Grandvista 250 / starting engine difficulties
« on: October 10, 2014, 04:21:24 PM »
My 2009 grandvista 250 has never been as robust at starting up engine as I would like.  Even after adjusting the valves and replacing the spark plug.  When the engine is cold I've found that if I don't turn the throttle it almost always starts right up.  In this condition if I use even a slight turn on the throttle it won't start and floods.  When the engine is warm I have to give it slight throttle say 1/8 turn and it usually starts right up.  In this condition the 'no throttle' method doesn't work.  Has anyone else had this experience?  Thanks.

As always, thanks for your advice.  I ended up using a tie wrap to hold the darn thing but I was just that close to shooting a hole in the decorative plastic opposite it :)

Grandvista 250 / air filter replacement difficulties
« on: October 01, 2014, 07:02:37 PM »
It's almost funny, using the method of removing the whole seat assembly made getting at my valve adjustments easy and the spark plug too.  But I've spent a great deal of time removing the air filter and installing a new one.  The bracket that connect the air filter box has a bolt that is very hard to get too without removing more plastic which I'm loath to do.  Removing the 10mm bolt which connects the box to the bracket wasn't easy but putting it back has proved very difficult for me despite having loads of tools.  Has anybody else found this to be the case?  Thanks.

Grandvista 250 / Getting valves to right position for adjustment

Dumb question but my documentation doesn't tell me which way to turn the engine to get the valves into position.  Clockwise or counter-clockwise?  THanks.

Grandvista 250 / parts for Kymco Grandvista
« on: September 09, 2014, 06:08:43 PM »
It isn't convenient for me to get to a Kymco dealer from where I live.  Is it possible to order standard maintenance parts such as the air filter through mail or UPS?  And how about belts and sliders, springs etc.Thanks.

Grandvista 250 / Re: speedo not responding
« on: July 24, 2014, 11:24:06 PM »
I would definitely check the cable at the front wheel to ensure it is all the way in.  If that checks OK see if both the speedometer and odometer are not working.  If the whole display is off then it could be a fuse or power wire to the unit.  I had a problem where the odometer and speedometer would periodically not work.  It turned out to be a problem in the display itself so I finally had to replace it.  It was an expensive part and very hard to get to and finally replace.  That was well over a year ago and so far so good.

Thanks for the replies.  I hadn't heard about tire balancing fluids before.  Where can I buy them?

Grandvista 250 / Replacing tires on Grand Vista 250

Is it very hard to replace the tires?  Is it something best left to professionals?  I've always done most of the work on my bikes but I've never replaced tires.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the post.  You mentioned touring.  Do Kymco Grandvista riders ever go very far from home?  I've reasoned to myself that there aren't many Kymco repair facilities out there so I never go any further than my Automobile Club towing service allows (so as to have it brought home).  What are some of the experienced riders opinions?   Is it the case that I could get say a bad belt replaced at a different make dealorship?  I figure tires I could get, I'm worried about Kymco parts and expertice.  Are batteries available for my Grandvista 250 at other motorcycle/motorscooter dealorships?  Thanks.

"I agree, I would not replace a belt at 4500 miles.  The wear depends how "hot" the belt gets.  Interstate riding is harder on the belt than just around town with lower speed.  So, I would "inspect and measure it"; belt width should be above 22 mm, and no big signs of rubber shaved off in the casing.  I bet you have none of this.  I changed a belt at 11,500 miles because it started to slip, and that was my former 2005 G/V, and I ride a lot of interstate miles always around/above 70 mph GPS..."

Again thanks for the good advice.  I  inspected my belt and it looks good at this point.  The width which I measured at several points is:  .94 inches = 23.9 mm.   Sorry for the clunky way i did the quote above.  I need to figure out how to do it correctly.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Shredded Belt
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:36:42 PM »
Being a newbie I thought it best to tag along on this subject.  I wanted to inspect my belt or at least see it before it gets shredded someday.  As usual I'm stumped by the plastic that I have to get through to be able to remove the belt cover.  It seems I need to remove the lower left side cover but after removing the bolts it is still being held my something.  My question is what do I have to do to remove this cover?  It seems that I do need to remove it in order to be able to remove the belt cover and the ventilation attached to it.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks Windwheeler.  I can see from reading this forum that there is a lot to the belt and slider selection.  My Grandvista 250 has around 4500 miles on it but it is a 2009 model, so the belt is probably getting old due to age more than mileage.

Grandvista 250 / Re: 250 Grandvista top speed issue
« on: August 15, 2013, 03:56:57 AM »
I ran my grandvista 250 which is a 2009 model at 45 on a level road and it held at 4000 rpm.  I did the same at 50 and it was up to 5000 rpm.  Of course the granularity is 1000 rpm, but that should give you an idea of what to expect at those two speeds.

I'm confused.  I would like to be able to order parts like belts etc. so I tried the link motorscooterparts.com and it looked like that name is now available to buy.  Their were some "related links" listed below the message "Click here to buy motorscooterparts.com for your website name".  Below it were some links entitled "Related links".  Are one of those the one where parts can be ordered for Kymco scooters?  Thanks in advance!
