General Discussion / This appears to be a really good forum
« on: January 06, 2010, 04:27:52 AM »
Same as my title.  This appears to be a good forum with really good people.  I e-mailed the company the other day and told them I thought their dealer search leaves much to be desired.  I know where my local dealer is located.  But what if I were running across an unfamiliar state and had a malfunction that required warranty work?  The search requires that I enter a zip code.  Well, that is no problem.  But it only gives me dealers in that zip code.  The alternative is to list a city AND state.  It doesn't tell me the dealer closest to the city, nor does it tell me if a dealer is in that state.  It only tells me if a dealer is located in that city.  Any ideas?

JPrestonian, We were over your way today.  Drove over to Ashland to take care of some private business.  Then drove to Cave Run Lake.  All the while in the snow.  Not trecherous weather by any stretch.  We ran 50-55 back toward Charleston.  It was dark, cold and snowing on and off.  Had to have been ice on the bridges.  People flying by me at 70-80 at times.  Unreal.  I felt like an old man.  We are going to take some sailing lessons this spring at Cave Run and buy a $500 sailboat and go sailing.  Not an Optimist or any other make of small racing boat.  Just something to cruise around the lake on with a couple of rods sticking out from the side waiting for a bite.  And if nothing bites, we'll we had a good day.  The lake is about 115 miles from my house.  The neat part is we can take Route 60 the whole way.  Hey, a nice 50 mph road makes a scooter road, pretty country, pretty lake to sail on, pretty campgrounds, and then a pretty ride back home.  Have to check on dry dockage and to see if the can launch the boat as well as fees.  Boat will only be maybe 15 feet and 500 lbs.  What more could a guy want?
Axy, I have actually looked into taking a freightor to get to Europe.  I'd have to get with the right company and get a good price to haul my wife and I with two scooters, then I may take you up on that.  I think in many ways, a ride through many parts of Europe would eclipse anything found in the US.  Not so much the beauty but the people.  I saw a really funny picture in a bicycling magazine called Adventure Cyclist.  This guy was riding through Czech Republic.  He happened upon two older woman pedaling on their bicycles.  They were gathering firewood.  He, on the other hand was touring.  The look on their faces was priceless.  They were laughing at him.  I could almost read what they were saying.  This man has the intelligence of a donkeys ass.  What a silly american.   Their bikes are for utilitarian use.  The american was riding for pleasure.  This would not happen in the US unless the guy was getting mowed down by an RV or someone driving too fast.

General Discussion / Re: Scooter Hating Vandals

Don't agree with you on the people being scooter hating vandals.   Some people are ********.  Doesn't matter whether it is a nice Mustang,  a front porch window, a scooter, or even a career.  Some people are just out to ruin other people livelihoods.

St. Albans, West Virginia.  Decent town.  I don't really claim it though.  I'm from Milton, West Virginia.  A nice town as well, and I would have no problem claiming it but school consolidation tends to break down towns to where they really have no identity.  We combined with our cheif rival and thats that.  I am close to Huntington, West Virginia.  That's my town.  Home of the Marshall University Thundering Herd.  Not many scooters around here.  Really pathetic.  We have roads that are ideal for riding in town, city, country, mountains, etc.  But very few own one.  Axy, in the latest issue of Road Runner magazine their is a great article on Croatia if your interested.  Maybe RR would send you a free copy or I could mail you one.  In case you didn't know RR is a really nice touring magazine for the US.  I was reading the article the other day and told my wife I'd love to visit that part of the world.  Take about a 6-8 month tour.

People 250 / compare SYM HD200 to Kymco People S 250
« on: December 27, 2009, 12:57:09 AM »
I e-mailed my local dealer today looking for a scoot to haul my butt (255 lbs.) down the road.  I love the Buddy.  Hands down my favorite for the kind of riding I do.  But this dealer more or less convinced me that 150 cc may not bring home the bacon, and I like bacon.  I also liked the Vespa until I came to the realization that maintenance costs (such as a rear tire change) would eat up much of my savings by riding a scooter.  So I am left with the Sym HD 200 and the Kymco 250 People S.  Does anyone own both of these bikes, this allowing a direct comparison?  The SYM is less money and has less weight.  The Kymco is water cooled and has better braking.  And that is about as much as I know.  What of SYM's parts availability?  I've always heard that Kymco is the best in parts.  Does that hold true or is that just someone trying to sell a bike?  Thanks in advance for all responses.

General Discussion / overheating and parts availability

Hello, new guy here.  I was just on modernbuddy.com.  The Buddy was just taken out of the running for my bike of choice, no doubt about it.  Lots of complaining going on because the folks cannot get parts.  Sometimes something as simple as a seal or a piece of body work might take two weeks or two months.  Kinda silly.  I have heard that Kymco has a warehouse in NC and that parts are ALWAYS about two days wait.  Is this correct?  Does anyone on here have problems getting parts?  Or are the Kymco folks really that good at getting the stuff out?  Also, I have been thinking of getting a Vespa, Sym, or Kymco for some time.  I think a bike in the 200-250 cc range would be great.  Only thing about the Kymcos is that they are not water cooled until the 250 cc models.  I am a big guy of about 250.  Would the 200 be a problem?  I'm a bit paranoid about Kymco not including water cooling on this bike.  Does anyone riding a People S 200 have this problem?  Thanks for all the help and responses.  Ride safe.
