Just wondering if anyone has replaced the fuel filter on their GV250.
If so, which filter did you use?
The factory filter doesn't look like anything special but if there is Id like to know.
Thanks

Meanwhile its perfectly OK to drive around in a 3/4 ton diesel truck belching out all sorts of black soot and sulphur dioxide. :o

In this case cleaning the pilot jet has been avoided by installing a brand new one, size 38 same as stock.
There must be a stock float height setting.
I distinctly remember reading about one persons confusion as he looked up the correct settings in the Kymco manual and that they didn't physically match what could be achieved.
I will search for that soon.

My GV 250 doesn't seem lacking in power when on the main jet, accelerates nicely above 4500 rpm.
But..the annoying stumble at about 3000-4500 is proving to be a nuisance so Id like to remedy that.
First I looked at the spark plug and it seems to be running too rich.
When I pulled the carb out again today I noticed or re-noticed I should say, that the float bowl and upper carb body are not aligned in the "usual" fashion.
Maybe Im not up to speed on newer carbs but this carb is cut or bisected at an angle rather than horizontally like most other carbs Ive seen.

Im thinking that trying to get a good/proper/exact float height measurement would be rather problematic on such a carb.
Didn't I see a post about carb float height in which the author was perplexed by the numbers the manual states vs working reality in the carb?
Something about 17 mm and 19mm vs 7 and 9mm?
Any help in getting the float set properly is much appreciated.
Mike Nixon has posted a good clear video on youtube concerning how floats work.

Hi All,

My new to me 12 days ago '04 GV 250 is now up and running.
Thanks to mrbios for his help, as well as others.

I did the unthinkable Wednesday, embarrassing really. I pulled the carb off to extract the jets, pedaled 8 miles to the motorcycle shop to get new jets, pedaled back and by that time I guess my mind was disconnected from where I had left off earlier because as I grasped the carb I somehow twisted and lifted at the same time and snapped the float in half forgetting that I had left the vulnerable float assembly on the carb without the protection of the float bowl installed...pure dummy maneuver.

The float lay there now in 2 pieces sitting there right before my eyes. What an impatient dummy I thought, now I will have to wait 2 weeks for another one.
Ive made plenty of mistakes in 36 yrs of wrenching on my own bikes but that one made me pause and THINK.

Fast forward to Thursday evening at Columbia Scooters in Portland and low and behold they sold me the only one they had, a used one. Installed and running, Im a lucky guy and grateful to Columbia Scooters that they even considered selling me a used part because a lot of businesses wont.

Had a blast today, ran all over the Portland/Beaverton area for hours on end without so much as the fabled stumble/bog just above 3-4 grand rpm. Upon reaching 4500-5000 rpm it takes off with plenty of power, actually quite impressive to me that this humble 250 rips along like it does. Ive owned literally dozens of motorcycles of all sorts over the years  and few of them had the power to weight ratio this scooter does.
The small wheels will still take some adjusting on my part but I bicycle at least 30 miles per week year round so its not a totally foreign feeling.

Well done Kymco! Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention..I was entranced by the 2013 Downtown 300I on the showroom of the dealership, wow!

Mr Bios, First things first...THANKS for your timely input, I am determined to get this scooter running by tomorrow for a couple of days of vacation..riding rather than wrenching.

Spent some more time in the garage today trying to figure it out.
The slide seems to function fine, lift it up let it drop and it drops slowly while sucking air.
I did take the top off the carb and gently lube the diaghram.

As an experiment I grabbed the air intake tube and squeezed it to restrict air while it was running and sure enough the revs came up under throttle. Let go of the air intake and the revs fall and it wont rev past 5 thou.
I need to go to work now but Im not going to stop thinking about this. I will check back here after work, 3 AM or so, I really want to be riding this scooter soon.
Do you know where I can find a "map" of the carb hoses..fuel intake, float bowl overflow and such, any CLEAR pics that show where the various carb hoses connect would be great. I looked at the online Kymco manual and didn't see anything very useful just a shot from above that has no detailed routing.

Thanks again
Phil
I want to make sure they are all in the right place.

This morning I looked very carefully and long at the engine bay and cant see where the U shaped hose should attach at the smaller end.
At the larger end it is attached to the exhaust recirculation unit?

I took several pics, none will load because they are too big, no success in resizing down to fit.
I just discovered a post in 2013 by tonytode? that has a pic of the hose on question.

Fast Forward to August 2014
These are exactly the same vacuum lines/hoses I am trying to make sense of on my 2004 GV.

Symptom: wont rev past 5/6 k

Air filter is fine
Removed and cleaned the carb float bowl and jets
The jets are not clogged in any way, ok so they are not ultra shiny new as some would suggest they need to be but they are unrestricted.

The question remains: where does the hose with the U shaped bend go?
I understand its some sort of exhaust recirculation bit, my question is where does it physically attach?
To the carb intake manifold? Ive looked all over in there with a bright light, still don't see anything.
It does seem to be drawing air when the engine is running.

I purchased my first scooter, a 2004 Grand Vista about a week ago.
The small wheels, as compared to a motorcycle, will take some getting used to.
My other bike is a Kawasaki KLR 650, quite a bit different as far as ride height.
I have to straighten out a few fuel related issues in order to get some real miles logged but so far the few 6-8 mile rides I have taken are a blast, looking forward to more real soon!

Ooops, I meant to say the RIGHT side of the engine bay.
It seems to have a larger diameter "sheathing" or outer cover on it.
Id really like to know where that tube goes.
I will upload a pic when I get home from work tonight.

Right and Left orientations are assuming that the rider is astride the bike facing forward, at least that is what I was taught early on.

Thanks

Thanks, the videos are good
Ive taken a number of carbs apart in my day, don't call myself an expert but im sure I can deal with this scooter without screwing it up and tearing any sensitive rubber parts if I can successfully remove and rebuild Goldwing carbs..LOL

I looked at my internal carb jets today, nothing clogged, a little sediment.
Cleaned it all up, reinstalled it and started it up..same problem exists, wont rev past idle.
Still have another hose left u8nconnected, its a U shaped junction on the left side of engine bay.
Any pics or info greatly appreciated

My new to me, 2004 Grand Vista seems to have fuel starvation/delivery problems.
Warm up from a cold start is fine so the enricher seems work but when I open the throttle it wont rev past 4-5 thou before bogging and sometimes dying.
I replaced the factory fuel filter days after I bought it. The new filter is a clear type so you can see fuel moving through it.
There are numerous vacuum hoses running around that engine bay, where can I find a "map" of those hoses?
There is a hose, a very short one, coming off the top left of the carb that when pinched closed seems to allow the carb to work better and the engine revs all the way up.
Should this hose be connected to something? It has been cut off at an angle very deliberately so I don't think its damaged.
Thanks
