Downtown 300 / Re: Belt for DT 300
« on: May 14, 2013, 11:41:55 PM »
Scoot belt prices??? I priced belts(name brands, seriously who else makes belts?) for my Kawasawki Mule UTV & they varied from $100+ to $39. Why are scoot belts so high?

Downtown 300 / Re: Valve clearance
« on: May 14, 2013, 11:39:31 PM »
Are you being tongue in cheek?-I doubt very many people can set a valve clearance on any machine to within the .00079mm difference in the values mentioned above? ;D

.12mm minus .10mm = not so much...

You can go to O'Reilly AP's and buy a "loud horn" for ~ $13-15 like whats shown . Google Fiamm horns to see the models & the DB's they put out. I see no need for a larger horn with a trumpet on it for smaller vehicles as there are lots of small loud ones on the cheap.

;)  Rosie was purchased new 2007 without
tax, license and title fee she was $ 3100. In Central Minnesota.

Thanks Carol but "what is Rosie"?
I will reiterate that for this thread to be a source of useful info it needs to have the model of scoot, dealer location & when purchased & not include variables such as taxes -only those "fees" like dealer paperwork, freight & add ons that others would pay if they bought from that dealer, no matter where they live & pay their taxes. I don't mean to sound unappreciative but a deal made in 2007 is old stuff in the vehicle world. ???

BTW, why doesn't our location show in the info box(like all other forums) with each post?

If you like reading about Dyna Beads then go to BMW MOA Forum and a thread under Motorrad is currently alive. There is a link there to what appears to be a similar product. The comments in that thread have the usual doe of praise & pessimism for the magic beads.

Please don't take this the wrong way  :) : Honestly, if there is visual evidence that your oil "needed" changed at those ridiculously short intervals then you have an engine problem & changing oil won't "fix it"- otherwise a clear case of overkill. Perhaps there was something "seen with the naked eye" (you were the one there to know) but to do the change that many times & "see something" is saying something is coming apart. That's different than casual debris from manufacturing.
They may "throw these scoots together"but I suspect it's real clean where it takes place & parts are  likewise.

Roadgear sells MC gear & bags & I use their larger bag on longer trips-it comes with made on bungee's ending in strong plastic hooks that I fasten to bungee loops placed (Aerostitch)on my BMW OEM sidecases as attachment points. I never use the rain cover as they take elements very well and are super strong too. It's possiblr their smaller bag will fit the "tunnel" on a scoot quite well?
Nice to see the Germans have their head on straight & building a side case frame for a scoot being advertised as a tourer. Likes been said, "it's about time"! It appears to be a clean & easy design too.

Phillipines style inflation reminds me of NG article this month about Zimbabwe which has had interest in billions of a % & they picture a $bill$ which is in the trillions denomination! Yours are closer to Mexico's example before they changed their peso some years back.

I'll throw this pricing tidbit in, having just read a dealer ad & it says that from 1/2013 until June 2013 Kymco is discounting $100 under 150cc & $200 over 150cc for active, reserve,National guard & separated military. My question is r.e. the "separated"(as in how recently do you have to be out, or does it matter?)- that's a large group of us vets that might qualify???

I'd like to hear how much you paid for a new Kymco scoot? Please state your location, scoot model & amount paid. Don't include sales tax as it varies by state/region but do include title or other "dealer" fees that anyone would pay.If you traded then the numbers are of little use to me or others. My particular interest is in the People GT 300i or Downtown models. They are commonly discounted & I'm simply looking for the best deal to be had within a reasonable distance.

People GT 300i / Re: GTI Speeds
« on: May 09, 2013, 11:30:07 PM »
I have never taken my GTi300 past 75mph (I'm a wussy) I don't feel comfortable cruising @ those speeds. But it felt like it have more left over after 75mph. 28.7HP is impressive. Plenty of torque, which is what I want!
Call me curios, is a wussy a female wuss? You people remind me of my students asking me all the time how fast my MC would go.

As a current MC tourer that's looking at a switch to a scoot I have several questions from the above comments. Will a scooter electrical system (which ones specifically!?) handle my Gerbings heated jacket? Will a scoot battery run most small elec air pumps like many MC riders already own? Boo, I saw your tire repair kit-is it a better functioning repair than my Stop n Go plugger? Or is it better than the Wally World style plugs?- I actually like them better than the fancy one I bought!
The seat issue & the how fast issue are one thing but the electrics are another plus the side case or not luggage question I've got. I'm not riding a scoot to Mexico with  helmet storage & an underwear ::) change! I have riding jackets & rain gear & cold weather gloves and more. I travel as light as anyone you've ever met but in the winter it takes some serious STUFF! to get  to the border through cold weather then ride a long ways in the tropics. I have lots of questions on scoots!  :)

In my humble opinion.
Can be purchased online or at any decent bike shop.
Where is OZ?.

There are two of "those places", "called OZ"-I'm from the one in the middle, Kansas. He's from Australia thus reason for asking where to buy?

I've been using them on MC's for ~ 10 yrs to good result. I bought mine in a group buy on ADV Rider for much less. I have never had an issue with the valve stem.  I reuse mine & it's easy to do-just dump on a piece of plastic or a newspaper. I reweigh them-buy a electronis scale on ebay from China-mine was under $10 & weights up  to 76#'s in small increments too. Accuracy matches my USPS scale nearby. On MC forums they are controversial but many users like me that are long time riders & know how to mount a tire/balance,etc.. It is important to rotate the tire on the rim as it may balance itself by positioning! Another factor is that tires wear unevenly & don't stay in perfect balance with conventional weights but do with the magic beads. Read Dyna beads comments on low profile tires not working-I've wondered about scoot tires?
Whats the speed rating on various scoot tires?

As some time has passed since this home grown side case frame solution-is there a factory made side case frame available for Givi or Shad for any Kymco scoot? Or any other brand? On long trips I live out of my top case & side cases. I also carry a Roadgear brand  Cordura bag(very good stuff!) on the pillion seat and a Wunderlich magnetic tank bag. I have been surfing the web for a couple months and seen not much for scoot side case solutions. They are common as dirt on MC's & some of these scoots are sold for touring-I know how to travel light but the under seat storage doesn't match up to what I'm used to.
