General Discussion / Re: What type of helmet do you ride with?

Please remember the "Robbo  Theory":  More is better

IMO: The higher the price for a helmet,  the better you are off.

Ruben

If more was better, we wouldn't be riding scooters

When people ask me what helmet to get I tell them to buy the helmet that they will actually wear every time they get on the bike. That's the best one. The one hanging from the back of the bike or that you will skip putting on to go down to the corner store because it is uncomfortable is no good.

I had a Bajaj Chetak (150cc, four stroke, four speed) that would pull 85 mpg commuting daily and once got 103 mpg on a group trip of 500 miles. That was cruising steady at 45-50 mph on 90 degree days. It had a small windshield, which actually helped the mileage.

The new Stella 150 four-strokes get over 100 mpg also, about the same power as my old Chetak (8 hp)

Royal Enfields (500cc) will pull 85 mpg also and they have hydraulic lifters and an auto chain tightener now.

I know that theoretically the CVT's are supposed to get better mileage (the engine should be able to run at optimum efficiency), but my experience is not. Maybe they have to be "tuned" for mileage where many scooters run a little lighter weights for more bottom end power.

General Discussion / Re: Used S200 or new Like 200i?
« on: June 09, 2013, 03:23:58 AM »
I'm looking at a 2009 People S200 with 5600 miles and trunk, asking price is $1800. Or, a new Like 200i for about twice that.

I'm leaning toward the S200 because of the price. Any thoughts?

If you're not concerned with riding a certain style bike, look around for a used 250 People. About the same price as a used s200, there are a lot of them around and you get a water-cooled 250cc engine that can pull freeway speeds if need be.

General Discussion / Re: Summer riding jackets?
« on: June 09, 2013, 03:15:23 AM »
I have a Corazzo mesh jacket now. It's OK, but I've already had to do a little sewing on it in less than a year of riding. My Joe Rocket mesh jacket was much better quality and cost less.

I've been using a Bell Mag 9, it is a 3/4 with a flip-up sun and windscreen. When it gets real cold I use a full face flip up.

I've tried 1/2 shells and full shells in the past and always seem to go back to 3/4 for my daily ride. It's a nice compromise between protection, visibility and getting a little of that wind in the face feeling.

My People s 250 runs better with the iridium. My old jeep prefers cheap walmart parts. I vote for iridium for modern scoots.

I used a Harbor Freight electrictric impact wrench. Under $50 with the easily available 20% off coupon. You'll need the correct socket though. Also cheap at Harbor Freight.

I used a t10 socket with amber LED's, wired to to the license plate bulb. Kind of a long run for wires, but I didn't have to worry about screwing up any of the headlight wiring when tapping into power that way. Worked great.  People s 250

I was missing my little screw cover for the front cowl on my People s250, so the Optimus Keychain is the replacement. It seems right.

Fairly new issue from Lambretta I think.
Don't tease me.

I've been going to Scooterville over a decade now (since they opened). Always good service. I didn't realize that they did mail order since it's by my work. Great shop.
