With the gas cap off, look into the tank.  You see that bar which runs across about 3" down?  That is the fill line.

1/4" down from the cap is overfilled.  Many of us here (including myself) did this on our first fill-up, scrambled to the forum, and learned what the owner's manual doesn't tell us.

The tanks are so small that I seem to remember it filling so fast that I actually has gas overflow from the tube!  I just couldn't believe that my tank went fron 1/4 to full on $5.50 (canadian)!!!

Ride safe!

Ditto from Canada,

Stig, I know you tried sea-foam but I wanted to suggest a product marketed specifally for cleaning fuel injection systems - any one of them should do. Please forgive me if your sea-foam is just that.

Also, have you tried dropping in the old copper spark plug?  Just a troubleshooting step from your friendly neighborhood computer tech.

All else fails make the dealer fix it!

Hey Stiggie,

Things good for me up north.  I got a new job this year and with my side business keeping me busy I dont post much.  Nearly 7000kms on my 2013 like.

I enjoyed your review of the dr pullys so I got a set of my own (same weight) and found them to be amazing (gained a bit top end).

My next project will be installing a performance exhaust. What are your thoughts on installing one made for "150cc gy6" engines. I cant seem to find one for "163cc gy6"  ;)

I also had a foot peg problem...
AND a two flasher CELP.

My right side peg did not deploy. I took it out (not easy) and discovered the spring for deploy was snapped. The spring for the button was fine.  It took some doing but I found a peg on ebay from someone parting out a whole bike, I dont see it there anymore so warranty would be your best option, price wise...

I had what I thought was 2 blinks from the CELP. It was actually one (I think).  When you first turn the key to on it will light for a moment to say "hey the lamp works".  Then it would go off then on again.  I checked the service manual and one blink has to do with engine temp. so I knew this was wonky as it happened cold.  The manual describes how to clear the CELP codes (it only works if the problem is not really there.)

1) On center stand with kill switch set to run, turn key to on position.
2) Wait 10 seconds
3) Open throttle fully
4) Hold throttle open for 10 seconds
5) Close throttle
6) Turn key to off

Done.

Try turning it on and you should get a 2 second light from the CELP and then nothing.  If not there is an issue.

Ride safe!

I look back on my first few weeks of riding the Like and find myself giggling.

I'm sure I was rigid with the controls, but that's not what sticks in my mind...

Whenever I would get up to speed (60km/hr+), I would clench my legs and apply downward force to the floorboard. It made me feel more secure. I did this without realizing it mind you. After parking for the day I noticed my legs were a little sore.  The next day when I got up to speed I clenched, and wow I felt those muscles ache.  I think I still do it but my legs have been conditioned now after 5000 kms or so.

The worst part for me was my neck. For the first few weeks my neck got pretty sore. Adjusting to wearing a helmet was hard.  It didn't stop me from riding though.  As soon as I'm on the road all pain and worries disappear.  "Like" morphine!

After about 3 weeks of riding all symptoms disappeared and I was physically stronger. So if you find yourself a little sore, hit the road till the pain goes away!

Thanks for the prompt and precise reply, guru   ;D

I was going to remove the "bar step assembly" last night but it was getting dark and I didn't have time to remove all those panels. I'll probably do it today. (Soooo many things to remove)

If it is broken then I will certainly be stopping by the dealer.  I really hope it is just "askew". I also am in the "ride-over-wrench" phase.  While tinkering is fun, we only do it for the ride!

I actually did remove that belt cover once, so far.  It was quite the scene.  It was so much harder than I thought.  That cardboard gasket really didn't want to let go.  Lets just say that my neighbors thought I was trying to destroy my bike with a brick and a 2 x 4!! I had to tell them that I am a professional and never to try this on their vehicles, at least not sober.

I took several photos in order to string them together but found afterward that they couldn't quite provide a thorough overview of the process.  I'll get in there again if you really want that video.

I wish you luck on the seat.  I recently re-apolstered 6 dining room chairs.  It was not easy, and the shapes were regular with even foam for each piece. I am inclined to think the Like seat is a super pain in the ass to re-do....it sounds unnecessary but I would suggest stapling just 4 spots (front/back/sides) and then cutting most of the excess away. Always pull tight TIGHT and staple opposite from the last staple, always pulling tight. (Rather than going around).  Do every staple like this, it takes a while but the result is tighter and smoother edges. This is just a tip in case you dont already do it like this.  I find with less excess fabric to pull it sure is more difficult but you end up with little to no of those folds around the edges.

