General Discussion / Re: Earthquake!

The people were prepared for the disaster... it's the government that was not prepared for this disaster... this is the result of corruption in government... What happened after the typhoon? Meetings? press conferences? what?  The Americans were the first to act because they have an automatic response system when disaster strikes!!!... Geez, we cannot even respond quickly to a fire!!! damn!! I'm mad!!! fire trucks no gas, hydrants broken, pumps broken...Fire volunteers have more modern equipment and training...  Now, donations from 30 countries are coming in... another opportunity to steal!...  >:(

it's not all that bad vivo… preparations have been made as well as they can be…  it just really is beyond imagination -the typhoon…

anyway, the israelis were first to activate before the americans…

and the neighboring risk reduction councils were well on the ground prior…

anyway, i'm here now, will post pics when i get back to manila either later tonight or tomorrow...

yup it is….

its just sad that it had to come to this point…

driving home from work just now, i was hearing over the news about several towns which are isolated and haven't had anything since day one…

it didn't matter if they had the money, there was nothing to buy anyway…

the tragedy became an equalizer of sorts…

thanks so much boss!

i appreciate the concern… reading your exchanges with vivo in the other threads, it truly is heartwarming to get that from people like you whom we haven't even met…

it really is surreal over there on the several hard hit areas… i was just there yesterday with my group to deliver initial assistance and assess the situation over there…

preparations have been made as well as they can be made…  its just that you really can not win over mother nature….

latest estimate puts 10,000 people killed, 1800 of them now confirmed with hundreds still missing…

so sad over there…

I actually read all of the garbage to see pics that weren't there.
Richard L.

LOL… same here…  been out of circulation in a while and catching up on the forums to see pics that weren't there either…

the exchange did humor me though…

same with the other thread about the pimpy…  hahaha…

i know it's already months old, but hey… :)

you notice the people standing by the side of the road, they are volunteers, mostly senior citizens serving as signal/flag "men"… they "manage" traffic on that highway, aptly called "bitukang manok", literally translated as "chicken intestines", due to the highway's curves and bends…

anyway, these signal "men" (i quote "men" because majority of them are old women or minor children), as mentioned earlier, manage traffic by signalling among themselves if its clear to let vehicles in their vicinity pass… vehicles going up have priority of course…

these signal keepers are particularly important in the bends such as the one depicted in the pic above because one needs to drive on the opposite (incoming) side of the road to manage the curve/bend…

what's interesting here is, as i mentioned earlier that they are volunteers, drivers of vehicles passing through would toss these signal keepers with coins in gratitude for their invaluable presence…  its always an experience going through that… most would go out of their way to make sure they have enough change to "toss" to all those volunteers…

btw, these volunteers are there all day and all night…  i think they have shifts though...

Thanks Peters... The nice thing is that no looting happens to us in every disaster...

the recent catastrophe (super typhoon) to hit the central philippines saw a number of people turning into a mob in a chaos fueled by hunger, thirst and disorientation…  their primal instinct took over them to provide themselves and the ones they love with food and clothing, thus the unfortunate incident of looting of several supermarkets/malls over there…

it makes me wanna cry just watching the news…  some of them haven't had food for three to four days now…

just tragic.. :(

There is one male connector, and two female connectors down in there.

If your side stand shutoff switch is currently operational, simply unplug the male connector and plug it into the other female connector. Now your engine will run with the side stand down.

Just switch the plugs, that's why they're there, to circumvent the shutoff, or to restore its function.

Don't cut any wires, don't add any fuses, and do not, under any circumstance, dick around with any of the other sh** down in there, don't even look at it, it's off limits, you're lucky we even let you disconnect the side stand, so you better not roll that throttle to impress some hotties without you on it, or that 500X is going for a little ghost ride, and it weighs 437 pounds and will definitely f*** sh** up.

down where boss?  can't seem to find any extra female connectors either by the carb service hole or down by the side stand switch...  could it be that they don't have the extra female connector in some of 'em 500s???

not a first hand info but i've got a good friend who has been riding a people for at least four years already and he always uses it touring cross-country...  sometimes with his wife too..  though he's a bit lighter than you, i have never heard any complaints from him so far, just praises...

gas mileage is excellent too!  i see his pics he's taken during his rides and i could safely say that he is enjoying his ride...
