They also are affilliated to Polaris Parts Monster, Suzuki Parts Monster, Victory Parts Monster, Yamaha Parts Monster.
The contact email is parts@interstatecycle.com but you will not find this on their website because the customer service page has been removed.

I live in New Zealand and ordered a complete clutch and drum for my Bet & Win 250, using Paypal. I waited and received the goods 3 months later, but the clutch was wrong -it was for a 150 B&W. I tried to contact them for another 3 months - they initially responded and then...nothing. Paypal will not refund because it is out of the 45-day refund period.

I am now out of pocket by $250 AND I still don't have my parts. I have been mugged by these criminals. So beware.

Sorry I can't help you with your question, but can I ask you about the 300cc kit. What else is reqd to upgrade to this kit? I would have thought it is just a bigger cylinder and piston and therefore nothing else is needed and that the carb would handle the extra load. Cheers and good luck. Let us know what it rides like !

General Discussion / Re: Grand Dink 250 dashboard backlight

hi
I had the same problem with my Bet & Win 250.
see
http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=4291.0

The Grand Dink shares a lot with the Bet & Win so the backlight might be the same - if the dealer says the fix is to get another speedo unit, chances are the backlight is the same flourescent strip which does seem to fail. Very irritating - Kymco should have issued a recall for these.

Bet & Win 250 / Re: Help for J Costa install into B&W 250
« on: July 16, 2012, 12:48:16 AM »
Hi all
Just an update on this issue - I sent everything back to J Costa. I still believe there is something wrong in the kit that was sent to me. Just waiting for my refund now......

In the meantime my Dr Pulley weights are just awesome! I installed 26g weights which I think is really the highest the scoot can handle on my weight. The rpms have dropped by about 2000rpm at 105kph !!! Currently it is 6000, used to be almost 8000. High speed cruising is now virtually effortless....

I also installed a new rear tyre and drive belt.

cheers

Bet & Win 250 / Re: New Windshield and Trunk for my B&W 250

Looks great. At least your hands will be a bit protected from the elements.
Let us know if you have any wind / noise issues.

I installed an excellent quality touring windshield 2 years ago and it also looks great and probably saves me a bit of fuel.
However, the noise is terrible and I have to ride with earplugs.
Also, crosswinds have become a bit of a nightmare, so I remove when the windy season starts.

OK, if anybody's interested, the dashboard backlight is NOT fixable.

It appears that the "backlight" is actually an illumination strip - i guess it is some or other type of flourescence activated by electricity.

Getting the unit apart is another beast, which presented a nice challenge. The front cover is glued tightly shut so cannot be lifted out. So I drilled it out, using a small bit and about 300 holes (just a guess). After that it was plain sailing. I took everything apart except the needle because i was afraid that once the needle comes off it might not fit properly again. The strip was then almost accessible - just had to cut it so that I could slip it out around the needle.

My plan is to use 5 or 6 hi-bright green LED replacements. Now that the illumination strip is out I can get the LEDS right up against the perspex reflector lens - at least I'll be able to see my speedo now at night! The front cover will be reglued / resealed into place with some good silicone.

cheers

Yep, that's the one as far as the product code goes, although the rear housing looks different, but I think the pic is just a sample pic. The supplied weights were actually lighter, 12.5g, so I ordered 14g weights which did not work so well either.

Yes, I tested with both the new and stock belts, so yes, I have become quite good at changing the belts and variators....

On my Bet&Win 250 I only have to remove the bottom bolt of the shock absorber where it attaches to the "link arm". The shock then just swings out of the way.

Bet & Win 250 / J Costa still not working in Bet & Win 250
« on: June 05, 2012, 04:07:25 AM »
As a follow up to this (and  in case anyone is vaguely interested) I contacted J Costa directly and they emailed me an installation manual, different to and much better than the one supplied in the kit. However, the new instructions verified I was installing everything correctly - it is a very basic installation anyway.

I also took their advice and ordered and installed heavier 14g weights.

** Even with heavier weights, the J Costa variator still DOES NOT WORK **

OEM variator = 105kph (65mph) at 7000rpm
J Costa variator = 70kph (43mph) at 7000rpm

Both J Costa and my scooter shop have now gone quiet on me.

I can only assume that there must be an incorrect part in the kit, but J Costa is not forthcoming at all about any information. Very frustrating :(

In the meantime I have ordered some Dr Pulley weights to get me back on the road again......
