General Discussion / Roots Farm Market - Tuesdays - East Petersburg PA
« on: September 12, 2010, 10:39:29 PM »
Meeting up with a fellow scootster at Roots Farm Market this past Tuesday gave me an idea. I'm right here in East Pete, and so is Roots. Why not set up a weekly meeting with other scootsters in the area for every Tuesday at Roots.

Here's the plan. Meet at the two wheel only parking on the east side of the compound at 9am. Wander around until about 10, then at 10:30, go on a ride through some of the back roads for about an hour or so.

So, if you have a scoot or motorbike and you live in Lancaster County or nearby, meet me at Roots on Tuesday between 9 and 10:30am.

It's been anywhere from 15 to 30 degrees this past week here in Lancaster PA. Cold, but survivable. I'm thankful for my full coveralls.

General Discussion / Re: kick start

Honestly, my People 150 will not kickstart either. I've had to jumpstart it on more than one occasion. I've checked inside the CVT, and everything seems to be meshing properly, but it just won't kick.

Hills can be an issue at 125 still. I do ok on my People 150 as long as the grade isn't terribly steep. A 250 might be a better choice if you're gonna do a lot of hills though.

I added some LED's to my scoot. You can see a walkaround on my blog at http://scootinfool.blogspot.com

Here's a pic from the front (note that I made those empty light bubbles useful):

Never been, but I plan on going this year, yes. I even took the three days off from work. I've ridden with several of the guys from the Burgman USA forum. They're a good bunch.

I will say though, these longer rides are making me long for a touring scooter that I could take even further. I'm really drooling over the Xciting 500Ri...I just wish I knew what kind of storage it had.

Did you drop it on the left or right side?

Left side is the CVT, which would make sense if knocked something loose in there. Right side has the exhaust, which if the exhaust pipe got bent badly enough...well, you can probably figure that one out.

General Discussion / Re: People 150 from Lancaster PA to Westfield MA

It took a little over 11 hours and three fillups. Same for the return trip.

The P150 scoots right up hills without skipping a beat. I even have a vid on my blog of it popping right up a rather steep hill in Blandford MA that has been known to be difficult for cars to climb.

Mileage for the trip came out to about 71 mpg. not bad considering the varied terrain and traffic.

On Friday, I rode my People 150 over 300 miles from East Petersburg PA (just north of Lancaster), to Westfield MA. The route I took had me going up and down mountains. It was beautiful.

If you wanna see pics or get the whole story, it's all on me blog at scootinfool.blogspot.com

General Discussion / Re: Is the s 200 worth it?
« on: February 27, 2009, 06:00:36 PM »
In September, when I purchased my People 150, I had a choice between the 150 and the 200S. In the end, I decided for the 150 since the 200 was, as someone else suggested, 11 more cc's, 11 more pounds, and $500 more in cost. In the end, it didn't seem worth it to lay out so much more without any real advantage in speed. The 200S is also bulkier, but the storage space doesn't seem much better.

If it had a true 200cc engine in it, I would have purchased one instead of the 150. I hope Kymco wakes up to that eventually, but I doubt they will.

People 150 / Re: Headlight Modulator
« on: February 21, 2009, 03:27:13 AM »
The Previous owner of my P150 installed LED bulbs in the otherwise non-functioning lenses. They're now functioning running lights.

I've been planning on doing that myself once the weather gets nice enough for me to work on my scoot. I don't have a garage, so I can't do much at the moment. Once the weather changes, I'll get it accomplished. I also have some LED pods to put on the undercarriage. I'll be putting one on the front behind the front fender, and the other up inside in front of the engine, with a rocker switch in the glove box to disable them should I be riding in another state that doesn't allow LED lighting. Should look pretty cool once I get it all together.

General Discussion / Re: I have a Sento 50.
« on: February 20, 2009, 08:17:45 PM »
First things first, if it's still under warranty (you don't mention model year) I would check with the dealer to make sure there's nothing wrong with it (assuming you purchased it new from a kymco dealer). I can't find anything indicating that the Sento's have a speed limiter on them that would keep them to moped speeds (similar to the older Honda Metropolitan 2). There should be no reason that your scoot won't do at least 35.

It could be something simple that should be covered under the warranty.

General Discussion / Re: What made you get a Kymco?
« on: January 11, 2009, 07:07:15 PM »
I purchased a Kymco People 150 back in September for several reasons:

  • Excellent Reputation
  • Good pricepoint
  • No excessive dealer fees
  • large wheels for good stability
  • 152 cc engine just a bit larger than competitor's engines

All in all, A good scooter at a good price.
