I like it MUCH better.

You may wind up changing the bar ends to hang below the grips. I had to because I was constantly hitting them when they were mounted like yours.

thanks zombie. i do to. and yes i have noticed that i do bump them with my wrist when moving the bike around or taking my hand off to wave at the kind drivers when the move to let me pass. i am adjusting but i my rotate them a bit to avoid that. maybe this weekend.

oh and i found where the windshield really makes the difference in the wind. up to about 70mph... no problem above that around 80+, wow wind lol, can really feel it. not really turbulent but feel it pushing on your chest and head. quite exhilarating haha. still like the look with out.

still gonna try and refinish the windshield so i can have it on hand if im planning on a long haul or something. also though of when i get it all sanded and polished, maybe iu can have it trimmed to help keep the lopro look but still have a bit of wind deflection. we will see. right now, enjoying it way too much. the bike seems to turn more heads when i fly by. think people are looking at it trying to figure out what the heck it is lol.

My xc500 has gone street fighter. Replaced OEM antler mirrors with bar end mirrors and removed the windshield. (The windshield UV layer was orange peeling so removed to try and refinish it and liked the look ) :)

Any brand/kind of bar end that expands to fit/lock into the inside of a 7-8th inch bar should work? :-*
thanks, i picked some up off amazon and installed them last night. the actual expandable part i didnt end up using as the bar ends for the xciting have a threaded hole built into the bars and the bolt threaded right into it, i had to add a couple washers on the throttle side though so the bar end mirror mount wouldnt rub on the grip on the throttle, it wasnt allowing it to spring back when let go. simple solution though. they are awesome. love the look over the antlers (oem mirrors) looks more streetfighter lol. and i can see behind me way better. my elbows and shoulders arent in the field of view anymore. the ones i got are slightly convex mirrors so i see quite a bit more and more behind me as well. i will get a pic asap. really like these and would recomend them on the xciting :)

Xciting 500 / bar end mirrors

Anyone put bar end mirrors on their exciting 500. Was looking into it. To change the look a bit. But the way some of them mount into the bars is puzzling me. Trying to figure out which ones I should order or what mounts I should look for. Thoughts?

I've done business with him and he's a good guy. He has bars for the Downtown but not listed for the exciting but I'd send him a message. It's worth a shot, If  they exists he'll find them.

Awesome thanks. Im curious what the factory bars under the plastic look like. Wonder if I can just remove the plastic and have nice black bars. I just like the exposed bars look. Also thinking of making a shorter wind shield, sportier look :)

Xciting 500 / Re: when to replace drive belt?
« on: August 29, 2014, 07:35:54 PM »
Know nothing about a 500, but if one is looking at the belt - fully 1/2 of the work on changing it is already done!
Get yourself some new rollers and slide pieces, a new belt, maybe 2 new nuts, one of those 'holder' tools and have at it!
Don't put a time on the job in your mind. Take your time, have a coffee, look things over - this is your commuter.
At 20000 miles I would be changing the belt.
Stig
Thanks stig, the dealer just checked it a couple weeks ago and it was well within spec so imma have the check it again soon when I am nearby and get one on order soon if even just to have on hand :) I will prpb get the rollers and slides also while im in there.

Xciting 500 / when to replace drive belt?
« on: August 29, 2014, 03:47:07 PM »
hello fellow xc500 guys. question, at what mileage did you guys replace your drivebelt. i have just under 20,000 miles on my xciting 500 ri, on the original drive belt. i have had it inspected by 2 shops including the dealer and both said it looked good. i use it as a commuter so i would say about 80-85% of my mileage is freeway. what are your thoughts?
also when you replaced your belt, what else did you replace? what was the cost?
thinking i can do it myself borrowing some tools. i have swapped a variator on a super 8 150cc but this is a much more robust setup on the xciting 500. i still cant imagine it taking much longer than 30 minutes to install one.
any info, tips tricks are appreciated.
thanks in advance guys.

Xciting 500 / aftermarket handle bars

Anyone put aftermarket handle bars or remove the plastic covering from the stock bars of their exciting. How difficult is it to do? Pics? Ideas. Kinda like exposed bar look. Also, anyone shorten or trim or put a shorter windshield on the exciting?

Son of a ! $!//^#*/((**#:'&^^@&$(/((#!!!!!!!
Finally got my bike back a few weeks ago after 2 months in the shop. All fixed and good and the fuel pump goes out. Completely unrelated to the previous issue but seriously!!!  Was doing fine, started fine, then stopped and met my wife for dinner after work, went back out and all of a sudden the fuel pump wont prime. It clicks and get power but doesnt buzz (priming sound).  So its in the shop yet again. Atleast this time we know what the problem is.

Finally after what seems like an eternity, almost 2 months. I have scoot-zilla back and shes running better and stronger than ever. As mentioned the valves were faulty and they found at the end that something had got sucked up into and emissions line around the charcoal canisters that was blocking the air flow. Pretty much guaranteed that was the cause for the random choking out at a stop after a long hwy haul. But the way everything trickled down, It has a whole mew top end, throttle body, sensors, etc and all under warranty as it should be. Im just so glad to have it back and be on 2 wheels again.

Well you know it will work out for you in the end. Thank God it's not a DeLorean.

true true lol

update update update!!! may have found the cause. after testing all the peramiters and finding nothing out of place, the tech did a leak down test on the head.................. 2 valves are not closing all the way with a 40% leakdown on one of the valves. so, my shop is putting in for a new head from the manufacturer. i should here today if it is approved and how soon they will get the parts. ah!!! i hope this cures it and that all goes smooth with warranty and all that as it should.

Xciting 500 / Re: resetting the oil light.
« on: July 02, 2014, 02:39:46 PM »
i know on my 2012, i believe its the top right button on the dash, says service or something, its a recessed button, i have to use a pen and push it in and hold for a little bit and it resets the service light. i would imagine it should be the same on yours, dont quote me on that though.

Xciting 500 / Re: tps/isc reset procedure??? please help
« on: July 02, 2014, 02:37:28 PM »
update, still in the shop!!! almost a month now. they still have it torn down and were communicating directly with the manufacturer. yesterday kymco told them to hold off because they got another one that is exhibiting the exact same issue and the same bike. this can be good news since that one is at the manufacturer so they have the parts on hand. so they are going through everything, then gonna let the dealer know what to do. i am really hoping we are getting close. this has taken way too long and i dont want to have to deal with lemon law if i dont have to cause then i need to consult a layer.
