People 150 / They cap the air-fuel screw!
« on: September 30, 2012, 06:10:14 AM »
I opened up my new People 150 today to tune the carb and remove the emissions junk, and saw that they do in fact cover the air fuel screw.  Apparently it has to do with emissions.  Anyway, my scooter was running slightly lean.  It was jetted correctly, but it felt like it was getting too hot, and ran a little rough.  So we busted off the cap, drilled a hole into the screw, which allowed us to stick a star bit in there to adjust it.  A better way is to use a dremel to carve out a line, so you can use a flat head screw driver, but we didn't have a dremel.

To all y'all who have had trouble tuning your carbs, this is probably why.  You can change jets for days, but it will never be spot on until you adjust the air fuel ratio along with it.  To do that you'll need to pop the cap.

Sounds like your idle jet might be too small.

I'm gonna start rocking the mirrors off a Super 8.  They're bigger and give a better image.

People 150 / Re: Kymco People 150 - Exhaust. Aftermarket?
« on: September 25, 2012, 03:45:57 PM »
So you know-any aftermarket exhaust is going to be a straight through pipe, meaning it will be much louder than stock.  I'm not sure how loud the NHRC pipe is, but generally we're talking loud enough that you're doing damage to your ears, without plugs.

Kycmo is gy6 based.  Most gy6 mufflers and headers will fit your p150; bracket points might be different.  Spend at least 250 on an exhaust. Guaranteed you will end up spending more than 300 dollars, on 100 dollar exhausts, because they will break.  Even a 250 dollar exhaust will end up breaking. Unless you have a welder, spend the 300 outright and save yourself a headache; or just get a stable quiet pipe and go stock.

Here's the best aftermarket muffler.  http://www.scooterelements.ecrater.com/p/15893679/vento-hurricane-150-vale-complete-exhaust

Just remember, when you put a new exhaust on your engine will be breathing better, and therefore be running lean.  Do not run your engine lean.  This will cause your parts to heat up faster and hotter.  Increase the main jet before you even run it.  Then continue to rejet until it's right.

People 150 / Re: Where to get CDI module?
« on: September 25, 2012, 03:34:33 PM »
A CDI without a rev limiter won't make your scooter rev any higher than it already does.  Some stock CDI's even come without a limiter.  You have to get a new camshaft to get the maximum revs up any higher.

That said, here's the best place to buy anything for your scooter.  Their prices beat everyone's, and they ship faster and for free.

I've found the best way tune a carb is to buy a set of ten main and ten idle jets, and go up or down by two to five thousandths.  The other way is to use drill bits to slowly increase your jet size.  Sometimes going from (for example) a 117 to a 120 is enough to put it too rich.  It's a balancing process between the idle and the main jet.  You get one where you think it's good, then adjust the other until it's just right; then adjust your air fuel mixture and get your idle screw set.  Often after you get your main somewhere good, then change your idle, you'll realize your main needs more work.  Keep track of each move, and eventually it will work out.  Plus there's the needle which can be leaned or richened.

You can definitely increase top speed on a Gy6, and yes RPMs are important, but it's all about getting these engines to breathe.

You need only to jet and adjust to tune a carb.  Any popping indicates you're running too lean, or if you go wide open and it feels like a complete loss of power.  Avoid running lean at all costs.  Hesitations in acceleration indicates it being too rich.

What happens when you're in the mid powerband and you pull full throttle?

Thanks for the info.  Dr. Pulley variator is nearly identical to mine.  Impact guns have always worked for me, as long as it has a good amount of torque.  15g is pretty heavy.  Let me know what you get out of em.

It'd put it up around 175cc.  I'm looking for top speed.  I found out that a stock cylinder on a P150 is over $200 dollars, meaning they gotta be top notch quality.  I really don't wanna crack the perfectly sealed crankcase either.

I was running that 30mm carb without a kit and it was so-so.  It had great acceleration and would get up to 40-50 mph at about half throttle.  The problem was without the extra velocity it had awful throttle response.  I had to ease into the throttle to get up to speed.

I've got a Motorio variator that I'd like to throw in.   Are the gy6 Variators the same as the people 150's?  I've read they're slightly different.

People 150 / Gy6 big bore kit?
« on: September 22, 2012, 06:17:41 AM »
I totaled my Chinese gy6 and upgraded to the P150.  I'm looking to cruise at 60-65 mph and am trying to decide if I should throw my kit in there.  It's a NCY 62mm cylinder kit, and a Taiwanese 62mm head.  I fear I'll be cracking the crankcase just to put in inferior metal, therefore disrupting the longevity/reliability. Plus I'll have to install an oil cooler.

I'm planning on a Two Bros exhaust; and I want to get rid of the air box, because those are just ugly.

Other than that I have an NCY intake and an OKO pullslide carb, that wouldn't go in unless I kitted it.

I'm thinking skip the kit, throw on the pipe, up jet, and maybe tune the variator and call it good.  What do y'all think?
