You can download the entire Service repair manual here: https://kymco.at/pub/media/Download/Kymco/NEWDowntown350iABS.pdf

Code 66 refers to the Crankshaft Position Sensor, which is located on the right side of the engine, just where the wires insert into the round crankcase cover on the top. If this is faulty then the bike won't be able to start most or all of the time.

If that is the case then why is mine starting and running without any problems? Are we saying eventually something with the crank is going to happen, go bad? I am under the impression that if a CPS (crank position sensor) goes bad it wont start but mine is doing fine...Hmmmm!

Does anyone know what code 66 represents? I ran the self diagnostics on the bike and it kicked out a '66'....I can't find that anywhere in my repair manual.

How to reset the CELP engine light - see the photo attached.

Thank you Mouse for that. I wonder why that page isn't nowhere to be found in my repair manual? But I will try that. I am sure it just needs to be reset since there are no codes and it runs great! Thank you again!

CEL.on:
-first measure:
both battery cables off
hold them together for a few seconds
leave them off for a while
Then we look further.
I supect this 4pole cable to your heat sensor on your muffler. But we will see.

Thank you. Will try that

Kill switch?
Brake light on when you pull lever?
Stig

Update as of 2:27pm central time, she's alive...but.....I discounted all the connecters to the injector and ISC, this and that and reconnected everything and she started right up! Runs great! You can always feel when you put new parts on your bike. But now the CELP is on..solid, not flashing but not throwing out any codes....and she runs great! Could the cpu need time to reset because I did disconnect everything, including battery? ::) I have the repair manual and since no codes are being tossed I am at a loss...but Im riding with a smile! 8)

I am having trouble with "it cranks but doesn't turn over" statement. I am easily confused living in the deep south since these people use "it won't crank" means among 1. The engine won't start but the starter spins the engine 2. The starter WON'T spin the engine and  3. The thing just "clicks" when starting is attempted. There are variations and permutations of these three descriptions that are all covered by "it won't crank."

Which one of the three covers your situation?

I have all the new parts back on, belt, rollers and it is reassembled, torqued to specs. Bike cranks, motor turns over. Battery meters out at 13.5, so I rule out charging system. I can put the socket wrench on the variator nut and turn the motor. I am getting spark to the plug. I am sensing a fuel delivery problem??? I smell no gas as it is cranking and I am opening up the throttle WFO. Looks like I'll be removing a lot of plastics to get the the fuel system parts....Oh joy! I just LOVE when I have to do that.... >:( :-\ :'(!!!

Yes, I usually do it with two c- clamps on  the workshop bench.

I will do that if and when the clutch needs replacing. Good idea!

To be honest Stig I have never disconnected any ground wire from anywhere on the bike except the battery ground cable. If it cranks but doesnt turn over is it possible that the engine is locked up..I know its a wild speculation but when those two rollers exploded I wonder what other damage could have happened??? Guess I'll need to wait until complete reassembly before making any other diagnosis. Thank Stig.

Thanks to all for your inputs, the forum members never fail! I have another question....

If all of the guts are removed from the transmission housing (variator assy, clutch assy) will the bike not start? I have all the stuffings out and went to start it and it wont start? It was running fine, with the exception of rollers and belt going bad. Does it need to be reassembled with all moving parts before it will start?

Thank you all again for your wisdom and insight. This forum has made owning my DT300i well worth it!

The job for replacing clutch only and not whole assy looks like an easy do but I am hesitant due to the fact that I have no spring compressor to keep that spring from shooting off and putting me in a coma...But until I reassemble unit after roller replacement ( I actually had 2 rollers that had the plastic surround ring break apart) I am going to hold off on any clutch replacement parts until needed as I am sure if it sat there for 7 years, a few more days isn't going to make a difference...but Murphy's law????

My local Kymco dealer has offered to sell me a NOS clutch replacement assy part # 2301A which is the full assembly minus the bell housing that has been sitting on his parts shelf for about 7 years and he's begging me to PLEASE buy it off his shelf..asking price, $275 out the door, seems like a fair deal to me.

My question is this: If the springs are broken inside the clutch housing will there be a rattling sound when you remove it and shake it? I have not received my new rollers yet from my buddy Jingyu in Taiwan but expect them any day now and was wondering since it's all apart, should I go ahead and invest the $275 and replace clutch assy while I have it all apart?

At the moment the clutch "looks" fine, it's tight, there are no noises when shaking it and I am not in tune with replacing a part that might never need it for the life of the bike. On the other hand, much like insurance and a good lawyer, sometimes it's better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

I guess I won't know clutch condition until I get it all re-assembled with the new belt and rollers and give it a whirl.

Yes Stuo,

I believe many of us here have experienced going the "cheaper" route was not a great idea. I did early on and since will not use anything other than Kymco parts, regardless of price difference with an aftermarket. That is not to say other after market products for the DT 300i are bad or less superior but I am not going to chance it again.

You are right about those two brands but even they are 25mm, and not 24mm. And of course the generics run almost half of what a genuine Kymco packaged belt will run. The one I got from a supplier in Taiwan was $135, shipping included and I got it 2 weeks faster than had I ordered it right here in Fort Worth, Texas from the dealer where I originally purchased my 2012 DT300i. If anyone has used a generic, Dayton, Gates or other brand 25mm please expand on your experience.

The part number I have from a genuine Kymco belt is 23100-LEA7-E00, but an E01 is the new part number that also covers the J-300 and DT300i. I am not saying the 25mm wont work, but I wouldn't trust it as far as wear and tear on your mechanical parts. I put one on and the bike acted "funny" and so I waited until original Kymco belt arrived and the difference was most notable. All the so called replacement belts I have seen online that are not Kymco (Dayton, Gates, Bando, etc, etc) are 25mm and claim to be a direct replacement but since they are 1mm wider, I do not understand why they can't get it right.
