If it's been derestricted it should have a #82 jet. The only way to find out is to take off the carb, take out the jet and look. Mine had been derestricted when I bought it (CDI wire cut, variator boss replaced). I did find and 82 jet in there too when I looked. I tried an 85 to see if there was any difference and there wasn't (I'm using the stock air filter).

You can find a bunch of scooter trunks on eBay. You should be able to find one for $50, but whether it will take your full face helmet or not is hard to say. My full face helmet fits fine under the seat, so I guess it partly depends on the make of the helmet. Mine is a Scorpion EXO-700 size large.

I have a Givi E26 trunk which will also take the helmet. It's $70 though - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Givi-E26NC-S-Top-Case-with-Brake-Light-/280782916633?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415ff74c19&vxp=mtr. $70 for a Givi with a built in stop light is still a pretty good price.

I suspect that you'll get more performance improvement by tuning the CVT (rollers, sliders of the optimum weight, springs etc.) than from air filter changes

The only way you are ever really going to figure out if an 82 jet is better is to put one in and see. It's not all that hard to do.

I haven't rejetted an Agility 50 but I have rejetted and tuned a number of motorcycles. To do it right you have to do plug chops at wide open throttle to see if you're rich or lean (or have enough experience to tell from the way the bike responds) Also, in order to take full advantage of larger jets (probably larger than 82) - or even a larger carb - you may have to change the air filter system and exhaust system.

Really, the quickest way to find out if an 82 jet is better or not is to put one in and see. All the theory in the world can't replace one simple experiment. And it is a 50cc scooter. It's never going to be a rocket.

I'd again comment that I think 7.5 gm sliders are heavier than is normally recommended. Typically the optimum weight for a slider is less than that for rollers. Too heavy means it gets in to top gear faster, so you get slower acceleration and worse performance on hills.

Agility 50 / Re: Is derestricting CDI safe for the motor ??
« on: September 17, 2014, 01:56:07 PM »
As you say, cutting the wire doesn't remove the rev limiter. It just changes it from 7500rpm to 8500rpm (or maybe 9000 rpm). It's still rev limited and won't damage the engine. If you don't derestrict the CDI you'll be limited to a lower speed, even though at 8500rpm you'e past the peak of the powerband.

Are you 100% sure you put the sliders in the right way around? I made the mistake of installing sliders (6gm) incorrectly once and performance was terrible. Also, 7.5 gm might be a little heavy for sliders - could be putting you into a higher gear more quickly than is best for acceleration.

If the scooter will do 45, it's not really low on power. It's unlikely the variator was assembled wrong either since you'd have to pretty much be in "top gear" (cones togther) to get to that speed. Now that you can get to a higher gear, maybe that's slowing down your acceleration? If so you may need to change the variator roller weights.

Agility 50 / Re: Rear turn signal replace with leds

I don't know what type of flasher circuit the Agility uses, but bikes with thermo-mechanical flashers often can't use LEDs. LEDs don't draw enough current to activate the flasher mechanism. You need an electronic flasher system for LEDs.

I'd check the fuel lines for leaks. Mine (2012) doesn't smell of gas at all when parked in a closed garage. and it shouldn't.  It's unlikely to be the gas cap, but I guess it's possible if it's defective (or not closed). I presume you didn't overfill it and spill gas which is still evaporating.

If you can't figure it out yourself, get your dealer to look at it. It could be a safety issue if you have a leak.

My first guess would be a carb issue, possibly a blocked main jet. If it idles, the idle jet is OK, but if it won't run when the throttle is opened it could be the main jet that's blocked.

Agility 50 / Re: Idle Speed

It's not sealed now! The seal is just a metal cap over the mixture screw. To remove it you drill a small hole on it, then pull it out using a self tapping screw in the hole. Comes out fairly easily. The OEM Kymco carb is probably better quality than 90% of the Chinese made aftermarket carbs so I don't really see a need to replace it. Without making other modifications (air filter, exhaust etc.) I wouldn't expect a 20mm carb would make much performance difference, but if it would I'd be interested to hear other's experience.

I'll come up with something I'm sure. It will be a month or so before I can try though since I'm off on a trip now. I'll followup on this post when I make more progress.

It's stock with the OEM carb as far as I know. The EPA got stricter as time went by so I assume at some point they required the mixture screw to be sealed off so owners couldn't easily mess with it.

Found my tamper proof bit set but it doesn't have any suitable bits, just torx, hex, modified phillips (3 and 4 vane) and spanner types. I'll have to look for the right bit or make something up.

That's what I'm trying to do now. The idle mixture adjustment screw was sealed with a metal cap. I've finally removed it, but the adjustment screw looks like it needs a special tool to turn it. The head isn't a slot, it seems to be a raised metal square which will need a very small tool with a square hole in it to turn it. There's no room to try to get a pair of needle nosed pliers in there.

I guess this is done to stop you messing with it (for emissions control purposes). I've had the same thing on a motorcycle where the mixture screw was sealed off to prevent tampering. That one didn't need a special tool to turn it though.

It may be a standard tamper proof screw, but since I can't find my tamper proof bit set at the moment I can't tell. When I find it I'll try the adjustment!

Agility 50 / Idle Speed
« on: August 10, 2014, 03:06:38 AM »
My Agility 50 starts fine and idles at around 2000 rpm as per the specifications. However after it's warmed up the idle speed raises to around 3000 to 3200 rpm. It's also a little slow to drop to that 3000 rpm.

If I adjust the idle of the warmed up bike to 2000 rpm it idles fine and runs fine, but when it's cooled down and I restart it starts OK with a little throttle applied, but it dies when I let go of the throttle (idle speed is too low). To get it to idle at 2000 rpm I have to adjust the idle speed back to 2000 rpm (idle screw all the way in).

Any ideas what might be wrong? I'm not 100% familiar with how the automatic "choke" system (auto bystarter) is supposed to work, so could there be a problem with that. Starting isn't an issue so I assume it's enriching the mixture OK, but maybe it's not increasing the idle speed like it should (presuming it should)?

Agility 50 / Re: Play in transmission?
« on: August 07, 2014, 03:30:29 AM »
I don't know what else has been done! It's been derestricted (CDI wire cut) and the variator boss is uniform. I haven't taken the carb out to see what jets are in it. I also don't know what the real speed is yet. I suspect it's reading at least 5mph fast based on it showing about 30mph going though one of those speed display radar traps when the speedometer showed around 35mph. The indicted 50mph is downhill of course. Not sure what speed it will reach on the flat. When I get the chance I'll do a GPS speed check.

Based on how the Agility feels at an indicated 50mph, I wouldn't want it to go any faster! In fact it doesn't feel all that safe at an indicated 50 mph. On my motorcycle 50 mph is just gentle cruising. On the Agility at that speed I don't have a good feeling!

Thanks. I haven't changed the transmission oil yet, but I checked the level and the small amount of oil that came out when I removed the filler plug looked to be in pretty decent shape (not grey and metallic!).

Once I managed to get the sliders in the right way round, going from the rollers to the 6g sliders gave me about 5 mph in top speed (indicated 45 to indicated 50) and significantly better performance going up steep hills, so I'll probably keep them. It's worth it even if I have to replace the variator at some point. Whether I could have gotten the same performance increase with new rollers (the old ones had flat spots) I don't know. I'm using KOSO (Taiwan) sliders, which I think are pretty good quality.
