Xciting 500 / Slip on exhaust options/drilling options
« on: June 06, 2017, 03:33:12 PM »
Hello,

Back at it again.  Scoot is running great, and now I'm looking to get a little bit of noise out of the exhaust.  I'm looking into drilling the exhaust (as I don't plan on selling this bike) but I'm not sure where to drill or how big.  Everything I've watched on youtube shows people drilling directly into their exhaust through the baffle inside, but if you have actually looked into the 500's stock pipe, it curves downwards, so there's no direct view/access to the baffle.  My next option is a slip on.  I don't care how it looks, or if it's used.  I just want more noise out of this thing.  It's too quiet.  I'm even thinking of straight piping if possible (I know it's horrible for the engine.) ;D

Holy crap, I'm looking at the same scooter, in syracuse, right??

Sqk

Yeah. Auburn Actually.  I bought it last month.  Has been great until a week ago.  The fuel pump died, and the cooling system needs a go through.  It's at the dealer now getting worked on.  They are covering it all, so I'm pretty stoked.

So, my heat gauge was halfway the whole trip.  I first experienced a loss of power, like the engine wasn't revving all the way through it's power band.  I pulled off to the ide of the road, threw it on the center stand, and it revved fine.  No visible smoke or oil.  Got back on, rode maybe 1/2 mile, and I experienced a loss of power again.  I looked in my rear view, and there was a good amount of smoke trailing me, I looked down at my heat gauge, and it was still at the half way marker, so at this point I'm thinking it's an issue with my clutch/belt.  I pull over, and put the scoot on the center stand, and pulled the key out.  This is the weird part...Once I stopped, there was smoke definitely coming from the front portion of the engine, and not the crank case.  Once I noticed this, I put the key back in the ignition, and turned the instrument cluster on.  Immediately I was greeted by the sound of a fan of some sort, I didn't notice that before, ever, as well as my heating gauge being buried in the red.  At this point, I noticed some oil under the scooter.  A 2 half dollar sized spot below.  I rubbed my finger in it, and it was most definitely oil.  At this point I was worried the engine would seize, and I called it quits.  Called a tow truck, and I got towed back.  This is 2+ hours later.  Once in the garage, I checked the dip stick and there is definitely oil in the engine.  Without screwing the dipstick in after whipping, there was an 1/4 inch of oil on the filled indicator.  Screwed in, it was all the way up. I put the key in to try to start it up, and it fired right up (YAY NO SEIZE!!!)  and I turned it off.  I just got this machine from a dealer on a trade in for my 2013 super 8.  I'm going to see if I can get some sort of fix in place at no cost to me, because I have had it for less than 40 days, and the odo has less than 50 from when I got it.  As for the coolant, I know there's a little slot on the left side, and it looked to be in good form.  2/3 of the way full from the looks of it.  One thing I will say, is the fan I heard initially, I think is having issues.  I'm about ready to bite the bullet and buy a motorcycle.  I couldn't see where the oil was coming from.  The center stand brackets were covered in it.  I haven't been into the guts of this scoot yet, so I don't know where anything is, very frustrating.  Thanks for reading!

Made my first attempt of a highway ride I'm about 30 miles.  At the 25 mile mark I experienced a loss of power overheating and when I stopped I saw that I had leaked oil.  At this point I got a tow back to homebase. $225 later and I'm home safe. Have any of you experience this sort of issue? If so please let me know, or if you have any ideas what could've caused this also let me know! Thanks and happy scootering!

Xciting 500 / Re: Weird Stalling issue
« on: March 23, 2017, 03:35:35 AM »

Thats what I was thinking. When your first crank it, the choke is on supplying extra fuel to the carb. at idle. Once it warms up, the choke is off. Try turning the idle screw up and it would not hurt to run a little Seafoam through the carb to clean it up a little.

That's the puzzling thing. The idle screw is tightened as far as it will go.  :-\

Xciting 500 / Weird Stalling issue
« on: March 22, 2017, 01:11:19 PM »
Hello xciting peeps. So I got my 2007 500 Carb version. It cold starts without issue it seems (the first start is a bit rough, but I get it to start below 40 F.) my issue is once I get it started and get it warmed up (gauge is about half way) and I let it idle, the RPM's drop below 1000 and the bike coughs and dies. It will start at a tap of the starter, but then die again. Now what I have tried is riding around. Took the bike for a 15 minute ride around town, it will die at stop lights and stop signs and sometimes even going down hills when it's slow enough without engine braking. This concerns me for safety reasons. Once I get it back in my driveway I park it, do a quick wipe down, and then pull it into the garage. This is what puzzles me. Once I start it again, the thing idles clean. Doesn't stall, doesn't cough. I'm so Confused. Any ideas?

Are the cold start issues just related to the fuel injected versions of the 500?

The business is closing and he doesn't sell sh** for scoots (rural ny). I don't crank in anything less than 60 F. Is that considered cold?  Lol

I live in Syracuse NY. It gets cold but I winterize. I don't ride unless it's warm.  Does this scoot have trouble storing in the cold??

Hello scooter peeps. So I have a 2013 Super 8 150. It has 18xx miles. The only thing I've done to it is change the exhaust to a Yoshi TC racing and had the card re-jetted to match the change in fuel/air. So my dealer has a 2007 Kymco 500 with almost 8000 miles on it. The dealer had explained the that the previous owner dropped it due to not being able to handle the weight. So it has some scuffs and scrapes but they assure me it's mechanically sound and up to date on services and such. They want 700 cash or a straight up trade for my kymco 150. Would you take this deal from a Kymco dealer? If it was a private deal I would be wary, but I'm itching to get something bigger that what I have.

Super 8 150 / New super 8 questions.
« on: March 13, 2015, 12:58:05 AM »
Hey Gents! I hope everyone is having a safe warm winter. I noticed the super 8 has two new models. Both of which have some different stuff going on. My question: on the Super 8 X, do you think those extra nobby tires would fit on my 2013 s8? Do you think those nobby tires are a bad idea(because the are nylon)? Also, do you think it's possible to get the seat and naked handle bar configuration?  I'm envious already. Give me your thoughts!

Super 8 150 / How long will you ride WOT?
« on: May 14, 2014, 06:44:15 PM »
After your scoot was broken in, how long do you feel comfortable riding with the throttle wide open? Is it bad for the scoot to be wide open on flat roads for long distances?

Thanks!
