General Discussion / Re: Malossi Store Site
« on: September 13, 2024, 10:26:29 PM »
Malossi store is a direct subsidy of malossi but they use local vendors to fulfill orders I believe.
Your belief is incorrect. Malossi store is a webtool Malossi distributors can use to sell products. It is not a subsidy of Malossi.
You got a decent deal. A little higher than you would have paid for the same items in the US, once you figure out the difference between euros and dollars, but not bad. And if you believe you are buying directly from Malossi, good for you.

Has anyone ordered directly from the Malossi store before? I put in an order, paid, got an error, and now I have a credit charge and no email confirmation of the order or shipping information.

I filled out a contact forum yesterday, hoping it has either went through or they will get in touch. I just wanted to know anyone else’s experience with them. I figured it would have been better than going through a secondary vendor.
If you're in the United States, you did buy from a secondary vendor. The company that distributes Malossi products in Belgium owns Malossistore for the US, and are not in any other way connected to Malossi. Probably paid more than you would have if you bought it in the United States too.

Kymco News / Re: Contacting Kymco USA
« on: November 16, 2023, 11:16:10 PM »
I wasn't thinking about hand guards being stock on the People S 150i. In the pics on the Kymco web site they are clear so easy for some of us older eyes to see.
But since that scooter should have the hand guards as stock it is your dealers responsibility to provide them with the scooter.
From the Kymco USA website- *Note: MSRP does not reflect destination or other dealer vehicle preparation charges. KYMCO USA makes every effort to present the most current specifications and model features. Equipment, colors, availability and specifications may change without notice or obligation. Some models are shown with optional equipment.

If you look at photos of used 2022 models for sale, they don't seem to have the handguards. It may be optional, or they may have put them in some crates, but not others. Who knows. Clear handguards aren't that common.

The air-cooled small Kymcos all use variations on the Chinese GY6 base.
Wrong. Kymco invented the engine. The Chinese "borrowed" it. PGO and SYM also use the engine.

LIKE 200i / Re: Starter motor alternative for kimco like200i cheap

You can buy a Kymco factory quality starter motor made for the Like 200 from one of the top Italian scooter parts companies (RMS 246390140) for $40, bolt it in and call it a day,  or you can buy the cheapest Chinese factory second POS starter motor you can find on Amazon that doesn't quite fit, take it apart and put it in the old starter case, and save $20.
Tough decision.

Downtown 300 / Re: Comparing the Downtown 300i to a new 2022 X-Town 300i
« on: February 20, 2023, 06:20:00 AM »
Thanks Neil.  I think a lot of people pass on the X-Town because of the 276 cc motor.
Most people don't pay attention to that. They pass on it for the same reason Kymco stopped importing a lot of scooters. Nobody buys them. The X-Town has the old Reflex, Xciting engine, and the Downtown has a newer High Output engine Kymco designed in-house after they parted ways with Honda.

Downtown 300 / Re: Don't use every car antifreeze / coolant in your Kymco
« on: February 20, 2023, 06:15:49 AM »
Instead of finding someone on the internet who agrees with someone else on the internet, and may or may not be right, why don't you look in the Owner's Manual for the Downtown 300? Kymco probably knows what sort of coolant is best for your scooter. It's probably Pink.

Downtown 300 / Re: Help me get back to stock variator / clutch
« on: February 20, 2023, 06:12:49 AM »
Hey Guys !

Today I made a long test drive and two issues came up :

1. I have LGE5 clutch - post 2011 model. Clutch engagment RPM is around 2000 which is a little low number by my feeling, I thnik engine is not so happy. I think 3000 RPM would be much better. Clutch disengages at around 2300-2400 when coming down for a stop. At what RPM's clutch enagges in your Kymcos DT 300 ?

2. The power delivery is not smooth at slow accelaration - when coming throu 4500-5500 rpm at throttle open around 50 % I can feel  that acceleration is not constant and something is grabbing a letting bike go in matter of 1-2 seconds. When making start with throttle wide open there is no hesitation with acceleration. Engine runs smooth and there is no misfire , no check engine light.

I think problem is somewhere with  CVT - any suggestions will be much appreciated !
So for reasons that make no sense, you complain about how it performs and your answer is to keep the worn out stock parts and stick the cheapest Chinese sliders in that you could find. And you're surprised that the performance still sucks?

I don't see the point of buying the cheapest part you can find, then taking it apart so  you can make it work. You can buy a high quality starter motor for about $40 and be done with it.

Technical | How To / Kymco AK550 JCosta Variator Installed
« on: November 24, 2022, 02:59:28 PM »
I recently became the proud new owner of an AK550. Someone's decision that it was too much bike was my opportunity.
Because it has less than 1000 miles on it, my inclination was to ride it and see what it needs before I start to modify it. That was until I saw this-

https://scooterpartsco.com/kymco/kymco-ak550/jcosta-variator-for-kymco-ak550

and decided that if it did half of what was claimed, it would be money well pissed away.
It's the JCosta Pro variator. It showed up at my house in less than a week, and everything fit where it was supposed to. But the weather has not cooperated, so I have been able to put a total of maybe 20 minutes on it.
The biggest difference I noticed, in my short jaunts up and down the block  :) is that the throttle response is even smoother, especially accelerating up from a rolling stop. Even taking off is smoother. I can't wait to see if it really does increase the top speed, but that's not a winter sport.
In hindsight, I wonder if I should have gotten the racing version instead.  :)

What else did you replace when you put in the new belt? Usually problems like this are from the installation. A new belt won't do what you describe.

General Discussion / Re: Some OTD Piaggio prices surprise me
« on: September 10, 2022, 03:08:46 AM »
my local dealer ordered a bunch of scooters from Kymco, they told him not available, unless he took a whole container, 80 scooters, that was 7 weeks ago, he's only got a dozen left as of the day I bought mine 10 days ago, and other than mine, they are all fugly green
That's a very strange thing for a dealer to lie about. I've worked with Kymco at the dealer/distributor level, and that's not how it works. Next time you go in, ask him to show you how they fold the scooters in half to get that many into a container.

Downtown 300 / Re: X-Town 300i - Belt Replacement
« on: September 01, 2022, 04:19:22 AM »
Wouldn't surprise me if they aren't all made in China....
Stig
They aren't. And the OEM belts are made by Bando. The cheap belts people keep buying and snapping that say Bando aren't Bando belts.
