General Discussion / Re: What Octane Do You Use?
« on: December 25, 2008, 08:10:02 AM »
Top tier gas seems to have a foot hold in all them name brand gas places i said to buy your gas.......
I dont know or care who they are as a corporation, as I dont want to sell anyone anything!
Yes, it is true that you should NOT run racing formulated oil in your station wagon, and yes they do require changing a little more often, (my god it holds over a qt!) but we are talking about an air cooled, high rpm engine! I have never seen the foaming problem you mention out side of the parafin based oils such as quaker state and penzoil, a type of oil that should never be put in anything of any value.
As for your gas milage comment on the vino 2 stroke, I don't get it. You state that your are sports car inclined, yet you try to increase gas mileage on a 2 stroke engine simply by raising the octane alone? This is a great way to increase low rpm  power, but never  fuel economy in a 2 stroke engine. If that held weight, then theoretically, on aviation fuel you would achieve super high fuel mileage, instead of the real results you get, "THE WILD RIDE", been there done that. There are some great big differences in 4 stroke engines, weather they are water cooled, air cooled, or oil cooled, my point was to not scrimp in the area of oil & gas! Stay with the name brands if you want your scooter to last!
I did not come here to measure testosterone or brain pans. I do not care who you are or what you've done or haven't done. I dont care if your dad can beat up my dad, if your scooter is better than mine, ect.
I don't even care if you dont follow free advise from me and use mini mart gas & oil, it is not my scooter.
My best advice is this...........
There seems to be alot of information available on the net on scooters. Some very good(scootdawg) some absolutely worthless lies aimed at getting you to choose one product over another. If you want to REALLY know how to keep a good running scooter, then find someone who has a sweet running scooter, and hang with and learn from that person. Better that than taking my advise and blowing up your scooter. Learn to work on your own scooter, as a zen thing, like spending time with it, lovin on it, but know I'm just being sentimental, or maybe just mental........... ::)

Why do all the "Old guys" burn premium? Could it be WE know sumthin? Nah, we're just a bunch of old rich goats with bucket loads of money, so we like our gas premium, of coarse!
The absolute truth has already been stated by others, so I shall not be redundant. Buy The best, name brand, premium grade gas available! Period, end of subject!
Last summer I made a game of trying to put a whole $5 bill into my tank. I ONLY BURN NAME BRAND PREMO! I NEVER GOT $5 To FIT, got close, but no cigar! @ almost $ 4.00 a gallon!
A better, and MORE VALID question would be about oil/ oil changes. Always stay with the same manufacture/brand when changing oils! Do NOT MIX BRANDS!!!!!!!!! DO NOT MIX VISCOSTY(ie no mixig 10-40 with 15/40, ect!)
I use ONLY Valvoline Racing oils in ANYTHING! Why? After being a wrench for a while, you get to see the difference these things make INSIDE the engine as far as wear, cleanliness, ect.
I used to be on a crew team for modified race car, we raced on dirt and asphalt. Our engines were put through some rigorous runs, and we tore them down weekly. When we started using the Valvoline racing formula, internal wear dropped dramatically! Made a believer out of me, because I actually saw this happen. No, I don't work for anybody, I'm a bum, a scooter bum, thank you!
In a air cooled engine I run 10/40 for fall through spring. If the weather gets too warm, I'll change out to 20/50. But I never Wander from Valvoline Racing formula ever! It is what will be in my Agility!
What does your dealer use? Um- prolly what ever the local guy sells him CHEAP, because he is after all in business to make the most money he can! 8) Unscrupulous? Nah, just business, wadda ya think yer special? He buy his oils in 55 gallon drums, go look at the brand! Is it a good one? If it is, then no worries.
GOOD GAS & GOOD OIL are the best thing you can do for extending the life of ANY internal combustion engine, how do I Know?

