Downtown 300 / Re: Engine oil mesh filter? and Spark plug question
« on: August 19, 2021, 10:58:35 PM »
You need either a "sparkplug socket" or use the one in the tool kit supplied with the bike. The tool kit is USUALLY strapped to the underside of the seat toward the rear.

You said you cleaned the oil screen. But wonder where the mesh filter is located. Well, there is a screen strainer thingy behind that black plastic 17 mm hex head bolt-lookin' thing just forward of the oil drain. Now, an oil screen, I need to learn where that is...

Ah! Okay, yeah that black bolt next to the oil drain bolt is what I cleaned.  I thought that was the oil screen.  Okay, so yeah where is the Oil Screen?? haha

Downtown 300 / Engine oil mesh filter? and Spark plug question
« on: August 19, 2021, 07:15:33 PM »
Sorry for all the noob questions but looking at my manual, I see Engine Oil, Engine oil Filter, Engine Oil screen and oil mesh filter.  I've replaced the oil, filter, and cleaned the screen but what the heeck is the mesh filter ? and where can I find it?

And secondly, the spark plug is in such a difficult place to reach and since it extends out, I'm guessing I can't use the typical socket to remove.  Do I need to buy like an elongated socket thing that has a deep ... I don't really know the name of it but something long that can extend past the spark plug in order to remove it? Or do I need to find a small mini wrench ?

Thanks guys

Oh I see, I thought they would be a universal size.  I guess I'll have to open the seat up again.

Thank you!

EDIT:  Figured it out.

10000 miles for the CVT belt?! 20000 km?

Just checked my owner's manual (real paper one!) and 20000 km/12000 miles. Okay, I'll give you a typo! But that is insanely short! While it will definitely sell parts 20000 MILES is more realistic.

My original DT300i had 22000 miles after an extensive 8-900 mile round trip to Cumberland Gap. Opened the CVT to inspect and found the mice had completely blocked the airflow into the belt housing. The belt was still continuous and still worked but missing many "teeth!" Had it not overheated it would have lasted another 10000 miles at least.

Yes, I am that cheap! Har, har!

The shop did mention that the belt needed to be replaced at 12k miles. I don't really ride it very  much, 10k miles over 7 years.  I'll take a look at it when I remove my seat again.

So look for missing "teeth"?

Which way are you turning the drain plug to remove it?!

The shop should charge you $1000 USD to "go through" your machine to "see if anything needs fixed or replaced." That is an open invite to dismantle the entire bike!

Isn't it tighty righty lefty loosey?

Or, wait, if I am looking at the bike, i am turning the wrench to the right, or counter clockwise.  Yeah that should be correct, right? haha.

Remove and measure your current battery.
Take measurements to Walmart,  auto parts store, Amazon. ....buy best you can afford.
Work from measurement,  not a chart for sure results.

I hate that there is only one service center in my area.  They can price gouge like crazy.  How can service cost 1/5 the price of the scooter?

I'm finally at 10k miles, and have done oil changes and transmission oil changes every 3-4k.  I figure at 10k I should get it checked and looked over to make sure nothing needs to be "fixed" or replaced but for 1k I'd rather just youtube it and do it myself.

Anything I should look for specifically?  I'm getting my tires replaced, the second time in 10k miles, and definitely swapping out my battery.  Brake fluid still looks good.  I ordered a new air filter since that looks super easy to do myself.  What would you guys recommend I change?  Spark plugs? Since the seat will be out anyways.

Side note. My oil lug nut is stuck or too tight. The last time I changed my oil was 3k miles ago, but that was easily 3 years or so ago.  I plan on spraying it with WD-40 hoping it'll work but if that doesn't work, any other options other than taking it to a shop that has a powered gun?

Thanks all!

Sometime it takes my DT300i awhile to start, it cranks and cranks and finally once it starts I have to "rev" it or else it will die immediately.

What is the issue?  I think the long cranks is due to the battery because if I charge my bike with my tender, it starts right away.  I plan on replacing the battery immediately.

Can someone please link me a battery from amazon or ebay that fits in a 2014 Downtown 300i

I'm not looking for anything high performance. I just want something reliable and works.  My DT300i needs to be trickle charged a lot in order to start every time I ride now.  So I will just replace the battery

Thank you !

Downtown 300 / Re: Should I worry about this tire?
« on: September 22, 2016, 05:47:48 AM »
thanks for the advice.

took it to my dealer, had to pay $90 for the tire and another $90 to install it.  Seems expensive but I guess I was desperate.

Kind of surprised the original tire only lasted 5000 miles.  Oh well.

Downtown 300 / Should I worry about this tire?
« on: September 21, 2016, 06:13:50 AM »
So yesterday I went to my local gas station to fill up the air on my tires.  When I went to plug the nozzle onto my air valve, it never properly latched on so basically it started to drain air out of my tire.  The more I tried to get the nuzzle onto the valve, the more the air would release.  By the time I figured the thing was broken, my tire was down to 18 PSI down from 28 PSI.

I ended up having to drive my bike the next block over to the other gas station to use their air pump.  I managed to pump my tire back to the recommended 32 PSI.

This morning, I went to check my tire and noticed this.  Is this something I should worry about?  Did this happen because I drove on a fairly flat tire?  Or has this been there for awhile now?  I don't think my tires are in need of replacing just yet but this part of the tire worries me.  It's only this little strip the rest of the tire is normal.  My bike has roughly 5200 miles on it.

I'm paranoid now that my tire will blow while I am on the freeway.  Should I just have it replaced?

thanks

Downtown 300 / Re: RAM Mount... but where to mount?
« on: July 22, 2016, 03:12:24 AM »
I put my RAM mount right on the handlebar. It compressed the plastic a bit, but that was all. Makes for a non-slip surface that way, too.

I've tried putting a camera on my handle bar before.  Didn't it feel like it was taking up too much space, and your hand could only grip a small portion?  It felt unnatural and unstable, but I guess I just have really big hands.

I just recently mounted my iPhone 6+ , this is how I have it

And thanks for these pictures.. I think I will just use that type of setup.  Was this what you ordered?

thats the closest thing I could find to resemble what you have.

Downtown 300 / RAM Mount... but where to mount?
« on: July 21, 2016, 08:04:06 AM »
Where exactly can you mount a RAM mount on the DT?

There is no bar in the center, and the handle grip would make it impossible to grip onto... I can't find a logical place to put it without having to buy a center bar.

I am looking for a place to mount either a phone or a go-pro.

thanks

Downtown 300 / Re: DC Volt Adapter inside left compartment
« on: December 08, 2015, 06:20:08 AM »
thanks for the replies... is there a video on how to take off the panel?  or is it pretty self explanatory?  I haven't attempted it yet but, I don't want to do something and have trouble putting everything back together.

And why would they use a .08 fuse?  is that even strong enough to handle charging a cell phone?  What fuse would you recommend for it to handle most electronics that charge via usb port?

Does this thing work at all?  I tried one of my car chargers with usb ports to charge my cell phone, and it didn't do anything.

Or is the fuse broken?  Where are the fuses?  I looked in the manual to no avail.

I couldn't find a DIY or anything regarding this.. can anyone help?
