LIKE 200i / Re: Fork rough response

Normal noise.  If the fork seals are not leaking, you probably have the right amount of oil too.  Seems that a rough ride just goes with the Like experience.  However, I have wondered how the forks would work with very light oil.

Stig, the 2011 is as reliable an anvil except for that fender support and a loose screw here or there.  Got it used with 750 miles for $1,400.

Yes, mine broke at about 1,500 miles.  Ordered a new one from Kymco and it has gone another 1,500 miles without breaking.

If you have a few weeks to wait, you can make a much better deal on a very low mileage used one through eBay or Cycle Trader.   Resale value is low on these so you should be able to pick one up with under 2000 miles for $1,000 to $1,500. I've done that twice in the last two years.

Strange.  I had two Likes, a 2011 and a 2013.  Plastic was fine in both of those.

That's about as fast as my Like 200 would go. The speedometer agreed to the mile per hour with my GPS.   On a calm day it would do 58. Into a headwind, it was good for 50 and I saw 65 with a good tailwind. When I had that scooter, I weighed about 235 pounds. I eventually got a Vespa GTS 250 that is good for a corrected 72 mph. Loved my Kymco but I needed a little more speed.

After a very happy year of ownership, I sold my 2011 Like 200i yesterday.  I found a 2007 Vespa GTS 250 way out in the middle of Nowhere, Texas (actually, Saragosa) with 400 original miles and I had to buy it.  Which set in motion the sale of the Like because I don't have the money or space to keep both.

I appreciate the higher cruising speed of the Vespa, its comfort and 110 other little things but that in no way means that I'm downplaying the overall goodness of the Like.

I bought mine used with 800 miles on it and sold it with just over 2,900 miles on the clock a year later.  Except for those muffler heat shield bolts that like to extract themselves, it has been completely reliable and runs better now at the end our year together than at the beginning.  The brakes are its strongest point (maybe a little better than the Vespa's) followed closely by its styling (also a little better than the Vespa's - my opinion anyway). Loved the top box, loved the fuel economy (70 mpg) and loved the freedom I felt cruising the back roads.  Wasn't so thrilled about the seat (though my butt seemed to tolerate it better than many others on the forum), the top speed (215 pounds, 58 GPS miles per hour) or the headlight (ugh!).  My favorite ride was 75 miles in the Big Bend Country on a perfect fall day with mountain curves, abundant wildlife and no automobiles in sight.

In the end, I needed a little more top speed for my back road adventures and I have never been able to avoid buying a motorcycle (or scooter!) that is being sold at 60% of book value.  Usually, it is just better if I don't go and look!  That's what my wife says anyway.

I sold it yesterday to a first time scooterist who had a ball on a 50cc rental scooter in the Caribbean and wanted more.  He was thrilled to get it and I felt good about selling it to him.  Like most of us, he had done a lot of internet research on Kymcos and fell in love with the classic styling of the Like.  I know he will enjoy it as much as I did.

Think I'll keep hanging around the forum because my gear-head tendencies will keep me curious about what's going well with your Likes and what is breaking.

Ride safely friends.  If you are ever on FM307 east of Midland and see a silver Vespa whisper by, that's me headed out into ranch country for another back road adventure.

For Sale / SOLD 2011 Like 200i, 2950 miles, Mint Condition, $1,675 OBO

A really nice scooter in need of a new home. Just moved up to a larger bike so this one needs to go.  If you are reading this posting, you probably know all about the 200i model.  This particular 200i has been garage kept from new and was not used for commuting.  That means there is no sun damage or corrosion and it looks as close to new as it can be.  All maintenance has been performed ahead of schedule.  Give me a call or text at 432-853-2751.  I am in West Texas (Midland) and will do what I can to help with delivery.

General Discussion / Re: Smooth Drive Boss Help

Or you could just ride it and see how fast it goes. 30 or under, you still have the original restricted drive boss. 35+, you have a smooth one. Of course, that assumes an otherwise stock Like 50 on level ground.

60° day today here in West Texas but that was certainly warm enough to get out on the scooter. Rode about 50 miles. Didn't wear enough layers though. Had a nice chill by the time I got home.

Got the Puig in early October and found it easy to install but it does take a little patience to get it even and looking right. It was good for wind protection but it also created a great deal of noise around my helmet. So much so that I either needed to start wearing ear plugs or get rid of the windshield.  I took it off in early November. I'm about 5' 11" so that may put me in the noisy zone but another person at another height may have no trouble at all.  If you're looking for a windshield, I'm happy to sell mine for $40 with shipping included.  Excellent quality – just didn't work for me.  Send me a text at 432–8 53–2751 if you need one.

« on: November 21, 2014, 03:05:19 AM »
Call me crazy but at five 11 1/2 I really do fit the Like 200 pretty well.  My knees do not hit the handlebars in sharp turns and I can get stretched out enough even with that ridge on the seat. No the accommodations are not deluxe, but they're not terrible either.  Hey, with an endorsement like that, maybe Kymco will make me a test rider. Then all their bikes will have the same ergonomics!  Seriously though, I have learned (the hard way) not to buy scooters, or motorcycles for that matter, without sitting on them and riding them if possible.  There are other factors than height that enter into the comfort equation.

How's this for hillclimbing speed? Moderate grade, 7000 feet above sea level, 60°F, premium gas, 230 pound rider... get ready for it... 30 mph. Davis Mountains in the Big Bend country of Texas. Great ride I'll post about separately....  Sure glad I upgraded from that Like 50!

Agree with Stig.  I have a buddy who goes about 350 lbs.  He rides a Suzuki Burgman 650 and loves it.  Not as overwhelmly big as a Gold Wing or Electraglide so it is still pretty nimble.  Burgman 400 would do the trick too. Kymco also has some nice larger models you might want to consider.
