Grandvista 250 / Re: 2009 Grandvista side stand scraping
« on: February 23, 2018, 02:52:08 PM »
i took the Grandvista for a run the other day as the weather was summer like on the noth east coast.  On my ride as I was going around a left hand curve my side stand scraped the road.   I really didn't think I was leaned over that much to have that as an issue .  Has anyone else had this experience.   After parking it and looking at the side stand and the the down and up stops on the mount it looks like there is some room left where I could grind the tab so that the stand would be just a little higher while riding.  Has anyone done this or come up with another solution?  Would this modification mess up the kick stand kill switch function?
I scrape too. Are you fat like me?

Yeah - Final verdict - Tire was FUBAR - New tire installed. I'll assume all is good, I'll report back here (And insist on fix of course) if wobble still exists.

Here is my story, documenting for the net

I picked up a nail in the read tire of the scoot. It was sort of holding air though. I topped it off and drive to the closest dealer open. That dealer had tire patching capabilities, tubes and a new tire in stock and were willing to help while I waited!

I drove the scoot over, I added air 2x in the 30 mile or so ride. The scoot handled perfectly and air pressure was never below 15-20 or so.

I opted for a tire plug. The mechanic remove the nail plugged the tire and I went on my way. I got about 25 miles and the rear tire went flat, my handlebars started to wobble due to the flat (Going about 65 mph). I was less than 1/4 mile from a place with air so stopped there (versus side of the road). I added air but it wouldn't hold. Air went out almost as fast as I added it. :(

I called my daughter to come get me in my pickup truck. We loaded up the scoot and returned to the shop. They put in a tube for me while I waited. I got maybe 20 feet before noticing wobble! I returned to the shop and the mechanic felt it too. They were getting towards the end of the day. They tried checking air pressures but that wasn't the issue. He ran it up on the center stand and it seemed to me that something in the rear was out of round or not aligned correctly. They tried to add "Balancing Beads" to the tube but that didn't help.

I ended up leaving the scoot with them.

I don't know what the issue is yet. Any guesses?

My guesses
1) I Fd the rear tire when it went flat at 65mph
2) Something not assembled correctly when wheel went back on
3) I Fd the rim when the tire went flat
4) tire not balanced

Other ideas? Hopefully I get a good news call from the shop and it wont cost me more $$.

Grandvista 250 / Shocks Spring preload question
« on: March 31, 2017, 05:12:55 PM »
Okay team - My daughter's scoot is back in my garage for a while. I took it for a test ride, fun ride, the other day. I kept scraping the center stand on the right side whenever I would make a right turn. I'm a big guy. I checked the rear springs and they were set at the lowest preload setting.

The manual I have shows three positions. When I turned them it seemed like there were actually maybe 6 positions. I turned them up to the highest notch (yeah, I'm fat okay). I haven't had a chance to try that yet due to the weather turning ugly.

My question - Do some springs have more than the 3 notches shown in the manual? I assume I should be okay in the highest notch. If not, pls let me know.

I just shipped one. The manifest noted dry weight of 359lbs, 6' 9" length.

The starter button might be stuck in. Had that happen on my Motorcycle. The temporary fix for me was to pull the starter button back out after starting. The permanent fix for me was a new starter button. good luck

I had mt first opportunity to ride my DT300i, in a group ride yesterday. There were four Polaris Spyders and a Harley geezer glide. Their first question was wither or not my Kymco could keep up with them and their second question was, "what's a Kymco." Then they wanted to know where it was made and when I said in Tiwan, they said "oh a chinese scooter."
Yelp! We rode for about three hours and I was proud of my scoot's performance. I think they were impressed, as well. We rode a pretty good clip on a twistie and the DT handled very well. I look forward to being called to join them again.

My daughter joined me on a "poker run" when she was 18 she was riding her GrandVista 250. Most other rides were Harley. We all had fun an the scoot got a lot of looks.

And to add alil more .. I also brought a brand new. Street thinking that was a problem
Someone else can chime in. Mine is with my daughter and I forget. There is a specific start procedure. Safety interlocks prevent starting if not followed. Brake is one, iirc there is another. Read the manual. I'll try and ask my daughter or look it up for you.

Well - She used jumper cables that were not rusty and it started right up and continues to start normally. I think the plan at the moment will be to just ride it more! Yeah, it will be dead maybe when she gets home from Christmas but a quick jump and a pleasure ride and she will be charged up again.

She should take the battery out and keep it on a Tender inside her apartment.

Refresh my memory - Does the whole under seat bucket and seat need to come off to get the battery out or can you get it out through the little access door? As I recall its pretty tight through that opening.
