Keep your paperwork. Kymco didn't want to cover the CDI but since I had gotten the scooter registered with less than 150 miles on it, it was covered.  Must be some type of manufacturing flaw.  Glad I could find out about it on Google. Dealer replaced it and ran the scooter on the stand for 1.5 hours and no quitting. Too bad riding time is fast coming to an end for this season.

Followup.  Took the 150 to another dealer who was already a Kymco ATV dealer and took on the scooter line recently.  I told him what I've read about defective CDI units, etc.   Called me a few days ago. Said he put it on a stand and let it run. After 20 minutes, it just quit dead. He immediately checked for spark and there was none.  Turned the key off and on again, had spark. He called his Kymco tech who scratched his head but said he supposed it was possible.

Apparently there's no aftermarket CDI (other than the derestricted unit) and my scooter is still under warranty so hopefully that's covered.  I'm hoping the replacement solves the problem.

I love the scooter but quitting dead with traffic behind me is not my idea of fun.

Hope this helps someone else.

My reading at various forums sez its the CDI module. I have same problem, trying to find an aftermarket unit.

People 150 / Where to get CDI module?

I have some issues with my 2009 Kymco 150. Less than 300 miles. Took to an authorized dealer for scheduled service.  I told the service manager that the scoot just quits under power after going 1-2 miles. Wait a couple minutes and it starts like nothing happened.  They replaced the kill switch, rode it around and it quit on them. Then they called Kymco and Kymco told them it was a fuel value clogging after overfilling the tank.  They replaced the valve and said it was fixed. Got it home and it quit 3 times riding around the block even with the fuel cap off.

I want to replace the CDI module - based on my reading, it gets warm/hot and quits.  Stadium Yahama does NOT sell a generic. New OEM is $63 plus shipping.  I need a name or spec I can use on Ebay or another vendor. Any ideas?