Agility 125 / Agility Mods, (or, How to void your warrentee!)
« on: December 24, 2008, 08:10:30 PM »
I have been looking, and call me crazy, but my 09 Agility SEEMS to have a "Standard GY6" configureation........hhhmmmm.....
I see on this website, Jap-Rider Boyz with mods on thier scooters....HHHMMMmmmm(again)
I talked to my dealer about performance stuff and he says a "New Cataloge" of stuff due out in January or so. I ask him, does any of this stuff void my warrentee if I have HIM install it? (I wanted better air filter/exhaust/carb jet package for "cruising." ;D) He says ANY MOD, DONE BY ANYONE, EVEN GOD, WILL VOID THE WARRENTEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! ???
 HHHMMMMMM (yet, again) ::)
I have checked and looked........ I have researched....... I have re-researched.......
And I haven't found much of anything in the way of mechanical complaints on this machine's power plant as far as reliablity issues. Which leads me to believe that it is at the very least reliable with proper maintenance..........
I like to break in my new machines, all of them, in a little on the "Babying" side, mostly because I made my living as a mechanic, and I like my stuff to last a while. I do this with extra care and high quality oils, ect. when the machine is new. I generally let the dealer do the first service, just for the warrenttee stuff alone...........
Usually, I will redo MOST, IF NOT ALL OF THIS SAME SERVICING AS SOON AS I GET SAID VEHICAL HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why? Easy, I used to work as a mechanic, and a supervisor, so in the interest of Quality control....(not that I would EVER 'dis' another mechanic's ability, or whether He wanted to be doing that job, ect)
I actually ENJOY tinkering. SO................
I think I will try the preformance parts on my agility anyway, after breakin, VOIDING THE WARRENTEE, just to see if they fit on a Aglility engine/scooter configeration, or are we really stuck having to buy "special Kymco high performance parts" to do the same.
If they fit, or can be modified easily to make them fit they will stay.
This engine SEEMS to be the copy of Honda's 125, the original GY6, if so then "most" aftermarket parts should work. Something I found untrue for the Yamaha 125 Vino, it has a secondary oil filter system that the standard GY6 does not, preventing the use of almost all of the hi-pro stuff available in the aftermarket.
Should I really care about the warrentee? Lemme see....
My vino was still under warrentee when someone stole and thrashed it! Yep, that thar warenttee did me alot of good, it did.
My therory has always been this: Break 'er in easy, then ride it like you stole it!

Agility 125 / 09 Kymco Agility 125 First Impressions
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:49:50 PM »
I just bought a 2009 Kymco Agility 125, from Paulson's Motorsports in Lacey, Wa., 2 weeks ago and finally brought it home yesterday! Not that the dealer had anything to do with the wait, it started snowing the day after I bought it, so I figured it was warm and dry right there.
I did not test drive this scooter prior to buying it, nor had I even seen a Kymco product, other than on the internet.
I was researching chinese scooters, looking to replace my stolen 2008 Yamaha Vino 125. There seemed to be alot of opinions and experiences out there by folks that both love and hate them. My Vino was built in Tiawan, it said so on the label, so I knew there were good products coming out of there.

(NOTE) >:( I had also had the "pleasure" of owning one of the early 200cc enduros that came from China, something I didn't want to repeat, considering I wanted a daily driver more than a "cute little scooter". That was absolutely the worst manufactured piece of machinery I have ever encountered in a lifetime as a mechanic. Not that engine wise there was anything wrong, it ran great! It just literally vibrated itself to an early, yet mechanic prolonged explosion seperating frame from engine, front end from back end, you get my drift, every time I rode it!  :'(*******

I had a complaint about my Vino, really, just one. Have you ever seen a carnival bear ride the little tricycle? ??? That is kind of what it felt like to ride the Vino. I "felt" way bigger than the scooter itself when riding it.  :o This really took some getting used to. :o

The Agility doesn't have this problem. I dont know if it is just the tire size alone, being 2 inches bigger than that of the the Vino, but the Agility 125 dosen't make you feel like your riding a mini bike. The seat height I know is taller, I can tell that by sitting on it, I can't put both feet flat on the ground like I could on the Vino, because I short, but there is a noticeable difference in the whole "size" of the ride feeling also. The suspension kinda feels "stiffer", but I'll give it a few miles to see if she loosens up a little.
So far I'm pleased with my purchase, I and I got a great deal at a Local Real Dealership, that also offered Suzuki, Artic Cat, Polaris, ect. so, I know that "if" Warrentee issues arrive, I bought at a dealer who will be there when I get there, not just an empty store front with a polite "thanks for your buck" sign hanging in the window, like  happened with the enduro I bought before. ;)
