Xciting 500 / Re: Speedometer problem

Yes, it´s carbureted, don´t know if this is the correct procedure on the Ri.

But fuel injected cars and boats that I have come across never had any objections about disconnecting the battery, it can become discharged for some reason, and the fuel injection has to handle such a situation as well.

This has happened a couple of times for me as well, easily solved as described below, pasted from another forum:

You need to reset the speedometer. Here's how to do it: First, remove the negative battery lead. With that lead removed turn the ign switch to the run position. You will then touch and hold the battery cable back to the negative terminal of the bat. Watch the speedo, this should reset the speedo. Now turn off the ign switch and reconnect the battery.

I did this with my Kymco and it resolved the problem easily. Sorry you had to take such invasive measures, but if it happens again try this solution. It worked for me.

Xciting 500 / Re: Stearing problem!!
« on: August 31, 2011, 01:38:38 PM »
I had to have the stearing bearings replaced at 9000 kms, due to the the previous owner that didnt notice that the front wheel was way out of balance all the time.

If you are in the Stockholm area I can highly recommend a smal workshop called mcverkstaden.se

General Discussion / Re: For sell Kymco Smoke Sport Windshield

Well, I´m interested, but far away, Sweden/Europe...

How come that you want to change?

I have the older higher stock screen, and I have my share of wind-buffeting at highway speeds, I thought that the smaller (tinted) RI-screen would move the helmet up in clean air.

Is that NOT so?

Any comments appreciated

Then I have to give up the whole idea.

Technical | How To / Re: Speedo has made a full 360

Well, found a solution.

Here it is,for others to find in case of the same problem.

The Speedo has to be reset in case of low battery or battery charging.

How to reset speedo:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable

2. Turn key to drive-position

3. Connect  negative battery cable

4. Now the speedo shall reset at the right place

Thats all!  :)

Technical | How To / Speedo has made a full 360
« on: June 09, 2010, 06:41:56 PM »
Last night I had the first flight after winter with my belowed Xciting 500.

This morning I found out that the speedo had made a fulll 360,
the dial hand is on the wrong side of the little peg just below zero.

It´s alive as it moves upwards a little when I start moving, but it gets
stopped by the little peg, and won´t move any further.

Any ideas?

It´s an all electronic instrument.

It wasn´t me pushing her that hard ;D

Thanks!

And - No, I have never done any work like this before.

Made a small test item first, not very hard to do at all.

Had to try different temperatures and "baking time" in the oven,
I think it was about 100 degrees celsius for a few minutes, then
hurry out to the scooter and press it against the original windscreen
before the acrylic glass hardened again.

If you want to try some DIY, I made this Laminar Lip for my Xciting myself, works great!

Nice, just what I wanted to hear!

What about wind-noise and helmet-buffeting at 55 mph+?

Nice, and the pricing seems reasonable also!

Well - I thought about stock spareparts, that get very expensive on their way up north

Especially interested in you experiences with Laminar Lip and the
higher stock Kymco windscreen, that came with the first versions
of the Xciting 500 or Xciting 250!

Try this one: http://www.tucmoto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=TAK

Really nice pricing compared to the Swedish agent that has lost their minds about pricing,
steering bearing 80 USD from Tucmoto versus 400 USD in Sweden!

Find your part number here http://issuu.com/johnsonlintw/docs/saa0ae_us_/63 ,
and then use Google to find it on Tucmoto, as their online shop is not the easiest to
find things on!

Oskar - Is it the windscreen or turbulence around you helmet
that makes the vibration sounds?

Seems like the solution not is the smaller windscreen either...

Maybe the Laminar Lip on my higher windscreen is the way to go,
I'll start a new thread about Laminar Lip to see if there is any
experiences to be shared.

BTW, I saw a police motorbike today, with the Laminar Lip installed,
don't think the install things unless they are proved to work.

But the tinted windscreen is still cool 8)

jrd4849 - Thats good news, I have been considering the Laminar Lip as well,
but had not found any confessions regarding Laminar Lip on the Xciting 500.

If you got rid of the buffeting with your Xciting 500Ri, it would probably work on
my Xciting 500 with the taller windscreen.

Do you have any pictures?
