I got my parts from many different places. I found a local(richmond,va) dealer that could order parts, kymcopartsonline.com, and ebay. I cant remember which discussion it is but someone in this forum has a link to the shop repair manuals. That was super helpful! Good luck it is a fun adventure.

Technical | How To / Bigger tire more speed?
« on: May 09, 2009, 07:46:58 PM »
I got a flat on my people 50 in the rear and took it to get fixed. They had a tire that was bigger than the what was on it(3 1/2 vs 3 1/4). I had it put on because that was all they had and didnt want to wait a week to order. On the way home I noticed that the scoot was going 45 instead of its usual 40. (the boss drive has been deristricted). Is the bigger tire increasing the speed, Or increasing the rpm ratio of the speedomiter?

This site is really awesome! I started with a bike that I knew nothing about and had little experience with engines. And now I have a kick ass kymco people 50 that runs quite well. And with the knowledge and confidence boost of the people on this site  I was able to do it myself. Thank you to all who replied! :)

I can get it to idle when I start it but after a drive it dies at idle. I tried to turn idle screw to the right or clock wise and it died before it sped up. i figured Id get advice before going any further.  Good new is this baby has got power. Im sure it has been derestricted. It will do 55 easy.

So I cleaned out the fuel tank ,put a new autocock on it (cause I broke it) ,recleaned the carb and fuel lines and put in new spark plug. and it still is dying on me. I did however make it around the block twice without it dying, but as soon as I slowed down plbbppt! dead. If it sits for a min it will start but then die and it wont start for a while. Any thoughts on what to try next?

So I took the carb off cleaned it up all purty, put it back on, started her up and she was runnin like champ. I adjusted the throttle so it was purrin like a kitten.  And then............ after about five minutes it died on me.  After that it went back to the way it was,  run for a second and then die. i did get it to run for a minute by reving the engine high but it sputtered coughed and then died. i looked for a fuel filter but all I could find is the fuel unit. Is this a filter? Any help would be grartly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

« on: January 13, 2009, 01:13:09 PM »
Just bought people 50 off craigslist for great price. The bike was banged up so I took the body apart and gave a fresh new paint job and new chrome. I put in a new spark plug and air filter. After all this when I start the bike it runs for a sec and dies. If I give it throttle it dies. The only way I can get the bike to stay running is to cover the air filter and manually choke. I have tried to play with the air and Idle screws but I dont know what Im doing so it is trial and error at best. At one point while adjusting the Idle srew gas started leaking out of the air filter cover where i was choking it. I want to learn to do this on my own but cannot find much info online. I was however able to download the service manual. it gives this 1º ± ohms as the setting for the air screw opening but I have no clue what this means. Help
