Downtown 300 / Re: Tall riders

I'm 6 foot 4 and don't have a problem with the Downtowner. The seat is really comfy for long rides.

Downtown 300 / Disappearing fuel gauge
« on: August 02, 2015, 12:50:55 PM »
I am having a problem that sometimes when I start my Downtowner up, the fuel gauge doesn't show. Other times I will start up my bike and the fuel gauge mysteriously shows up again. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you sort the problem out? Thanks in advance  :)

Downtown 300 / Re: Need Cover Recommendations

The best cover I've ever had was purchased from Aldi when they had a motorcycle gear sale on. It was not expensive and has lasted about a year now under the sun with no signs of wear. I highly recommend it.

I am getting the same problem more regularly now. It never happened when I first purchased my Downtowner but now it does. Mostly it's only the fuel gauge that doesn't appear, even after restarting the bike. I will as about it next service as not knowing how much fuel is left could leave me in the middle if nowhere. I don't want to go around checking all the connections especially if not approved by a kymco mechanic.

What is the point of it? It's function?

I would still take your scooter back to the dealers & have their mechanic look at it just to be safe. It should not cost you anything as it's new & you don't expect any problems from a new scooter. When I first got my scooter I accidently left the key on & drained the battery. Fortunately the nice people who sold me the scooter replaced it with a new battery free if charge. No problems after that dilemma. I believe the Downtown to be a very reliable scooter. Good luck

Downtown 300 / Good helmets for long distances
« on: August 23, 2014, 03:23:57 PM »
Hi I am the owner of a Downtown 300i ABS & love riding it, both short & long distances. The problem I have is that my helmet gives me headaches over long distances. I don't think it's too small, just not appropriate for long rides. Can anybody recommend a good helmet or two for riding long distances please? Thanks

I'm glad to hear you are also enjoying the Downtowner. I use mine to commute almost everywhere. I have no problems with the seat on long rides though my helmet can give me a headache. I might look into this in a future post & inquire about good helmets for long distances. Happy riding

There is a reason why we all need a motorcycle mechanic. You should have got your downtown serviced & fixed getting you a better price when selling it. Good luck with the burgman.

An important point I failed to mention in my previous post is that you MUST turn the scooters power on first before turning the key the opposite way to unlock the seat.

I have a Givi windshield & I am impressed with it, much netter than the stock kymco windshield. It directs the wind around past the hands protecting them from wind chill & giving better aerodynamics. Givi has a much larger surface giving more protection to the rider.

It's easy to unlock the seat, just turn the key to the left while lifting the seat at the same time. Sometimes you may have to turn the key twice, but my seat has always opened without much trouble for me.
More importantly, to close the seat, softly is best. Let the seat fall back down onto the latches, then press gently but firmly to lock into position. This will always work, many people make the mistake of slamming the seat to close (including the salesman who sold me the bike!), but your more likely to damage the seat this way.  ;D
