General Discussion / People S250
« on: April 25, 2017, 03:07:00 PM »
I have a 2010 People S250 for sale with less than 2700 miles on it. It was bought new on March 23, 2016 from a dealer on the Indiana border with Illinois, new old stock. All the miles were puy on during the summer of 2016. I love the bike but medical conditions keep me from riding ever again. Eight surgeries on my shoulder left me without a shoulder joint, can't ride one handed. The MSRP was $4999 and I am asking $2200, pictures can be seen on craigslist, https://bn.craigslist.org/mcy/6064250671.html. Never been down, only synthetic oils used, comes with cover and two spare air filters.

People 250 / Re: S250 i.e. COLD start problem
« on: August 29, 2016, 03:34:48 PM »
I bought a new 2010 S250 just this last March, new old stock, and the cold start is funny, fires right off and after about a minute it dies and I have a heck of a problem getting it to restart and keep running. Dealer said carb needs cleaned but it runs like a top once it is warmed up. They did finally order a new choke for it but waiting for cool weather to have it installed to see if that works. Even in warm weather the engine is really cold blooded, tends to stall on acceleration until RPMs are up to about 2000.

Columbia Scooter in Portland is still a good bet for parts, everytime I ordered they had it in stock and shipped the next day. My Kymco required so few parts I haven't used them for about a year now.

I am 5' 10" and 304, I had a People 150 that I put 12,000 miles on before trading it for a 250. I really loved the 150 very agile in traffic and around town, it would go 50 to 55 without any wind or hills. The Super 8  150 would probably be a good fit for you unless you want to travel on major highways or hill climb.

Congratulations, I worked 38 yrs. at a job that I loved, can't imagine not enjoying going to work each day. The mobile repair idea sounds great, here we have trouble finding a reputable mechanic for scooters. In the winter just pray they have a garage to keep you out of the elements. Take care and keep them knees to the breeze.

Technical | How To / Re: Unending exhaust leak Kymco People 150
« on: February 15, 2016, 03:03:53 PM »
I have a 2012 People 150 with the same problem, it started a week after I have new tirs mounted at the Kymco dealer. I replace the gasket with no lasting effect, it started leaking again after about two weeks. I removed the exhaust and looked at the gasket ring and it still looked new. My fix, let the darn thing leak a little, doesn't bother me. I have 18000 klm on my unit waiting for the spring thaw.

Having a People 150 I have had trouble getting Kymco OEM parts since it was new, I found that I just call Columbia Scooters in Portland Or and within a couple days I have my "right" parts delivered to the door. The prices are OEM suggested retail but they can supply them. A member of this forum got some of us buying there when he worked for them, good luck.

Stig, if you are wanting to save money on air filters I found a company call Hiflo on the internet that sells replacement filters that appear identical color and fit both for about 30% of what I have to pay for OEM filters. Good luck.

The OEM and Shinto are the only two brands with this size available, there are some cut rate bottom of the line Chinese made tires on the market but they don't even look round,LOL

I checked my tires and they are Shinto front SR567F and the rear is a SR568R. The OEM tires were changed at 10563 klm and the rear now has 18425 klm and it is bald, the front still is pretty good. They cost about $50 each but the OEM from Kymco cost about $100 each. A couple local dealers will charge $25 per tire to install if you buy tires from them. One local Kymco wants $141 per tire installed, that with tax would be $300 a set, kind of steep in my  opinion, still looking for a less expensive place to install because they can be bought online for about $40 each tire.

I looked at the Burgman scooters and for the price difference WOW. If you can afford a Burgman just rent a friend to help you check the oil. LOL

I have a 2012 People 150 and had trouble finding the right size tires for it so I finally gave in and had the local dealer pick the best tires the correct size according to their opinion. They tried the larger size on the front but it rubbed and did not have enough clearance. The original tires lasted 10,000 klm and the replacements have 8,300 klm on them and they are showing the wear pretty well, I don't think they will last any better than the OEM tires, but, they are a smoother ride and quieter. Please post what you finally decide to buy, I will be needing tires in the spring I am sure of that. My daughter is riding my scoot right now otherwise I would go out and see what brand I actually have on it.

To change the belt on my Kymco I bought a Kawasaki 12V that plugs into a power port or you can get an adapter for battery hookup. On sale I only paid $38 from Amazon.com, it came from Smith Tools in California. I am very happy with it, might be a little big for under the seat if you have other crap under there like I do.

FYI, I am 5' 10' and weigh 315#. I have a Kymco People 150, 2012 that I have over 11,000 miles on it now. On a flat road surface I can run about 55 mph unless there is a big head wind. I don't think anyone could go wrong on getting a People 150, they are just about bullet proof.
