General Discussion / Re: 125 cc Redlining
« on: February 10, 2014, 10:44:27 AM »
Hi thesurgeonistherobot and Vivo,

I'm the second owner. The bike had only just been run in (around 1200 miles) when I bought it in May 2013 and to date it hasn't been modified in any way. I've been quoted GBP£42.00, around US$69 including 20% UK VAT to buy and fit a new front sprocket with one extra tooth, which is okay I think. Will fitting a new sprocket effect the speedometer at all, do you know? ::)

Hi thesurgeonistherobot,

Yes, definitely in top - 5th gear. The Pulsar does have a tacho' and you can proceed to ride on into the red and reach around the manufacturers given speed of 60 - 65 MPH while in the red.  Here's how the manufacturer describes the engine power, 8.0 Kw @ 8500 Rpm.

The tacho' starts to redline at 8000 Rpm.

I have been told that to solve this I can fit a new front sprocket with one extra tooth. :-\

Hi, I have a Kymco Pulsar LX 125 cc motorcycle. I have noticed at around 50 mph in top gear (5th) it's already beginning to redline. According to Kymco the bike  has a top speed of around 60-65 mph in top gear. So, surely it shouldn't start to redline until around 60-65 mph in top gear. Is anyone able to comment on this please. ::)

Hi the thesurgeonistherobot,

Yes your right, I forgot to put the drive-chain. Many thanks for your reply. The motorcycle has now had a new drive-chain and front and rear sprockets because having driven it with a loose chain for too long.

Technical | How To / Re: LX 125cc start and idle problem

Hi again Vivo,

I have tried mixing some Fuchs (Silkolene) PRO fuel system treatment in with the fuel, mixed at about a 2% ratio. I have only used a mix once with about 4 litres of fuel so far and this seems to have improved the problem a little. Which leads me to think that it may well be the idle jet as you have suggested.

I haven't got the time at the moment to dig deeper than this but I will let you know how things proceed.

Once again many thanks. 8)

Technical | How To / LX 125cc start and idle problem
« on: May 17, 2013, 10:16:02 AM »
The engine is hard to start, even when the temperature isn't below about 7 C = 44 F. When started it runs for around 30 seconds and cuts out and once started again there's a smell of fuel. The choke isn't used during this start procedure and if it is, the engine won't start at all.

The engine when started doesn't run unless the throttle is held at around 2200 RPM until it warms up thouroughly. If the rev's are dropped during the warm up, the engine stalls.

I don't know what the idle speed is for a warmed up engine on the LX 125cc, I would imagine it should be around 1500 - 1800 RPM. The engine on this bike at the moment doesn't like running below 2200 RPM and even then seems to be seeking more revolutions to keep idling.

Any help on what's causing this is greatly appreciated. :)

Hi,

Once having cleaned the sponge type air filter on my 2010 Kymco Pulsar LX 125cc, do I need to oil it? :-\