Ride safe and have fun.

LIKE 200i / Passenger Peg Not Deploying With Button
« on: September 01, 2013, 05:28:03 AM »
So I was taking a cruise with the little lady and as usual I inspect and spot clean during a good 3 minute engine warmup.

Naturally, when I'm about to sit on I deploy the pegs for my wife.  Well as I lean down to press the right-side foot-peg release button nothing happens...So I walk around and try again...still not.

So I press the button in and pull the peg out with a finger.  When I push it back in it clicks like normal but I notice it has lots of wiggle to it.  The bolt holding it in place is still tight mind you.

The spring action is not there.  There is zero resistance to return the peg to its fold-in position. (a cat running from Stig happened to brush its tail on it and it slammed shut)

Anyone know what type of spring mechanism we're dealing with here?  I sure hope its just something I need to slide back into a notch 8)  Of course I scoured the service manual twice and couldn't locate a detailed drawing of the passenger pegs.

Welcome!

I also have the grey Like (200i).  Depending on the colour of your roads you may wish to consider some reflective gear. This is true of course for any scooterist, but us greys look like floating heads in the right conditions.  8)

I am about to roll over 4800 kilometres (3000 miles for you yanks), and she gets better with each day.

Ride safe and have fun!

If your spedometer reads mph as the dominant measurement (larger numbers), then your odometer is in miles.

I believe you guys in the States have both kph and mph on the speedo, but the mph are displayed larger on the outer ring.

In Canada we only have the kph on the speedo for the Like.

Congrats on the new Like!

Myself, I live in a garden home / townhouse with a communal parking lot which I do not use.  Every night I wheel my girl to the backyard.  We have ground level patio stones so its nice and stable.

The week before I bought the bike I installed a 4 camera surveillance system.  They are infrared with amazing night vision. They also have a motion sensor alarm that wakes me up once in a while when an animal scurries around back there (also a spider once that was building a web near the lens.)

If you've ever seen infrared cameras at night you know how intimidating they can look.  Every inch of my property is covered and the cameras cover each other as well and have a tamper alarm anyway.

Needless to say I have not had any issues so far, aside from the neighborhood beasts and bugs!

If you live in a single detached I bet the backyard with a good lock is enough....if you live in the states you could also put up a big warning sign about tresspassers being shot ...  ;D

Good thread.

Since in Ontario, Canada - where I have my motorcycle license,  the Like is not considered a restricted speed, I will be expected to take it on a 100km/hr highway at some point during the full driving test.

I have gotten to 100km/h a few times but it took a while to get there from 90...

I dont really care to cruise around at that speed, and I feel it performs best at 80km/hr one up, and at 70km/hr two up.

I would however like to be able to cruise at 80 going two up without it feeling the least bit sluggish.

About the airflow restrictor, I have removed it and really didn't like how it sounded and felt it lost some pep. I also did not notice any gain on top speed WOT. I put it back....

BUT if I had an exhaust that didnt kill the horsepower with back pressure I think the airflow restrictor would really need to be out.

Larger rear tire is a great idea, as is slightly lighter rollers or sliders.  Of course the exhaust is probably going to make the biggest difference.  So, has anyone ordered Iit yet?

It's rainy season and lots of wet and slippery roads... Kymco OEM tires are very slippery when wet and I strongly suggest you change to better tires ASAP... I got Mizzle brand tires that are very sticky even when wet... P3,100.00 for both... there are more expensive brands though...  ... I'm saying this because I think it's a priority for a newb... mahirap na sumemplang bro, kahit maingat...

I rode in a severe thunderstorm today and traffic forced me to go about 40-44mph on a stretch of winding road for about 10 miles.  I still have the stock tires on but only experienced a minor slip, when turning on to the road. I had found myself in the middle if the lane during the turn.  Throughout the drive I stuck to the "tire tracks" and didnt slip at all.

Now I'm not saying these tires are great or anything, but its just as important to avoid driving in the middle of the lane as it is to have great tires....especially when its wet and raining.

I want new tires soon, but I dont want to spend more than $150 for the pair, any suggestions?
