Technical | How To / Japanese cdi
« on: July 14, 2013, 08:07:15 AM »
Has anyone put a jap bike cdi into a kymco. I was told these cdi's are a better product over any Chinese makes that's why there's no performance improvement exept removing the rev limiter on some models with the Chinese after market cdi's. I'm more interested in the timing side. I'm sure a race ready motor x bike verses a road and trail (road registered )cdi unit would be completely two different units.
Any thoughts and ideas would be good.thanks.

I got about 8kph out of welding up the exhaust more info on this in the tech/how to posts I've just added some pics to.after the exhaust mod I needed the 82 jet.then after porting the inlet manifold I went up to a 90 jet I'll post more on this in a couple off weeks still waiting on a carby so as to post all results in one post. Do the exhaust mod and you won't look back.

Sorry I forgot I had this pic, I cut the back of the muffler of just to have a look at the cat, it didn't seam to be restricting anything everything flowed fine so it was a total waste of time so don't bother this took up over half the time of the hole job. I hope the helps everyone.cheers

The jet your using is for a 50cc motor I'm a old school tuner what I would do is start with say a 90-92 jet work your way up in jet sizes till you've gone to far then come back till it pulls hard through the hole rev range and that's it you've got the perfect jet for you're bike. I probably would go up a size in the idle jet first. This will eliminate any flat spot at the beginning when your starting to rap it on, 2 strokes hit there power band when the fuel is starting to lean of,so  a ritcher idle jet will keep the motor cool and the correct main jet should be leaning of at max rev's. it's some thing you need time and a long straight to get right so have fun timing your self to get the best results dont just guess plus any mod you do after you need to do it all over again. Ps on a stock bike I would leave the idle jet as is,if you change the exhaust from stock it will be worth doing. I hope this helps everyone this is track side tuning the way it was be for the computer came along. I still think its the best coz every bike is different.cheers

This may sound stupid but I thought that the dr pulley sliders were designed to do what your trying to do with a lot less effort. In saying that I do like to play around with the engineering side to save a bit of money its the self satisfaction that you get that better than a plug n play thing

Weld up the small pipes on exhaust I did this and couldn't believe the difference.then change jet to about an 88. I'm not a big fan of the carby on my 2012 super8 even with the bigger main jet so I've ordered another carb from e-bay that will bolt straight on, ill put up a new post if its a good improvement

Hi guys great forum. I just wanted to let everyone know that when I welded up the two small pipes on the exhaust I got over 10kph faster on top end speed and it got there in half the time.the smallest pipe near the flange I cut of and welded the hole up and the larger visible one I cut of filled the hole then welded the pipe back on so that know ones the wiser exept the readers of this wonderful forum.you could just buy an after market pipe but this didnt cost anything and it goes much much better. I also went up a couple of jet sizes too now that it can breath properly.cheers.
