People 250 / Place engine oil in the final drive??
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:27:31 AM »
I like my P250. Now is my everyday drive. Decided to sell my Suzuki Boulevard C50 (still selling), and go completely automatic. Got myself a 2008 Honda Silver Wing for longer tours just last week. The recommended final gear oil for Silver Wing is just the same as the engine oil. First I could not believe it, but difference sources seem to confirm that it was fact, yes just one kind of oil for both engine and final drive.

I put the gear oil in my P250 final drive as our manual suggested. Thought to myself, it would be wonderful if I could just use one kind of oil for both. So, I don't have to keep those pints of gear oil around. Has anyone used engine oil in their Kymco's final drive?

What's the difference between these 2 oils?
What's the difference in the final gears between Kymco and Honda?

Curious mind wanted to know.  Thank you a bunch. :D

People 250 / Is there longer sidekick stand?
« on: August 22, 2009, 06:03:15 AM »
In my garage, i always put a piece of 2x4 under the sidestand for my P250. The sidestand seems too short for my taste. It makes the scooter leaning too much. Would like to see if I could find a longer one or somehow extend the length 1.5" longer. So the P250 won't lean that much when parked.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

People 250 / How often cleaning the oil screen?
« on: August 19, 2009, 09:42:27 AM »
My second oil change at 1199km. This time after draining the oil, also accessed to the oil screen. The screen was pretty clean. Have a couple questions related to this.

1. How often does the screen needs to be clean?

2. Anybody change oil via the oil screen plug only? (i.e. if you have to clean the screen every time).

Thanks.

I'll tell you what I did to get storage up front.
a simple fanny pack. You can put a pad and pen,
camera, letters to be mailed, I have found all
sorts of things to put in my fanny pack and it fits
around the windshield brackets just fine. and hangs
down right in front of you for easy access.

That actually was a good idea. So, I brought my fanny back to my People 250. Well, did  not seem to have a place to attach to. Do you happen to have a picture of yours to share? or maybe my bag is a bit bigger than yours. Thanks.

Underseat storage was ok, but have to shut down the engine and turn the key to release.

The P250 allows you to open the underseat without shutting off the engine. Simply push the key in, and turn to the left.
.

Thank you. I tried it this morning. It actually worked. That took care of at least 80% of the problem. Any other nice tricks that I need to know about .... :D

People 250 / Ideas for small items up front?
« on: August 12, 2009, 05:22:58 AM »
Would like to have a small setup in the front area for carrying small items. I put a T-box on my 2006 P250, it's good for rain gears and tools etc. But it requires the key to open and close. Underseat storage was ok, but have to shut down the engine and turn the key to release. I go to Post Office everyday, most of the time with few regular letters in hand. So, currently I just hang a small bag on the hook to take care of these letters. it works, but sometimes just left the bag there, one day, somebody will just take it.....
Besides, will like to see if I can put a bottle of water in the area. The bag will do, but hanging by that hook only, it just swings both ways when the scooter turns, and I don't really like it. Hope the setup will be more secure. Please share with me if you have put something there to help out with your small items. Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Re: How many keys w/new KYMCO?
« on: August 02, 2009, 07:19:26 AM »
I believe it should come with 2 keys. I have 2 for my 2006, but to my surprise there was only Kymco logo on the keys no any other codes on keys. My Suzuki and Honda keys were with codes. So if you lost them, you can just go to dealer provide the code, they can just make one for you. For Kymco, I guess if you have only one key. You better check with the dealer to see if you can have one spare made. Just in case.

I used to have a 87 Honda Super Magna that I have only one key. Lost the key (found it 3 months too later) when I promised somebody that he could come and pick it up. Had to take the ignition assemble unit off the bike to the dealer and made 2 keys for the new owner. Ever since, I was in the habit of writing down the code number once I have the key(s) of any vehicles.

As for Kymco, I highly recommend you to check with the dealer for a spare as soon as possible. Believe me you don't want to wait till you actually need the spare..... >:(

Mine is Wine Red. With just 480km on the meter. Made it to 970km yesterday. Yes, it is real fun riding it. Sat in the garage most of the time in 3 years. Put about the same miles in less than 3 weeks. I bet the scooter is happy too. This is my casual ride, regular shoes were Ok. Just put a helmet on my head crank and go. For my other bikes, have to wear boots that were a lot for just hop and go riding. Love this People 250. Yes, I am in Houston where you don't have to winterlize your bikes. How nice.....

People 250 / Re: Noisy front brakes
« on: July 20, 2009, 12:12:26 AM »
If the brake pads are glazed (from some hard stops and/or heat) this probably continue. Down load a manual (old post some where on this Kymco forum site). remove the pads-note location of parts, bolts, etc. Sand the surfaces that contact the brake rotor (2 brake pads per rotor -on either side of rotor. use 80 or 100 grit paper on a flat surface. THEN when reinstalling but a small amount of silicon sealer (gell) on the BACK side of the brake pad that contacts the caliper piston/cup.Squeeze brake lever to make contact complete.let sit overnight. NOTE!!! DO NOT get any on the brake surface that contacts the rotor. This procedure usually will squelch the worst brake pad noises. Hope this helps.
I took the advice AXY gave me. Seems to reduce the most noise to the minimum. Had to do it a couple of times though. Then, over the weekend, put on my ear plugs, and enjoyed riding here and there. Love this scooter. The brakes functioning Ok. The noisy not bother me anymore. But if for any reason, they start to come back. Then the sanding surface will be the next. Thank you for your help.
Love this forum, lots of help here. Thank you all.

Fluid change will not improve this noise, over the decades of motoring/scootering I have noticed it has to do with dirt buildup around pads and type of pads you use. Also, sometimes it gets better or worse depending on the wear. If I were you and provided that everything is OK with the brakes, I would use the compressor to blow out the dust and dirt and get over it.

Thank you Axy,

You maybe right to the point. With only 636 Km on the meter, the OEM pads should still be good. Will give the compressor a little work to do. Hope that will take care of the problem.

People 250 / Noisy front brakes (Solved, Thanks)
« on: July 16, 2009, 04:55:08 AM »
Just got my new ride 2006 People 250. A tiny problem that bother me a bit. The front wheel is making noises. The brakes are functioning well. Seems to me that the brake pads might be hitting the rotor. Not causing any overheat or the like. But when I am on the quiet road during the night. The sound is there. Any solutions? Thanks in advance.
BTW, the brake fluid is pretty dark, I am planning to change the fluid over the weekend. Hope maybe reduce the noise a bit.
