Hey Lido,

Sure glad you made it out for the ride.  It was great to finally meet you.  That was a good ride with only 8 bikes, it moved fairly well with a good destination.  This group has come up with some great places to see.  The lunch spot was pretty crowded, but we were in and out of there fairly fast.

See you on the next ride, or send my a private message if you want to ride.  If my schedule works out we can head down the coast.  Burgers at Cooks Corner is always fun.

Sounds darn good Stig.

Here in CA, my wife's LX out the door price last month for her '14 was $3100.

They have a very active scooter club in Long Beach.

Hi Lido,

You talkin' about us?  I'm still a noob with these folks, i've done 5 rides, and they've all been a ton of fun.  Great group of many different folk, but all a love of scooters.

My wife has a new LX like yours sitting in the garage waiting to rack up the miles.  It currently has 1.2 miles on it.  :o  Last weekend she finished the riding portion of the MSF, now it's off to the DMV for the written, sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Our group:  http://www.meetup.com/long-beach-area-scooter-group/

My stoopid little thread on ADV; I'm samthg over there.  http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=941261

If you get a chance, check the group rides out.

Congratulations!  I just finished my MSF yesterday, and have to say, it's well worth taking.  I have about 9 mi on my 200i, so I have a lot of breaking in to do as well.  Enjoy, ride safe, and post pics from your adventures!!

Way to MtnGirl!

My wife just finished MSF yesterday also, you girls rock!

Good luck to you & enjoy.

After a few weeks of looking, I brought her home from the dealer today. I cleaned her up and cruised the neighborhood. This machine is everything I heard it was. I can't ride too far. Still need license, MSF class, and insurance. I had to work on keeping the speed down for the break in.

Congratulations on the new bike neighbor!

My wife just got one identical to yours, they look great.  Best of luck!!

Can we get one with that pretty BMW in front? (year, miles, any issues?)
Thanks for the pix!
Stig

You bet Stig,

The bike is a '78 R100S(but it does not have the 'S' fairing on it).  I picked it up 3 years ago, running, but in very bad shape.  It was originally off white in color and it was a mess.  The wife looked at it and just shook her head, no faith.  About six months later it was all put back together and very ridable.  I did not want a show bike, I wanted a dependable rider.  I tossed, ok-handed gingerly, the wife a paint book and she picked the color.  It's Audi's paint color, go figure.

This bike gets ridden the least, and may be on c/l pretty soon, we'll see.  It has 36k mi., and I don't know it's history.  Compression numbers are good and strong, it purrs with no leaks!  It does spur alot of conversation, but my hips hurt when I get off it.

My other bike has been the travel bike which I picked up in '06 with 2k mi., now at about 40K.  My m.i.l. lives just outside Glacier Nat'l Park in MT, so it has made many trips up there, 2 up.

That's a new C17 in the back ground at the Long Beach airport, where they are built.

...also, let me try to reply to some of the comments.

Troutbum-It's Orange County, CA., so that little road probably doesn't go too far before you run into 1000's of homes.  Glad to hear you've got 19 mos of trouble free miles!

Vivo-"one of the best moments"-you ain't kidding, I picked it up and put it in the garage.  When she got home from work she ran to the garage, and her happiness was priceless.

big blue-I still can't get over when i'm riding with my scooter group on how many waves and horn blowing we get, it cracks up all the riders, it's fun!  I'm a fan of windscreens, even have one of my small dual sport.  As far as I know it's just a kymco product.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Neo-No i'm not a Seal Team member, I'm from Seal Beach, CA.  But my son's best friend is a Seal member, now in Germany.  Amazing what that kid has gone through.

Crossbolt-I'll get some pics of that screen and how it's mounted, i'll let you know how it works out.

wan72-I've been 3rd fiddle for a long time, dogs and kids have always rotated between 1st & 2nd.

don-thanks for the headlight heads up.  I did not know any of that.  I do not ride at night, but never say never.  I'll it least check it out.

TXLike-thanks for that!

Stig-I'm new here, and I appreciate the way you've reached out with some great info.  I look forward to hopefully add to the mix!  Hey, you mentioned parked next to my HD, well I just happen to have that.....

