Super 8 / Re: Derestricting the Kymco Super 8 4T?
« on: June 18, 2010, 12:45:10 PM »
Yeah I've done the variator now and that has made the biggest difference so far if ur looking to get a bit more speed I'd recommend it: http://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/p/POLINI-VARIATOR-SPEED-CONTROL--2992.aspx

But yeah I think that maybe the problem my engine running to lean. I will turn the idle mixture screw tomorrow and try to make the mixture more rich because apparently the mixture is too lean and letting in too much air and so that's why it backfires.

The idle mixture screw does just that... Idle mixture. It doesn't change the mixture under normal running. The only way to change the mixture and colour of your plug is a jet swop combined with maybe a freeflow filter.

Alchemy67, I don't know if the super 8 uses the same gears as the super 9, but in another thread Aeromyst had some gears that would fit only certain models. If you find the thread titled Cloud 9, I think it is in the super 9 section you may get some more info on it. :)

Na! Afraid they won't fit the super 8.  My search goes on....

Just want to stick my 10p's worth. My Super is fully derestricted and has an 85cc Big Bore Kit, Big valve matched head, high lift cam, 24mm carb with 105 jet, Naraku race variator and Dr pulley 9.5g sliding rollers, race clutch, 1500 torque spring and a Technigas freeflow exhaust. It will not go above 50mph because of the gearing and as of the time of writing this there is no gearup kit for this scoot.  Kymco use their own final drive gears which are not standard GY6 gears.  BUT.....  it gets to 50mph very quickly!!!  There are only three restrictions on the super 84t which are variator boss has a shoulder on it, main jet needs to go up a couple of sizes and CDI rev limiter...  thats it nothing else!   Hope that helps because anyone trying to break the 50mph magic number...   best of luck!   I think I should really have bought a 125cc   :-)

Really interesting write up there!!!   Is 10,000 rpm possible on a super 8 50?   I have a rev counter on my super 8 and I get worried when it's at 8,600rpm!!

Super 8 / Super 8 125 engine in a Super 8 50 scoot?

Does anyone know for sure if this is possible?  I have a chance to buy a 125 super 8 engine / transmission unit and wondered if it would be a straight swop into my Super 8 50.? Anyone know?

Cheers

Hi, you could do what I did and emailed customer services at MASCO, they are the distributors for Kymco in the UK. I asked them which wire to cut on my super8 50 4t and a guy came back 2 days later and told me what to do.  That way the info is straight from the horses mouth so tom speak!   No harrm in asking is there?

regards

Super 8 / Re: Instructions for de-restricting Super 8 50cc

Lucky....

The variator boss on the Super 8 has a shoulder that prevents full movement of the variator on it.  You need to buy a 3rd  party replacement boss or sports variator kit which should come with a non restricted boss.

For information, I recently bought a super 8 50. I spoke to UK distributors about restriction methods on this bike and in particular the CDi portion. The super 8 50 has all three restriction methods in place from new here in the UK. The variator boss and carb main jet have been discussed in detail in Chinese Scooter Forum so I wont go over those again. The problem I had was that the CDi on the super 8 50 has 8 (eight) wires not 6 and none of them are "PINK"! Anyway,  for anyone wanting to do the de restriction on the CDi what you need to do is open the battery compartment in the footwell (2 phillips screws) and locate the CDi box at the back of the battery. disconnect the multi plug from the box and then carefully strip back the insulation tape around the 8 wires. Then locate the wire that is VIOLET with RED tracer, You will notice there are two, either will do. Ensure you cut it and leave it in such a way as to be able to rejoin it at a later date should it be necessary.  This removes the rev limiter circuit on the bike. This on its own gave me 40mph on the flat. PLEASE NOTE: I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS MODIFICATION TO YOUR BIKE< DAMAGE IT OR WORSE GET POINTS ETC!!

Enjoy!!
