Xciting 500 / 6 week wait for a tire
« on: September 17, 2009, 11:48:28 AM »
finally after 6 weeks I got my tires on.  I ordered a set of michellen (sp) because the Maxis that came on the scoot were showing cord on the back at 5000.  Of course the tires were back ordered.  I hope I can get more than 5k out of these.  The place that put on the tires said next time it would be more than the 90 dollars they charged this time because the whole left side drive stuff had to come off and it was labor intensive.
How about you all.  What price do you have to pay?  How many sets of tires do you have to put on in a year?  This is the only thing I am not pleased about with the x500, is the tire issue. Any advice?

Mine does.  I am wondering if my belt could be slipping???  If so , can you tighten it??  It almost squalls a litte, especially under load lilke going up incline from a stop or if I really try to do a fast take off.
It kinda sounds like a fan belt does when it is slipping.  any one else have this, and what should I do??
Or is it normal.  It seems to do fine after that few seconds of noise.

I now have 2200 on it because I did a little 3 day trip with camping stuff,  It did great, my back not so good on the tent floor.  Winginman, since I live in a rural area about 5 miles from Corydon, IN. almost all my riding is on the highway. Even if I am in town there are only 8 stop lights so I am sure that makes a huge difference in the mpg.  I got about 48 on my little 3 day tour.  It was a test to see how it would do if I decide to ride the blue ridge parkway.  Jim, I have a lot of time to ride since I am a teacher and have the summers off. It is one of our few perks!!!!!!!

Xciting 500 / just some info and an update on my new x500
« on: June 16, 2009, 03:47:17 PM »
Hey everyone.  Just wanted to say if anyone is looking for a more comfortable ride on their x500 try getting the backrest kit from Jac Vinson.  Rv toys.  I got one and boy is it comfortable.  Easy to install and high quality.  I highly recommend one.  Also I am using a sheep skin gel pad that I got from a on line saddle shop.  I got one for an English saddle.  If you buy this stuff for horses instead of motorcycles they cost about 1/2 of what one cost for mc.  Go figure!
I now have about 1400 on the bike.  I can say that I am enjoying it more all the time.  I traded a Kawasaki Concours for the Kymco and I can say the only thing I really miss is the hp.  Other than that the x500 rides well, handles great and will do all that I could on the connie. I can pack as much stuff for camping on the kymco as I could on the connie.
The more I ride it the less I miss the Kawasaki.  I enjoy the low center of gravity and the ease of manuvering the bike around as compared to the connie.
I also got the Givi windscreen and even though it looks weird at first it has made the ride about 5 times nicer.  I am getting an average of 50-52 mpg. And I am not holding back on it.
I am one happy x500 owner.
If anyone out there is debating about getting one, I dont think you can go wrong with one.
when I bought the connie I read all the negative stuff about the buzz, breaks etc. but they were comparing it to the modern ST and BMW's.  It did all they could do for about 1/2 the cost.
That is the way I feel about the x500.  All the reviews that put the kymco down compared to the Tmax and Burgmans etc, are their opinions.  My x500 will do all they can do for a lot less cash. Much like the connie compared to the other sport tourers.
Any questions in particular about the scoot, let me know.
Jim

Welcome.  Enjoy your new ride as I am.  Curious, besides the price, what convinced you to go with the x500 vs the Burgman and Silverwing?  I have had mine about a month now and it gets better each day.  I traded a heavy but nice ride a concours for the x500.  No regrets so far. Enjoy

there is the backrest mod that is available from rvtoys.net. Jac Vinson.  I called him the other day and he said that Kymco USA is going to buy all of them and put them on their accessory page. 89usd

I have the same problem as you.  If I tape my face sheild at a 45 degree angle, then the air flow is better.  I tried using a spacer under the windscreen, but it didnt help me much.  So, I have ordered the
Givi windscreen .  This is really the only complaint I have about the x500 up this point.

Winginman, I dont know the route you are planning to Indy, either 31 is good or 135 is good.  If you get a chance  ride Hwy 135 from Brownstown to Nashville IN.  If ever a road will let you know how the x500 will handel the twisties that will. Thanks every one for the info.  Gear Oil. Jim

I am now at 600 miles and waiting for an opening at the Kymco dealership to get my scoot in.  What exactely will be done?  I assume they go by the maintenance schedule that is in the owners manual.
I would like to replace my oil with a synthetic ( probably amsoil or lucas ) but should that be motorcycle oil??? Also the owners manual says    to replace the transmission fluid with SAE 90.  Is that transmission fluid or gear oil ??  I dont know about scooters, this is my first. Always had MC's....but am loving this x500.  So can I use Amsoil synthetic mc oil and amsoil transmission fluid or gear oil.?  Thanks  Jim

This break-in is h%$l  .  I am trying to stay off of it , but it is hard.  I now have 154 miles on it and like winginman said, it does seem to get smoother with each mile.  Its been raining here in the Louisville area long enough that I am thinking of building an ark. So , I cant get the 600 on it soon enough. The owners manual says break in to 1000 miles!!!!!!. The mechanic said the first 50 were the most important than let it go. I really dont know what to do.  I am thinking about 300 to 400 miles then start  letting her go a little more.
I like the scooter. It is easy to handel, and does well it the twisty stuff. Its even  pretty good on the interstate.  I think once I can get on it a little more, I can give a much better opinion.  It rides well and the sitting positing is good.  My back hurts a little, but it did when I first started riding the Connie. I think its just a matter of getting used to it.
The breaks are fine. The only concern is the storage under the seat, but I knew that going in. I didnt buy it based on how much it would hold under the seat. There are too many other REALLY good things about this scooter.
If anyone has opinions on the break in let me know. Thanks (

Xciting 500 / Got it yesterday
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:54:04 AM »
Hey everyone. Got the x500ri yesterday.  I think its going to be pretty nice!!! Feels small compared to the big 600 + lbs Concours but seems to have plenty of power.  I will update as the miles rack up.  I put on 110 yesterday.
What windshields will work on it?  I need a taller one.  Also do you think a JC Whitney top box would work?  Thanks everyone
