Vivo had better be on his toes, too. The city he's in lies on top of an active fault line.
Be safe buddy.

General Discussion / Re: Exhaust smell
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:31:31 AM »
It was a sunny day today so I decided to take a look at the exhaust pipe.  I started my scooter on its center stand and left it to idle for half a minute before taking it for a spin around the neighborhood.  The burning oil smell wasn't present during the ride (10 minutes) but there was a hint of the smell when I got home. The exhaust from the pipe is clear so I took a look at the dip stick area. Apparently the culprit is some oil that had dripped out during the filling process.  And that's the cause of the smell.
Thanks Vivo and MSL1 for the reply.  I never experienced this before so I was kind of worried about the whole thing.  Anyway back to normal riding folks.

General Discussion / Exhaust smell

I had the oil in my Like 125 changed just last Sunday.  I had the mechanic put in Castrol fully synthetic 4T  oil.  A day after I start smelling burnt oil coming from the exhaust.  It never smelled like that before the oil change. Do you guys have any idea what's causing the smell?  BTW I also had the gear oil changed.  I'm stumped. Thanks for your input.

I had the oil changed yesterday.  Decided to try Castrol's fully synthetic 4T Power 1 oil 10w-40. I also had the old gear oil drained and replaced.  My Like 125 took in 2 small cans of the gear oil.  Now the engine seems smoother and purrs like a kitty.  :D

Dear Andymann,
Address and phone number of this shop please....
167 LIKE owners are lining up behind me for service at your shop!
Distance no object~!-
I live in Ohio - willing to commute up to one tank of BP 93 octane! (and I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a girl who's brother-in-law has a duck boat, so we're all set for transport)

HI Stig,

It's the Kymco service shop in Manila.  I guess you'll need more than a tankful of that BP 93 octane and a much larger boat.  :D  They had the special on Friday and Saturday.  I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

Quick question:  What's the advantage of using lighter roller weights?  It's just a matter of a few grams/ounces anyway.

On Friday the 13th I was lucky enough to find a shop to change my Like's Drive belt, air cleaner and roller weights.  Got 20% off on parts and no cost for labor. It had 12,670 kilometers on it and would stall in idle traffic.  Replacing the air cleaner somehow addressed the stalling.  The engine also became quieter. With the full face helmet I was trying to listen out for the usual sound but I was pleasantly surprised to hear lesser noise.  All parts put in are original Kymco parts so that's piece of mind for me.

General Discussion / Re: Vivo big storm?!
« on: August 21, 2013, 02:08:33 AM »
Vivo is most likely cleaning up his place by now.  He probably moved his family to higher ground when the rains started.  There are several hours in the day when the rain would stop; long enough for the water to subside in some areas. Most of Manila is still under at least 3 to 4 feet of water. The cities outside are not too lucky.  It will take days for the water to recede.

Yesterday, during a lull in the storm, I grabbed the opportunity to get on my scoot to the corner 7-11 to get some groceries.  Turns out they were low on supplies too.  So I rode to a nearby store.  The store i'm talking about is a lot smaller than a 7-11.  It retails all sorts of groceries.  Well, they had all that i needed.  These stores are found all over the communities.  We call them "sari-sari" stores. Sari-sari is loosely translated as "all sorts"  or variety.  Anyway,  I was pleasantly surprised that not only did they have groceries, but also some motorcycle stuff.  I could've easily had my oil changed and serviced if it weren't for the bad weather.   So now I know where to go next time when I need eggs, bread, peanut butter and an oil change.

Vivo is in a city called Marikina. It's a valley and usually gets flooded when a nasty storm dumps rain on it.  I live not too far, around 10 to 12 kilometers away but streets around our place go underwater too. It's been raining for the past 4 days and we're still expecting more rains due to a storm coupled with the monsoon rains.  Not much riding we can do.

Vivo,

Could you give me a shop address  where I could get me a pair of these Mizzle tires please?
I haven't changed my tires yet.  The front tire is still Kenda while the rear tire is a Samson.  Ever heard of Samson?  I haven't.    What have you heard about Avon tires?  Are they worth it or just pretty? TIA

Welcome Andymann! So, you're living in the shoe city also?

Vivo,  I live in Quezon City, not too far from your city.

What a rush!  I took my Like to work for the first time today!   The trip was around 9kms. With heavy traffic the trip took around 40 minutes. I was nervous as I drove out the gate. The tips on riding I read helped a lot.  I was very careful not to scratch other cars and my scoot too.  I got me an LS2 Helmet. Optic yellow for hi visibility. My head looked like an enormous tennis ball.  I could get used to the daily commute.
