General Discussion / Re: AK 550 Not starting
« on: July 04, 2023, 10:15:50 PM »
China has nothing to do with it. Kymco is Taiwan (no, not the same in spite of what China would like to believe) and has a good electrical diagram of the AK 550.
Management is Taiwan. Engineering, Design and Manufacturing has been farmed out to the uncles in mainland China.

That is indeed a much better wiring diagram than the uncles have provided for the Like 150i series. but the point remains: active sensors have to have power regardless what position the "COMB SWITCH" is in. Some of that stuff is routed via ECU and/or ABS black boxes and there is no clue what is going on inside of them.

In the past, I've always added a windshield, because the windflow would tend to lift my helmet upward, and chinstrap would put pressure on my chin.  But I've had no such effect with my Like 150i, so I'm good.

Have you gotten past the 1000 mile, 35 MPH break in period  :-\

Among other things they have to keep the clock running. There are other sensors that may be draining power as well ... oxygen, temperature, speed, voltage. Without a accurate wiring diagram (which the uncles in mailine China can not produce) it would require extensive diagnostics with some sophisticated electronics or a great deal of good fortune to identify and eliminate the source(s) of the power drain. A trickle charger is likely the most practical solution.

You could have just shortened the screw and put it back in with some super-glue  ;D

« on: July 03, 2023, 07:22:19 PM »
Good question. It is not covered in either the owner's manual or the service manual. I just went downstairs and checked mine. It reads in "Fahrenheit" (regardless of if ODO is reading miles or kilometers).

By the way I like the color of you machine and I would love to be able to order that rear rack. What is the year and "Model Number" of you bike? Hint the only place that you will find the model number on the bike (and probably the paper work as well) is on that sticker at the bottom right of you ride. Make a note of it for later reference.

I suspect the folks in Canada no more happy about it than you. I can recall driving through forest fires up I-95 along the coast of Florida. Much of the time the flames were licking at the roadway.

I ride electric bikes as well. Between and the Kymco scooter I must have encountered nearly every odd ball fastener head some perverted designer could come up with. In my main tool box I have several large assortments of 1/4 inch (6mm) hex drive bits.

In my travel kit I carry 1/4 ratchet that takes both sq drive and hex drive bits .... along with a "selected" assortment of bits and sockets. That is supplemented by a multi-tip screwdriver and a 6 inch pair of vice-grip pliers and a small crescent wrench.  Add in a 10mm and 12mm ratchet combination wrenches. Anything beyond that goes home or to the shop .... principle reason I will not consider a VESPA or PIAGGIO ... there are no shops for 150 miles.

It is a 100+ degrees outside. heated grips are a solution looking for a problem.

most had windshields, some didn't.
And some started with them and finished without them ... and in some cases only part of them  ;D

There is a big difference.   The Like 150i for example uses a fuel injected 4 valve motor that I don't think you will find on any of the Chinese brands.  Kymco's quality is higher than most of the Chinese scooters but the quality of the Chinese brands vary greatly.  The Like 150i also uses Bosch ABS which you won't find on any of the cheap Chinese models.  Most of the Chinese scooters still have carburetors.
You are not keeping up. The newer Chinese 150 Scooters have the very same 4 valve head, bore and stroke cylinder and fuel body electronic fuel injection. Kymco's Chinese Quality control is sh** ... just look at their service manual for the Like 150i. The Chinese are experts at making things cheaper ... not better. Their electronic parts list does not cover half their product line.

'LiveWire' seems to have taken over the Kymco USA business line(a Harley Davidson electric motorcycle SPAC spinoff). The Kymco US Website no longer even lists their current models .... all they have is some marketing propaganda videos. God only knows how that will work out.

Who told you the Bosch made their ABS system? I would not believe that until I see documentation from Bosch verifying it.

And still in the running?
Yep and the Like 150i finished the rally.

Been watching Quasi's 5 hr vespa engine swap in the parking garage now
FrankenVespa lives ! He finished as well.
I suggested that they change his official number to "69/8" or maybe "69.8"

Wow I couldnt deal with the suspension on my 200i going in my back roads today.  And thats just 5 miles
Ich spreche weder Deutsch noch Tagalog.
However this video seems to imply some parts from a Honda PCX 160 can be used for a Like 150i ... including the shocks. He recommends YSS 365mm Shocks. Might work for the 200 as well.

From what I can tell there is little difference between the Kyco Models and the Generic Chinese scoots other than plastic, branding and price. The running gear (drive train, frame, forks) seems to be the same.

just suggesting take a snap from a couple feet away from the underseat bucket, seat raised, etc.  - shows where the battery in hidden at a glance.
Some of us work best with pics!
Lots of pics though - well done.

Will do ... Thank thee  ;)

Photos are too much of a close-up for me to tell where the battery is .....

Gee that is disappointing. That was a major reason point of post a PDF. I use a computer with dual 24 inch screens but I actually broke out a silly smart-ass phone to check the PDF on it as well.

This is my first attempt at a technical document for the Like 150i. Hopefully there will be more to follow.

https://www.keywild.com/scooter/Kymco150i/Misc/Where%20is%20the%20Battery(optimized).pdf

Yes they will all be PDFs.
I am too old and lazy to write proper HTML code.