Jeez scooter pirates, thanks for all the welcoming responses!  Scooter folks are fantastic!

Just to get back on track, I was trying to respond last night, but that was not working.  I was out of town with the wife for a quick overnighter and I was using my ipad with a verizon hot spot thingy, and it was just crappola...

Anyway, just to get this staight, this blue & white luxo limo is my wife's.  She just finished her masters in nurse education, a long 3 years, and the whole time she said she would reward herself and join the scoot society.  She did!

She is a first time rider, no license yet.  Her MSF course is next week.  I know, alot of folks are rolling there eyes about now about a new rider on a new machine...yada, yada...I've heard it all from friends, so save that portion of it.

I'm 54 and have ridden since 12.  Nurse Julie has many, many thousands mile as pillion.  We live in So Cali, and have toured on my BMW RT for many years.  I have lots of dirt and dual sport time under my belt.  Last my I bought my first scooter, a SYM HD 200, and I love this thing!!  I rotate alot of bikes between my shop and home garage, but the SYM is always at home.  Its my first choice to ride, even if its 20 miles up to work.

I don't know if kymco forum mods will allow it, but over on ADV Rider I'm on there as Samthg.  I started a like thread about some of my scooter rides since joining a meetup club over in Long Beach.  The club gets together once a month for a ride somewhere new and interesting, and they have not failed.  But, best of all, just a bunch of good folks in the group that enjoy scootering.

Beautiful! The Like is a classy ride. Best of luck.
Ride safe

I'll be answering for my wife on the response's.

The ride safe will be taken very seriously!

Julie(wife)has riden my dual sport and SYM a few times.   She'll be in MSF school next week.  I'm staying out of the way.

Thanks for the good wishes Momma Bear!

Wife just bought a '14 Like 200lx last week.  We had no plans to finance, but Sheffield has a 1.9 that was tough to pass up.

I understand that Sheffield is a big financier in powers ports

Sam, you have my fav scoot! What color HD did you get?
Identical to yours Stig!
I love my LIKE 200i - it is a great urban scoot! - really - but everything I read about the SYM HD seems to take it all up a notch!
The power of my HD still leaves me shaking my head. Power, top speed - two different leagues between the SYM and the LIKE.
The LIKE is very well made - from China, not Taiwan, under the eyes of KYMCO.
Veteran LIKE owners advised me to:
1) check all nuts, screws, bolts for tightness (mine were perfect)
2) change engine and gear oil upon delivery (put in some good non-synthetic)
3) If you will be riding in the wet -change out the Kendas for something like Michelin City Grips (Kendas long wearing but lousy grip in the wet)
Fantastic suggestions.  You've got some good info in your sig line at the bottom, i'll look into those items.  My wife did want a windscreen, so she ordered Kymco's, which I've read may not be the best, but she'll try it out.

Valves, etc. should be good until the first service - per the manual.
I did the break-in per the manual and my scoot uses no oil. Takes patience, though.
Yep, with new rider wife, it should be babied for awhile.  I'm gunna try to stay off it.
I also think you will find the LIKE 200i much easier to service than is your SYM.
Ride safe - and do send pics of (both~!) scoots when you get the time. A lucky couple~! - with a LIKE and a SYM HD!

My HD...I'm the 3rd owner, 13,500 mi.  Also I have a half-butted thread going over at ADVRider.. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=941261

Stig

My wife just purchased a '14 LX that she'll take delivery on next week.  It's currently being shipped out here to SoCal.

While I have been around bikes my whole life, this is her first.  As a matter of fact, the MSF course for her isn't for a couple more weeks.  She has ridden a couple of my dual sports and also my scoot, but not a whole lot on each.  I bought my first scooter, Sym HD200, last spring.  The older I get(54)the smaller my bikes are getting.  The HD has been a pure joy to ride.

I'm loving the ability of my SYM and I've had some great rides solo and with groups.  I joined a Meetup group out of Long Beach, CA in which we've gone to some places I've never been to.  Good group of folks, these scooter peeps!

I'll get some pics posted as soon as we get the LX home.

Any suggestions as noobs to Kymco?

Thanks for all your informative post's.

Sam
