Side By Side / Re: Side mirrors for 500i

Try these. They've worked great on my machine and have been problem free.

Side By Side / Re: 500i le top speed
« on: October 01, 2016, 10:58:18 PM »
I had a 2012 500se and, if I remember correctly, the top speed was around 46. It looks like you're in the ballpark. My 700 will do around 56ish but it gets so damn squirrelly on dirt roads I seldom go that fast.

Side By Side / Drive Belt Question
« on: September 28, 2016, 07:29:02 PM »
How many miles are you getting on the UXV drive belt before it needs to be changed? I realize driving conditions factor in but I'm trying to get a rough idea as to when I should change it. I have 1000 miles on my 700sp. I have a 19 year old Polaris ATV which has a recommendation to change it at I believe 1000 miles but it looks like it was just installed. No rot, no wear, nothing. I can't access the UXV belt as easily to inspect it.

Side By Side / Check Your Skid Plate Bolts
« on: June 13, 2016, 03:57:42 AM »
I drive a 14 UXV 700i SP. The machine has close to 700 miles on it with most of them on Moab trails. Needless to say I work it hard. On a recent ride I heard an unfamiliar noise under the machine and found part of my skid plate hanging. The bolts on both sides came out somehow. The leading edge on the rear plate was hanging down so fortunately I caught it before I ripped it off on the next rock. Luckily Kymco uses the same size bolts on nearly all of the machine so I was able to take bolts from the door frame and fix the plate. I checked the remaining skid plate bolts and found all of them loose. I'm not sure if they weren't torqued correctly or if they loosen with vibration. I put a little Lock Tite on each one and they should be good. Just wanted to let everyone know to check those bolts during their next inspection.

I don't have the 450 so I'm not familiar with the layout. I have the 700 and have speakers and an amp installed. The cost was under $100 and took a couple hours to install. The amp is mounted in the storage box under the hood. A simple audio jack is plugged into the amp input and the female end is mounted to the dash. The box speakers are mounted to the rollbar above and behind the seats. I did make new speaker mounts with heavier steel straps I bought at a hardware store. It works perfectly for me. I plug an iPod in and have my tunes on the trail.

Take a look at Rocky Mountain ATV for the mirrors. They sell a set that clamps right on the rollbar. I think I paid under $50 for a set. They've been great. Strong enough to stay in place on rough trails but will still move if they get hit by a branch, etc. Here is a link.     https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1021/50476/Kolpin-UTV-Side-Mirrors?term=utv+mirror

Do you mean not being able to get it into park? I've had two UXVs and both have been hard shift into park when stopped. I found if you make a quick, light, tap on the throttle it will work.

If there is one thing holding Kymco back it is the lack of accessories or upgrades. I love my Kymco 700sp but I've been contemplating moving on to a different brand/model just for this reason.

I had a 500 SE and had the dealer put a new clutch kit in it. It didn't give it much more top end but it definitely gave it more mid range power. It was much better at keeping up with the 700 and 800's on long steep grades. I believe it was under $200 installed.

Side By Side / Re: 700i Exhaust 'Afterfire'
« on: August 23, 2015, 10:23:13 PM »
I spoke with my local Kymco dealer and they found many of these machines have the wrong throttle body on them. They are waiting for a shipment and will replace it. They said it will stop the after fire and increase power.

Side By Side / 700i Exhaust 'Afterfire'
« on: May 30, 2015, 11:23:00 PM »
I've taken my 700i SP out on a few rides now and put about 100 miles on it. The machine spits and pops when I am going up or down grades and let my foot off the gas. I believe the correct term is 'Afterfire'. I've read this could be because the engine is running lean but it is FI so I'm not sure how that could be. Any ideas? Has anyone else had the same issue before I take it to the dealer to have it checked under warranty? I haven't had any loss of power or other problems. I have a carbureted Honda ATV that does it rarely but nothing like this.

X2 on having to blip the throttle at times to get it in park from drive. I had to do it on my 500 and 700. On one of my previous posts I mentioned I loved my 500 except on long steep roads in the mountains. Most other times, even the rocks of Moab, the machine worked great. I even surprised a few skeptical friends who have Rhino 700s. I could also outrun them since the 500 maxed out at a higher speed.

Side By Side / My new 700i SP
« on: May 26, 2015, 03:29:36 AM »
I recently traded in my 500 SE for a new 700i SP. I have to say I loved my 500 but I am happy I bought the 700. I was looking for a little more power and a smoother ride. I found it! The 500 went everywhere but the 700 has a little more power.  Since I ride in the mountains, I needed the extra power for the long uphill climbs. The only thing I don't like about the 700 is the doors. I'm used to climbing out of the UXV and over the net. The doors change it a bit so I guess I'll have to learn.

I looked at a few other brands in the same price range and found they were all either bare bone models or were very small. I'm 5'9" and some of the narrower UTVs were uncomfortable. I felt like I was jammed in the thing. The extra 9" of width on the UXV makes a big difference on an incline during some of the more hairy rides.

I'd like to put a shout out to Powerhouse Motorsports in Utah. These guys are great to work with. This is the second UTV I've bought from them and each time I've left knowing they took care of ME rather than just themselves. I'd be happy to answer any questions for newbies or those looking at the Kymco models.

Side By Side / Re: Aftermarket Shocks

Thanks for the info. I look forward to seeing the new shocks Wicked Al. I actually just traded in my 500 SE and bought a 700 SP. What a difference. The machine is awesome and the ride is smooth. I looked at a few other brands but had to stay with the Kymco.

Side By Side / Re: newbie here looking at a 500i sp
« on: April 27, 2015, 03:24:26 AM »
It should have everything you've mentioned (spare tire, light, soft roof but not sure about the doors). I've owned a UXV 500SE for over 2 years. Living in Utah gives me an opportunity to take it on all sorts of terrain. It really depends on what you're looking for. This isn't a sand machine and it won't keep up with the 900's and 1000's. This is a utility vehicle which is best suited for trails. I have a blast on mountain trails, desert trails, and the slick rock of Moab. I've had it nearly vertical up and down at times. There are times it needs to be in low gear to get up steep trails but otherwise it will go anywhere. The ride is less than perfect and I'm looking for aftermarket shocks. I spent half as much on my machine as my friends and have just as much fun.
