General Discussion / Re: Aftermarket windscreens - AK550
« on: April 02, 2025, 07:53:41 PM »
Well, yes, this is an old posting but I decided to add my two cents rather than start a new thread. Hopefully, this will be of some benefit to AK550 owners who are interested in an aftermarket windscreen. I first bought the Puig windscreen and it wasn't much improvement over the stock screen. Recently, I got the Givi sport touring screen and it's a huge improvement. There is a tradeoff however in that I have to look through the top of the screen, something I've never liked, but the wind protection is totally worth it (IMHO).

Tell us how that works for you in the rain.

People s150 / Tire comparison
« on: March 28, 2025, 11:50:12 AM »
I'm ready to pull the trigger and replace the tires on my '23 People S 150i. It currently has the stock Kendra tires (only 1100 miles). From everything I've read the Michelin City Grip 2 tires are the best to get. I'm 81 years old and want the best handling and wet weather tire available. Are the City Grip 2's the answer?

General Discussion / Re: tall screens - am I the odd man out?
« on: March 10, 2025, 06:51:39 PM »
My '23 People S 150i came with a very tall screen. I thought it was great until I got caught in the rain. I cut it down 5", and now it's perfect for me. The wind buffers over the top of my helmet, and I can see over the top of the screen in the rain. Best of all worlds for me!

I'm putting Michelin City Grip 2 tires on my People S 150 next month. Are there different tire valves available that make checking tire pressure available?.

Glad to hear that, Stig. I'm putting new City Grip 2's on my People S 150 when it gets inspected in May.

I traded my Harley in back in 2010. At that time, I was 66 and the weight of the Harley got to be too much. I bought a 2010 Kymco People 150. I quickly discovered it was too small (150cc) to keep up on the Interstates. I went to a 2012 GTI300i, and then a 2021 X-Town 300i ABS. Last fall (2023), I set the X-town down in the garage and couldn't pick it back up. Then in March of 2024, I traded it for a 2023 People S 150i ABS. I'm 81 now and love this scooter. I can run 60mph, and it handles easily as a bicycle. Quite frankly old age made me go from a motorcycle to a scooter. That being said I would never go back if I could.

You're a hardier man than me Stig! I'm 81 years old and my scooter stays in my heated garage until at least 40 degrees. When we have snow and Ice, I ride in my nice, heated Bronco Sport with heated seats and steering wheel.

Technical | How To / Brake lever question
« on: February 03, 2025, 09:54:59 PM »
I remember hearing or seeing this trick some time before. Just wondering if it works or not. As I remember it, you secure the front and rear brake levers engaged with a rope or something. You leave them like that overnight. Supposedly this gives a much more positive brake feel. I don't know if it forces any residual air out of the brake lines or not overnight. Has anyone heard of or tried this?

General Discussion / Re: Tahoe Ride for Charity

Monkey Ranger

What kind of scooter do you ride? I have been on many charity rides when I had my Harley FXSTD. Since then, I've had 4 scooters and only 1 charity ride. At that time, I had a '12 GTI 300. There were probably 300 bikes on the ride, and I think I was the only scooter. That plus the fact that parts of the ride were on the interstate going better than 70mph. If you have a smaller scooter, make sure of the course and speeds they will be doing. Unfortunately, not all motorcycle riders like scooters like we do and on some rides, you will be in the minority.

General Discussion / Re: how close is your scooter dealer?
« on: January 30, 2025, 04:35:40 PM »
I live in Syracuse, NY, and it definitely is not a Hot Spot for scooters. My closest dealer is 26 miles away. He carries several different brands but has no scooters in his current inventory. ATVs seem to be the biggest thing. Fortunately, I do my own maintenance on my People S 150i. I will go to him for my annual State inspection, and for the installation of some City Grip 2 tires this spring. I've had 4 new Kymco scooters so far. I have had one shipped from Cleveland, Ohio, and the other 3 I've commuted to pick up. Not a lot of interest or scooter owners in this area that I can see

I've had good luck with Cyclepedia manuals for my last 2 scooters. You might try them!

Xciting 500 / Re: 2007 Xciting 500 Maintenance.
« on: January 06, 2025, 08:16:55 PM »
Welcome here!
Since our beloved XC 500 under certain conditions are not really happy starters I would stick to this recommended CR8E plug.

Why: in case of NGK each number means a hotter or more moderate heatrange on your plugs tip.
CR7 is hotter than CR8, means the electrode reaches a little bit more into combustion chamber and burns oilcrusts earlier than CR8.

KYMCO engineers know what they do and recommend the best for common use.

I thought the higher number plug was hotter. Is the CR7 hotter than the CR8?

General Discussion / Re: end of year mileage check...pretty pathetic
« on: January 06, 2025, 08:10:46 PM »
Since I've been married, I've had a Harley and 4 Kymco scooters. My wife has never been on any of them. We had a pretty active HOG (Harley Owners Group) here, and I did several rides with them. It seems though there are no active scooter groups in my area (Syracuse, NY). I don't enjoy riding alone very much, and I don't enjoy riding in the cold weather. The end result is that 1000 miles in a year is a lot for me!

General Discussion / Re: Good Day Everyone, I am back again.
« on: January 05, 2025, 06:05:38 PM »
In some cases, smaller is better. I had a Harley Davidson in 2000. I sold it and bought a Kymco GTI 300i in 2012. Then I bought a X-Town 300i ABS in 2021. Last January I traded down to a People S 150i ABS. In my case, the older I got, the smaller I went. I'm 80 now and love my People. It's light weight, easy to maneuver, and has plenty of pep for me. I think the size of the scooter should be determined by your comfort level riding it. As long as you're comfortable and enjoying the ride go for it whatever the size may be.
