People 250 / Re: Looking for opinions on People 250S VS Grand Vista 250
« on: September 07, 2022, 07:38:02 PM »
How has it been stored, serviced and ridden these past 15 yrs?

Stig

Same adult owner last 7 years.  3,200 miles on the bike.  His commute changed, so no longer rides the scooter.  Full service at  Kymco dealer in early June.  I'm looking to downsize from a Burgman 400, but would still like to hop on the freeway for an exit or 3 if needed.  The Grand Vista I worked on had, 34,000 miles and inside, looked like a bike with 3,000 miles.  i was impressed.

People 250 / Looking for opinions on People 250S VS Grand Vista 250
« on: September 06, 2022, 09:19:20 PM »
Hello Kymco fans!  I'm looking for input from anyone who can compare the quality of a People 250S to that of a Grand Vista. I tore into a GV a couple of years ago that had 34,000 miles on it. I was impressed with the quality of parts.  Both sets of pullies showed very little wear.  Valves were spot on, owner thinking they had never been checked.  I am looking for 200 to 300cc scooter.  There is a 2007 250S w/ 3,200 miles near me.  Can I assume this scooter is the same quality as the Grand Vista?  Any long term owners of a 250S out there that would like to share their thoughts on the scooter?  Thank you in Advance!

People 50 / Help with 2010 2t carburetor Solved
« on: August 03, 2022, 05:18:28 PM »
Good morning Kymco fans!  I'm looking for some help on a 2t carburetor.  See the picture, do all carbs have the o-ring / seat on the air fuel screw? (just to the left of the arrow)   Secondly, the scooter runs great once you get it started  It is a bear to start.  You have to kick start it twenty times to get it to fire up.    I have heavy fuel running out of the intake side of the carb.  I know the petcock is working fine. Fuel line is unhooked from the carb at the moment, and nothing is coming out of it.  I believe the float needle valve is working correctly.  With carb off, I blow air through the fuel intake, and the flow will shut off when the carb is parallel.  All the jets are clean, the carb looks good.  There is no seat or o-ring on the air/fuel screw.   I'm looking for guidance.  Thank you in advance.  Update:  I thought I would pass this along for future readers.  Carb was pissing fuel out of the backside.  Ended up being warped reeds.  Hard to find a Kymco replacement you say.  Get the reeds for a Kawasaki KX60.  I had to oblong the holes a little bit.  $13.00 off Ebay.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Adjustment screws at top of headlight.
« on: March 15, 2020, 03:19:31 PM »
Thank you for the reply guys.  I was able to get the headlight fairly centered by turning the source screw from behind bofore putting it all back together.   This GV250 is a solid bike.  Feels like a smaller version of my Burgman 400.  Scooter has 31,000 miles on it.  Valves were checked once on the first service, and never touched again.   Both were in spec when I checked them.

Grandvista 250 / Adjustment screws at top of headlight.
« on: March 04, 2020, 10:25:39 PM »
Does anyone know this pair of adjustment screws does?  They are located at the top of the GV250 headlight.  They turn a series of gears behind the headlight housing.  I thought they were the two screws used to remove the front panel.  I hadn't removed the windshield yet, and didn't see the 10mm heads for the actual bolts I needed to remove.  I spen them counter clockwise before I realized the were the wrong screws.  I've tried turning the gears, and looking at the front to see what they go to.  I for the life of me can not tell what the function of this contraption is.   Any ideas Kymco think tank?

LIKE 200i / Re: Weird maintenance schedule for LIKE200

Sad truth is most service intervals are set up for the dealer's benefit not the benefit of the scooter owner.   Very few stand alone scooter dealers anymore.  Most of the succesful dealers are part of a motorcycle dealership.  Dealers make very little money on each scooter sold.  The real profit is in the service and accessories end.

General Discussion / Re: shipping a scooter - advice ?
« on: July 28, 2017, 11:49:02 PM »
I have shipped two scooters this summer without incident.  One from Denver to Austin.  I sent the buyer a PayPal invoice for 1/2.  He arranged shipping on uship.com.  He found a guy delivering a trailer 30 miles from me and heading back to Texas empty.  He was able to get the scooter shipped to his door for $180.  As soon as the shipper contacted me to set an appointment, I sent the PayPal invoice for the second half.  Once the second half payment was received, I mailed the paper work and one key priority mail.  Second scooter was from Denver to Hawaii.  Same payment method.  I had to deliver the scooter to a nearby Honda dealer who crated it for the shipper to pick up.   Was really simple.  The guy in Hawaii sent me his profile on Uship, so I could see he had been trying to buy this type of scooter for the last 7 months.    Both of these sold for more than I could have got locally.  Don't listen to the naysayers, just be diligent as I'm sure you always are.

Good afternoon Kymco enthusiasts.  I'm looking for advice from long term People 2t owners.  Please tell me what you use for service intervals for gear oil, air filter and spark plug.  I have the owner's manual, so no need to quote what is in there.  I'm looking to see what actual high mileage owners have done and been successful with.  Thank you in advance!   A.B.

Good afternoon Kymco Think Tank.    Will you kindly tell me where the gear oil drain is on a 2007 People 50?   I don't see it.  Please tell me how much gear oil goes back in.  Thank you.  AB

LIKE 200i / Re: Like 200i as well made as Agility 50?
« on: March 12, 2017, 10:25:24 PM »
Like is made in mainland China.  Buddy is made in Taiwan.  I've owned both.  Found the Buddy fit, finish and overall quality superior to that of the Like.  Sit on a Like and take it for a nice long ride before pulling the trigger.  Ergonomics of this scooter are interesting.

Ooty's Scooters in Santa Barbara is a SYM, Kymco and Genuine Dealer. This is what Chris, the owner had to say on the Sym forum when this same topic came up:

"Kymco Like and Agility metallurgy from China, Lance/SYM from Taiwan. Having rebuilt, torn down, re-assembled, and thoroughly gone through many , many engines I would have to say that the cheap Chinese bikes have poor metal quality, with porous castings, next better is the Kymco Like, followed by the Agility, then the Lance. As far as Taiwan builds, Kymco and SYM are similar, PGO is a step better.
This thread being about Lance dealerships, I would say that I am very pleased with the product - especially the PCH - SYM quality throughout. "

To summarize: Dealer/mechanic puts the Like one small tick above the average Chinese scooter.

How do you know your battery is good?  Was it tested under load?  If not, just about any autoparts store will test it for free.
