Super 8 / Re: i2012 kymco super 8 50cc 2t - beginning of mods

Its the hidden Idle screw   I had the same experience    I had to restrict air flow to get it started   Once I did the stock carb mod it started and idled each time.   If I leave it for several days it does take longer to start but otherwise perfect.   Here is a post I just left for someone else:
"I have a 2012 Super 8 2T.  27 MPH out of the crate.  I let it get 99 miles on the clock, did a lot of homework and luckily got it right after some minor wasted efforts.  Stop wasting your time and get the Malossi 70CC kit.  It needs this modification to get the power and speed.   It was easy to put in, about 1 hr.   I increased my main jet to a #95  and put a high volume air filter/boot.  I also used an EBay $30.00 racing variator and smooth bushing.   I now get 40 MPH easy and have had it up to 54 MPH tucked on the expressway.   I did have to pop the protective blank Idle Jet Cap and adjust it to have it start easily and idle.  That's it!   See my other Super 8 posts for carb mod pics.  The speed mainly came from the Malossi and stock carb mod

My son uses it daily for school and loves it.  600 miles on it so far"

Sinner, did you try the #110 Jet yet.   I'm still breaking mine in with under 400 miles.  I did get it up to 54MPG, Tucked, slightly downhill on the local expressway.  It was pretty funny doing it.  I don't ride like this routinely but I needed to get from point A to B and this was the best route.

42MPH on a flat road.  Great acceleration.   It took some experimentation but I got what I wanted.
Mallosi 70 CC Kit
Stock Carb with Main Jet increased to #95   YOU MUST DO IDLE SCREW MOD
Air Filter
Scooter Assassin's Variator from EBay ($26.00) with Variator Boss Modification

Don't waste your time with the CDI or exhaust change as both are un-restricted on this model and year.   Glad I also didn't need to pay 200.00 for a new Carb.  Stock with jetting and adjustments was fine.

The only additional work I plan is a Kevlar Belt because I expect to be eating mine.  The biggest issue was the carb adjustment.  I had to remove the Idle Mix Brass Screw Cover and work a slot into the screw head below so it can be adjusted.  I used a plain Hack Saw Blade to accomplish this.  This was the key to get it to Idle and start after the mods were done.  If you don't it will idle erratically and be difficult to start when cold.  I attached a Carb pic showing the screw modification.   Mission Accomplished!   Note that the scooter is now surprisingly loud because of the air filter mod.  Just as loud as if I did an exhaust mod.

PLEASE post the details and sources for the belt and Variator mod you performed.   The 45mph is my goal.

The rattle is comming from the pin hinge in the factory case.   It's a quality control issue and poor manufacture.   I could try asking Kymco to warranty it.   Thats why I wanted to know if other had seen the same with their factory boxes.

I had the Biondi, used it for 1 season and replaced it with the GIVI.   The Biondi was a bit too short and exhibited distorted optics when viewing through the curved top portion (that drove me crazy and was too scary for city driving).

I have plenty of experience sizing and cutting my windshields.  I cut mine down considerably so I never saw the weakness noted in the Just Gotta Scoot review (where his cracked).  In fact, the cut/shorter GIVI now has a stronger and better engineered mount than the Biondi.

My GT300i TOP Case hinge rattles when the bike is idling.  This is caused by free play in the hinge pin.  Is anyone else having the same issue?  Remedied?  I tried using Hot Glue to make the hinge pin assembly tighter but this only lasted for a few days.

DO NOT WIDEN THE FACTORY AIR BOX INTAKE.   With it open, the motor would die after 3/4 throttle.  Increasing the Main from a #70 Jet to a #85 didn't help.  I left the #85 main jet, restored the opening to original (with runner tube in place, and it runs fine.  Will do 34 MPH on a flat road.  I will leave it like this for now.

The 2012 and newer Super 8 50T model is a new design with different mechanical components and requirements (Motor, CDI, Wiring, Mono Shock Suspension vs Dual, etc).  One must weed through the current Super 8 Group to discover posts for this specific year/model.  An example is that I have had no responses on the 2012 model on basic mechanical questions solely related to this production yet the threads have had many views.  It would be nice to see all posts relating to the 2012/13s in one place.  Most of the current members/viewers probably have older units.

This is on a 2012 Super 8 50 T.  I removed the restrictive rubber hose from within the air-box, opened surrounding air intake on the plastic filter cover panel and now it won’t throttle past mid-range without hand choking the air flow.  If physically choked (minimally) the motor screams to high end.  The stock Main is a #70.  Does anyone have any first-hand experience with jetting on this year/model/carb before I start experimenting?

I am working on getting  out of the 27 MPH stock depression.  Located adjacent to the battery, under the floor foot rest trap door, 2012 CDI only has 6 wires, much less than older super 8s that required the cutting of one of the 8 wires.   I want to understand if a CDI mod is required.  I know about the carb jets and variator mod requirements.

They would need to accommodate the mirrors and fit over the plastic.

The price was right but the  bar side opening on these were too small.  At under $10.00 I may try to mod them

Mine is 2012.  I would imagine 2013 and beyond will be same.  It's  due to a turn-signal revision for USA scooters
