People 50 / Re: Brand New People 50 2011 Derestricing advice
« on: April 22, 2013, 05:03:29 PM »First off, welcome to the forum newscooter.
You have a lot to learn. I was naive once too . Not sure this Peters guy knows what he is talking about
Is that a 2t people? What year model is it (Reference for other members)?
First off, if your scoot is brand new you need to break it in for the first 500 miles and then take it to be serviced if you want to keep that warranty. We'll get into that. But the usual break in procedure... avoid WOT and keep the rpms down, and for gods sake let the thing warm up when cold. Only takes a minute or two.
You should know that if you plan on modifying or even just servicing your scoot yourself you're going to void that warranty right away. I know bummer . If you have lots of money and don't have a problem with your dealer holding your scoot for a few days at a time by all means take it there. Me... I said f$$$ the warranty when the dealer charged me $250 to change the gear oil, spark plug, and clean the air filter. So that's that.
If you were able to swallow that last pill we'll move on. Changing jets or cleaning the carb is no big deal at all. Nothing to be scared of. Just take your time the first time. Have a clean work area. As far as going to a larger jet, first ask your dealer if they installed a larger jet when they took the CVT boss out. If not it's okay. I wouldn't worry about it until after the break in. Where to buy jets? lol, good luck. Your dealer might be able to get them.
Now the Exhaust. A lot of people here have Tecnigas exhaust. Good pipes but not the best. Great for the price anyway. The Tecnigas Next R is what I have. RS2 is better for BBK. I was like you and doubted I would ever put a BBK on... Yeah... Anyway, the other middle-class brand is Leo Vince. They make exhaust for lots of bikes and people swear by them. I just know most people here have Tecnigas.
I've given you enough to think about. Kymco makes an awesome scooter. Treat it well and it will treat you well. Have fun and most importantly be safe. Stick around the forum...
Hi. Thanks for replying Peters.
It's a 2011 which is the last year they made this 2t people.
Wow, for $250 for a service, the warranty is looking less and less impressive. I'll probably just service it myself. The closest authorized dealer to me is about 45 minutes away.
I live in Kinston. Small town between New Bern and Goldsboro.
As far as the exhaust, did you have to do any mod's to your technigas exhaust? Or is it ready to go from the factory?
Thanks for the good info about the 500 mile break-in rule of thumb. I didn't realize that. I'll be gentle with her.
To be honest, I haven't even started it up yet. I serviced the battery and and installed it, but I was getting ready to throw a birthday bash for my girl when it was delivered Saturday. Let's just say I'm just now getting back to normal.
I'll probably take her on her maiden voyage tomorrow morning some time.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me make sure she's in tip-top shape.
