General Discussion / Re: OFF SHORE DRILLING SHOULD BE BANNED

I like old Beetles and old Cadillacs. I support off shore drilling. Lets burn coal.
There will never be a replacement for fossil fuels. Then again we could use our food supply to make poor fuel, after a while we won't need to worry about fuel, we all will starve to death. Give me my favorite car. A 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood with a 500ci engine. I could live in that car.

As most of us have been riding for 50 years or more we have learned a lot about traveling on the highways. I started riding on a scooter and then motorcycles and now back to scooters. each year I travel from Utah to Knoxville, TN by way of Texas, illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. I travel to many other states during this time also. My scooters have been Honda Silver Wing 600cc, Honda Reflex 250cc, Vespa ET4 150cc this my least favorite. Derbi GP1 50cc no trips longer than 60 miles one way. Burgman 650cc, My favorite "09" Kymco Agility 125cc. I rode this Kymco from Knoxville, TN to Logan, Utah. What a great ride that was. The size of the scooter has to do with the comfort you want and the speed getting to your destination. At my age, soon to be 70 yrs old I enjoy traveling the byways and all the back roads of this country. If you have no idea what roads to use, get a bicycle map for traveling cross country. The most important thing is preparation. do I need tires, do I need an oil change, is everything working perfert, do I have things for me, like medicines, GPS, cell phone, and proper tools. I take a small bag of tools that I replaced from Sears. Do not over pack, if you need more clothes buy them at a thrift shop. I have learned that we are never to old or a scooter to small that it would make us stay home and be a veggie. This year I am prepping a "06" Kymco Bet & Win 150cc. I choose this scoot for having disc brakes front and rear, liquid cooling. 12 inch tires, outside fueling port, not under the seat. This seems to be my idea 150,, traveling scooter. I will add a windshield.
Everyone have s fun summer. If you see me on the road, wave hi or come and talk scooters.

Give me a Ford Mustang any day. Most of the Euro's High performance cars are high maintenance.

Agility 125 / Can the Agility go further the 100 miles?
« on: September 05, 2012, 05:07:56 AM »
I was visiting my brother in TN near Knoxville and as we past a Yamaha dealer I saw a sign that read " 09 Kymco Agility 125, $1,500.00"
I yelled at my brother to turn and lets go back and look at these scooters.
Went into the shop and these Agility's were new out of the box. This was in 2010. I bought one for $1,500.00 OTD.  I began making the Agility road worthy to haul me back to Utah. I rode every day till I had 300 miles on it.
I changed the oil and the rearend to Lucas full Synthetic. Added a power plug for my GPS and a homemade rear rack that attached to my rear rack.
I added a windshield and installed a new Halogan light bulb. Also a NKG Iridiam spark plug. I had the seat recovered to try to lower it. no worky, but I did have memory foam put in.

Everyone was laughing at me as I left my brothers drive and pointed myself towards Utah. running WOT at a blazing 50MPH and 72MPG. The scoot did great, I was having a time of my life. I am to old to be in a hurry. I ride back roads or you can get a bicycle map. 2,500 mile later and 9 days I am home. I made a few stops to see family and friends along the way.
I put the Kymco to the test at 12,000 feet over the rockies.
Not one problem on the entire trip.

General Discussion / Re: Helmet law
« on: September 05, 2012, 02:48:55 AM »
W#hen I started riding scooters back in 56 I think, I was always told to wear a helmet. 54 years later I was checking out my ET4 for a trip from Utah to TN to see my brother. To check the load I road around the block and the scoot was handling great. I was near the highway and was thinking that I should go back to get my helmet. But I said to myself is just a short ways down the road and come back home. At 55mph the scoot ran great and as I was coming home I lost control of my scooter. I was told at the hospital after I came to 7 hours later and surgery that I should be dead.
The left cheek bones are replaced with steel plates. My eye was removed to clean the rocks behind it and then replaced. took two weeks before the eye began to open. Now I am home with every bone in my body hurting and don't forgrt about the head aches that keep you awake at night.
No trip for me this year. I will always have reminder to wear my helmet. I was only 1/4 miles from my house.

DRILL  DRILL  DRILL
Gas equals horsepower. There is nothing on this planet better than oil. Corn??? nope we just make more hungry people.  We had cars in the old days that got the same mileage as cars do today. I prefer gas in my scooter. The whole world on the same milage from cars???? LOL LOL LOL.
If the government is involved it will never work. Their motto is " If its not broke fix it till it is"
70% of our oil comes from Canada.  10% comes from the U.S. and 10%
 Mexico.
The rest comes from different sources
The U.S. sells our oil overseas.
