Still haven't had time to look at the bike crazy work with this crazy rain we have been getting but managed to talk to my buddy I bought the bike from and he said he replaced the return spring before. Maybe I can get to the bottom of this tomorrow since I'll have the day off.

Venox 250 / tranny wont shift
« on: May 12, 2014, 12:22:01 AM »
So I've had what seems to be a ton of problems with my 03 venox but I have managed to get them all fixed except for this shifting issue.I had the bike running for a few days and drove it maybe 3miles of the course of those days. And one day I couldn't get the bike to go into neutral so I did some poking around and noticed the tie rod from the shifter pedal was bent so with a few good pushes with a block I got it straight and it started shifting in all gears fine. The next day same thing happened couldn't get it into neutral so I noticed the tie rod was bent again. This time I straightened it and started shifting thru all gears by hand without actually riding it. Then it got stuck in 2nd gear. Left it alone for a week and after changing fluids because of a bad petcock getting gas in the crankcase, it shifted up to 3rd and is stuck again. When trying to shift it the shifter returns to center goes up and down. Going down it moves very easily like its not attached to anything and when shifting up it seems like it's trying to go into gear but doesn't completely. Any idea what is wrong. I'm hoping it's not internal

Yea I changed the oil and filter. That was the first thing I did. I'm going to get a new shifter linkage and the return spring. So the return spring could stop the bike from shifting? I've never had to mess with a return spring b4

Got the fuel problem fixed. Got the bike running she sounds better then ever. But still stuck in gear. I got it to upshift once but now it's stuck in 3rd gear.

I found what everyone is talking about. So do I need to replace the fuel tank petcock because if so I can't find it at any local parts store here. A buddy of mine told me to use an inline fuel shutoff valve and it would fix the problem is that true.

But the shifter linkage was also bent forgot to put that in there. I actually haven't rode it but about 3miles. Never had it running good enough to actually drive it. I changed the oil before I ever did anything to the bike. And when the tranny got stuck I was going thru the gears by hand wasn't riding it. And haven't messed with it at all until today when I noticed the engine was completely full of oil gas mixture. I opened the oil filler cap and it just flowed out

So fellas I haven't messed with the bike in a few days and decided to today hoping I could figure out why the tranny is stuck in gear and won't go out. The clutch is good but can't get it to change to any gear. My oil light came on so I decided to look into the issue and behold the engine is full of gas. Gotta bad float in one of the carbs. Guess I'll be getting the carbs rebuilt soon. But anyway do any of u fellas think that the motor being full of gas will stop the tranny from shifting. And no I haven't started it or tried driving it, I know it can damage the engine

So I go to adjust my mixture screws and when I got them to where the bike was running good I would give the bike gas and the mixture screw would tighten back in. And to make matters worse I can't get the bike to shift out of 2nd gear. It won't shift down or up. I've never had this many problems with a bike before I'm getting to frustrated.

Thanks zombie I'm gonna go do that in a few it's pretty hot out here in west Texas. Plus I need to find my offset screwdriver to get to the mixture screws

So I went thru the carbs again. Now she starts up but I have to give it just a little gas to keep it running. The idle screw is turned all the up but still seems to idle to low. I haven't messed with the mixture screws at all. Do y'all think that is the problem. Any ideas
